I haven't cry laughed this hard since...
Forever. Ledgerbound is a sexy, risqué, and insanely funny and hilariously well-done narrative. Talk to your team, romance them, flirt, upgrade, gear them up, and do everything you can to stop the hero party, who died in battle against enemy intruders, from being able to claim their insurance by making it seem like it was their fault in the first placs so the elders and shareholders don't run off with their investments? Absurd! But so real and grounded in reality. Seriously, five hours straight in one sitting, glued to my seat, holding my sides, while also getting thrown into some intense battles that fit the Fire Emblem niche? Yes, pulease! Dispatch? Pff, suck my f...d... dude! Step aside for something really great with actual choice/deviation. You'll have to manage your time, and by that I mean rest, chat, gear up, and complete objectives, all of which eat away at your limited hours as you try to form a good team during your down time before battle. The story unfolds in a fully automated, mostly hands-off way, playing out seamlessly as you make your choices and fight. On top of that!? Tutorials that are actually interesting to engage with and explain things way better than most games do!? An EULA that is more of an abridged silly side thing, that makes you want to let them use your gameplay data for their uses!? Sign me up. First EULA I ever bothered to read and didn’t regret it. Most people will complain about the time management system. It's a part of the lore/story. Don't like it, turn on baby mode. Easy. PS: Jazz is a keeper. This game had me out of breath laughing at times. Only thing i dislike was the how they handled the swag. It felt like i was actively being punished for choosing to talk to everyone rather than equip the party. Otherwise its good stuff. 9/10
I love this game, the characters are delightful and the romance isn't afraid to go to weird places. The combat is challenging but dosn't feel like your constantly struggling. I personally don't mind the fact that depending on how you do, you could miss out on items in the map or lose time so you miss out on conversations with your party members but if you're the type of person who needs to get everything first playthrough or if your not a fan of not being able to reload a save to fix mistakes then this game isn't for you which is fair but I love it, it adds a nice bit of stress and tension to deciding what to do. The game does still have a few bugs to work out and some QoL like changing keybindings etc would be a big plus and will hopefully be fixed later. This game won't be for everyone but for someone who likes Fire emblem style combat, weird and interesting characters/romance, is okay with missing out on things and likes having to play with your mistakes then this is great.
I've only played for 3 hours, but when the humor of a game gets you reading the terms of service for funny haha jokes you know you have something special.
Cannot express enough how cathartic this game is as an office worker who loves fantasy stories
Game is very gay, 10/10
It is a good game but with some serious caveats. It seems to be of decent size, I haven't finished it yet, but there seems to be plenty of battles. I am playing on Medium difficulty. Theres a serious STRESS level for your protagonist. Every intermission scene you MUST spend time doing things to lower that right down, if you dont, you are heavily penalised in battles. no manual save, so that battle you just failed because you didn't fully realise what equipment did or didn't meet your expectations, you are screwed, you cant go back and change your gear. This is really infuriating, I thought i would try giving a new item that can make the person move 3 spaces for free, ONCE, but I cant save all 3 Hostages, so maybe if I give it to a healer instead...NOPE, you are locked out of changing your equipment once a battle starts. Its a really massive annoying headache. Theres also a really serious time unit cost to equipping items. Theres also a really annoying NOT ENOUGH LITIGATION!!! message when your just clicking on items to see what they do in your inventory rather than trying to equip them. Theres also some missions its impossible to get 3 out of 3 stars. I forget which, but the battle to save 3 Flame Casters. I noticed this was just changed from 4 (!!!!) but its not just healing them within the 1st 2 turns which is VERY difficult, you then have to make sure they stay alive, but u don't control them, so they just blindly go into fighting enemies and die straight away. Within turn 2 the enemy kills almost all of them, never-mind just barely being able to heal them. Its a farce. Also, some of the timed missions to get a star are also almost impossible. Now you can re-do these battles to go back and get that star or 2 that you missed, but.... they cost valuable stress points and ALSO the spare time units. Also, as it wasn't explained well enough, I thought the more tickets you got and saved the better the equipment, but it is and it isn't. You don't need to save them, just spend them when you get them from the Star rewards from the battles. Also many MANY items you can equip hardly get an explanation, theres never any range information - can i use this at range 4,3,2 spaces or can I only do it to adjacement enemies/team. There are many examples of this and just weak clues on what they do, and of course theres no guide yet to tell you because this is a new game. Also, though the writing is charming and funny, though quite dirty, you cannot skip it easily, you have to keep clicking your mouse, and some scenes are so large it can take almost 10 minutes of non-stop clicking. Thanks to some badgering the Devs did relent and let you restart battles incase you make 1 mistake or let someone you thought was impervious to hits die, even though they have 150+ dodge (yeah i dont get it either how its calculated - I put items on JOY and got her dodge up to a whopping 130, I then gave her an item which for 1 round makes all enemies attack her but she gets an additional 50 dodge.... everytime I tried this she never dodged a hit and was dead in either 1 or 2 hits from the enemies). So that is one good thing, you can restart, but the game forces you to quit, load it up, go to settings, go to game and then click "♥♥♥♥♥♥ battle" - Devs didnt even like doing this though and are really angry at having to do this for the players who kept requesting it. Bit weird of Devs to be like that. Now when it comes down to strategy, do you play defensive or offensive? is that your usual play style? - As the Rock said - "IT DOESNT MATTER!" - almost every battle you have to do the exact route and moves, so its more like a puzzle, sure you can play defensive or offensive but you will never ever make the cut to get those valuable tickets for better equipment. There are many items, and so it would be nice to try out these items, but the time cost to equip them is heavy, and combined with the fact theres not enough information on what they do with there special abilities - get 10 extra dodge if you are fighting someone illiterate, get 20 extra armor if you are adjacement to an ally who pays taxes. So yes, an enticing game but massively punishing, which is apt considering theres a vast amoutn of pages of dialogue banging on about bondage and SUB/DOM stuff I really dont care about. Purchase at your own peril.
Played with one hand certified 10/10 With that out of the way, the game is really vulgar, and its quite frankly the best part about it. the turn-based combat is simple and easy to get ahold of. But of course the meat of the game is the dialog which is top tier in my opinion. As of the writing of this review i don't have any issues with the way the game plays on my pc nor my Steamdeck. But again the game is vulgar, so if you are a bit squeemish about that type of dialog then you may want to give it a pass... and if not insta-buy.
This is a very character-driven game and, luckily, the characters are all lovable in their own ways. They have on-point voice acting, show growth during their story, and grew on me quickly. Combat was on the easier side (I played on Lunar Insurance), and because of this, I never had any issues with the "Stress" mechanic of the game. Not being able to save manually was very refreshing as I tend to "save scum", it forced me to think about my choices narratively and within combat. While I really wish I had more time with the Ledgerbound characters, the game has a tight story, so timewise it was in that sweet spot of not overstaying its welcome.
100% would recommend if you like SRPGS!! The gameplay is challenging and fun, the characters are so charming and unique, and the story is a blast from start to finish. The team put so much love and care into this game and I can't wait to see how Rayna's story ends!!
