I love Rise of Flight, or at least the original version. However, since becoming Free to Play and also changing ownership (before it came to Steam) virtually all of the missions I attempt to run, I get the message ''Plane not in your account''. I purchased every DLC available for this game when they were released. I think they were 10% off, paying over £130 for them, assuming it would unlock all of or at least a significant number of WWI planes that the game stated were available. However, after several attempts at playing different scenarios, both via the Quick Mission, Mission and Campaigns buttons, every time I tried to play, it said I don't have the necessary plane to complete the mission, so would give up. When buying the DLC I stupidly assumed I’d get all of the planes required to play all or most of the missions available or at least paying for the required plane using in game currency earned from winning missions. However, that’s not the case. When starting a mission I so far have always got the 'plane not in your account' message. So, when clicking on buy plane it redirects you to the Rise of Flight Web site and you have to fork out more money for the plane you require to play the mission. The plane I needed for the mission I’d selected was $5.99 or $8.98 with modification. That doesn't sound a lot, but that's just one plane for one mission from a hangar with over 35 other planes. (The game description quotes 40 planes) I originally bought the game as a standalone when it was released on Direct to Drive in 2009 for approximately £30, but I also did βeta testing for free on the game prior to it's release and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I had issues playing the stand alone version following the closure of Direct to Drive. Then I got it via Steam; however, I can’t remember whether it was paid for at the time of release on Steam or released immediately as a Free to Play game with DLC? I think it must have been the latter as I did get the complete set of DLC that, as already mentioned, cost me a small fortune. Sadly, the original developers were bought out by 777 Studios and I believe that’s where the game was nerfed so that they could sell the planes separately that were originally part of the original release when I bought it via Direct to Drive. I realise that the gaming industry were going through a bad patch back in 2008/9 due to the financial crisis and many smaller developers went out of business and the price of games dropped dramatically, for example a $19.99 arcade game dropped to around $6 and AAA games prices remained static for years. I believe the crisis was the reason for the advent of DLC for many of the AAA games we now see as they needed to boost their profits. Back in the early noughties, we didn’t get DLC’s, we got expansion packs that were a lot better value and often added a significant amount of extra’s to a game. So, despite having loved this game previously, I can no longer play it without forking out more money for individual planes so can only give it a thumbs down as I think it’s become one of those dreaded cash cows like the Train Sims and Flight Sims that have thousands of pounds worth of DLC added to the base game. Whether there’s a way to use any plane for any mission I’ve not discovered, so would welcome any feedback from those who love the game, especially if this is possible as I would still love to play this game, but will not spend any more money on a game that has ultimately cost me approaching £200 when I take account of all of the DLC and the original purchase from Direct to Drive.

Dont get this game. So the game on its own is a good game but you only get 3 planes and if you want to do most of the stuff the game advertised like bombing or recon you need to buy a dlc so the game isnt free as over half of the games is locked behind a pay wall.
This game is so unbelievably bad. what do you mean I don't own a single plane?! What do you mean I can't play anything without money and that the "free version" is an 8GB black hole on my pc that does nothing?!
I'm sure the game would be fun if I could even create an account I didn't receive the confirmation code and when I tried contacting support I didn't hear back I got it for free but still I would've liked to try it out
