About

Korea. IL-2 Series takes you to a pivotal moment in aviation history—a time when jet engines changed the skies forever. During the Korean War, the piston-engine aircraft of a bygone era clashed with the first jet fighters.
For the first time in the series, gamepads are supported in addition to joysticks and HOTAS control systems.
With a massive combat map, authentically recreated aircraft, and a well-crafted balance between simulation and accessibility, every dogfight is brought to life.
Become an ace, fight in legendary machines, or aim even higher and become a regiment’s commander. Lead squadrons, plot routes across the combat map, and issue orders to turn the tide of history. In the skies of Korea, you can be anyone: from a rank-and-file pilot to a strategist shaping the outcome of the campaign.
For the first time in the IL-2 series, full controller support has been implemented.

The aircraft of the Korean War have been recreated based on actual blueprints, historical photographs, flight manuals, and other archival materials. There are eight* aircraft at your disposal.
*Please note La‑11 and F‑84E Thunderjet are available in the Premium and Deluxe editions, or as a separate DLC.

Every instrument in the cockpit is fully functional and reflects the state of the aircraft’s systems in real time. You will be aiming and firing just as pilots did 75 years ago.

The game takes place on the largest map in the series' history, covering an area of over 200,000 square kilometers. The Korean Peninsula has been recreated based on historical maps and documents from the 1950s. All significant historical landscape changes have been accounted for, including reclaimed coastal areas and shoreline changes.
The map features dozens of airbases with historically accurate layouts, hundreds of settlements, and strategic objectives such as ports, dams, and transport hubs.

The Home by Christmas campaign tells the story of Captain Jack Russell, who in 1950 secures a transfer to a combat unit fighting in the Korean War to fulfill his dream of becoming a jet ace.
You will fly 15 historically accurate combat missions, recreated from the combat logs of the 8th Fighter-Bomber Wing and the memoirs of its pilots.
The campaign reflects unique challenges of the war's early months: jet aircraft could not operate from small forward airstrips, so some pilots had to temporarily return to piston-engined machines. Over the course of the campaign, you will fly both the F-51 Mustang and the F-80 Shooting Star jet.

In Career mode, you will act as an air regiment commander, managing personnel and overseeing aviation logistics.
It is up to you to decide whether to take to the skies or focus on strategic tasks. As a regiment commander, you will maintain combat readiness, plan operations, and reinforce your units.

Korea features a highly detailed damage model for both aviation and ground objects. Aircraft, including strategic bombers, as well as ground vehicles, trains, and ships, receive damage corresponding to the nature of the hits sustained.
Every object reacts realistically to collisions, crashes, and combat damage, taking into account mass, speed, and the point of impact, directly affecting the behavior of the vehicle and the outcome of the battle.

In this new mode, you can examine each aircraft, ground vehicle, and naval vessel in detail. Explore the models, learn about their development and combat history, inspect aircraft cockpits, and compare technical specs, including detailed performance charts.
Your own personal museum, open anytime—a true treasure for anyone passionate about aviation and military history.

For the first time in the series, you can leave the cockpit and walk around the airfield where your regiment is based.
Animations of the people—pilots, soldiers, and civilians—were created using motion capture (MOCAP) technology, ensuring natural and lifelike movement.
Full VR support via OpenXR and OpenVR.
Accessibility: The game features detailed systems management, but there’s no need to memorize engine start-up sequences—you can take off and engage immediately.
Hardware support: From controllers to desktop joysticks and professional HOTAS systems.

This is a fantastic evolution of the series! I have been playing IL2 for about a decade at this point, and in many ways this feels like a next generation jump. Lots of quality of life features with the mission editor make setting up free flights more intuitive. The aircraft models are fabulously detailed. I also love the addition of the gun camera pov. As with previous iterations, it is not a simulator in the sense that DCS world is. But the flight models are good, and the gameplay is in no way arcadey. It combines the good controls and flight of a simulator without getting too in the weeds with the aircraft systems.
Thought i would give it a try instead of purchasing another DCS map. Went through all the setup etc just to find one server that did not show 0 people with only 13 players online? Yeah ill give it a hot minute....

I have been enjoying the revamped career mode a lot so far. The ability to pick your own missions is great and removes the inconvenience of being forced into mission types you don't enjoy. The new realistic portraits and matching (and remarkably believable) pilot names adds character to your squadron. I find myself caring about them more than in previous titles, and losing them can hurt. The management aspect is there if you want it, but can be largely automatized if you can't be bothered. In terms of quality of life, the addition of fast travel to certain waypoints is an absolute life saver. I missed this feature so much from earlier titles. Being an adult and having less and less time for gaming made it so frustratingly time consuming to sit through an entire mission. Now I can finally play multiple missions in one session. Please devs, if you see this. I beg you, if possible at all, add this feature to the Great Battles series too! I don't think I can go back now I am accustomed to this feature. From a technical standpoint. Game runs fine for me on a pretty average rig. I do get a weird red pop up in the top right corner saying I don't have enough video memory which is weird? Don't know what causes it or how to remove it. Kind of annoying. And lastly, the soundtrack! It is epic and starts playing at exactly the right movements. It's like being in a movie. All in all very happy with the game so far, despite the STEEP (and I mean STEEP) price. I also don't know how I feel about planes being locked behind a paywall on release day... but oh well.
Excellent new theater of operations and great overall improvements over Sturmovik. Haven't touched DCS since getting this. I use exclusively VR (Varjo Aero) and with a 4090 the immersion and performance are outstanding! Highly recommend. Yes expensive but seems in line with current AAA titles and replay is endless with career mode and an actual dynamic campaign. Yes the AI could use some work, but for a non expert like myself it is already challenging as is. For your squad be sure and setup and use the command menu to direct squad activities and you will see wingmen engage appropriately. If you liked Sturmovik this is a no brainer buy now purchase!
Trop cher et mal optimisé VR. L'optimisation de ce jeu aurait pu être géniale mais pour le coup c'est légèrement laggy sur une RTX 5070ti avec un Quest 3. Clairement pour le moment BOF BOF
Where do I start? From the engine sounds, to the real world like touch to the game. I thought this would be just another flight sim... Not a real world experience. The F-86 and F-84E are detailed EXTREMELY well. The price of the game is fully reasonable, the map is massive and beautifully crafted. There are bugs, but it just launched lol
Amazing ! Just amazing !
maybe a 7/10 for me right now as some parts like planes, sound and setting are great but such things like AI and mainly optimization is a long road to improve. Not disappointed that I bought it, just think a few solid updates could make a huge difference
