I bought this game a while ago when I was on a big point and click binge but just recently got around to playing it and oh my god. I love the approach to the detective point and click style. I always love puzzles, but I liked that this one focuses more on the dialogue and investigation of your surroundings. I grew to like Miles, as dumb as he can be
(JUST TALK TO YOUR WIFE OH MY GOD DUDE)
, and I really liked Bill's character and his commentary. Performance wise, it ran great. I frequently switch monitors between my regular 24inch and my 55in TV and the graphics scaled nicely between the two. I will say that I got stuck on one case because of certain dialogue options (I love to exhaust all dialogue in every game I play), so that was annoying. I'm not a frequent saver, so I had to restart one or two cases (SAVE OFTEN). And in case 5 I came across a bug - to avoid spoilers I'll just say talk to people before investigating. I got stuck in a hard lock investigating first before talking to one of the NPCs. But other than that, I enjoyed the narrative, the art style, and how everything ties together. The end definitely left me feeling some type of way. Definitely recommend if you don't mind a game with a focus on dialogue and not many puzzles.
Nice story. Great voice acting. 90s point and click detective game style. There are some choices while solving cases. No puzzles. You can feel there is a world - cases are connected a little bit, you read about cases in newspaper. I really liked it. I am not a fun of pixel art but I liked this one.
High quality game. Focuses more on story than puzzles. Excellent word building an voice acting.
Neat little who-dun-it, story is well written. not really your classic adventure game, more of an interactive story. it has a few dead ends if you're not paying attention and following all the leads. some of your actions have some effect on the narrative. Was a good story, gameplay is approximately 8-10 hours, none of the puzzle are illogical or difficult,
I get that the visuals are trying to be retro but you can have this art style without having the movements as clunky as this. Dialog is trying just a little too hard to be funny or add flair to a character, which feels cringe and also slows down the pace of the game too much for me.
A wonderful surprise! It's smooth and super entertaining. The fact that everything is a possibility with a different outcome gives the game tons of flavor, my first run was a complete disaster and I immediately started a new one, revisiting everything and hoping for a better outcome. And I still want to know what would happen if I made different choices now that I got both the very very bad ending and a perfect run. I'll definitely return to Lamplight City to search for alternate timelines.
I enjoy mystery games, and the world-building in this one is enjoyable. There are a few too many ways to soft-lock yourself out of solving cases, so I had to restart from scratch more often than I'd have wished to. The cases do, however, more or less proceed on rails, and given the nature of your relationship with the main character's wife, I wish there had been more freedom of choice about "go to the bar" or "don't go to the bar," etc. Still, an enjoyable game, worth picking up on sale.
