Not much to say about this since the best was the image from the storepage, so recommend you to save your money and look for something else instead ;) the game is very bad balanced and tower placement are really messed up! as if they just was smashed down quickly right after they completed most of level design + many times towers wont fire at enemies when they are in range & each time you restart a map and build the same it's not same result you get each time = messed up somehow (should be in early access if you ask me) edit: This comes from a real TD player and not some casual pleb "there screams OMFG Kittens then its good no matter what... (you're welcome to hate me for not having same opinion) But there are no way in world that i can recommend this game (unless) you are looking for a bad experience
This is a cute little tower defense game, that I really REALLY wish I could actually recommend, but sadly, a number of things prevent me from doing so. - Several of the towers feel downright useless, like the minelayer. It has a really slow rate of fire, and the mines barely do any damage until it's been upgraded at least twice, and even then they don't have much of an effect other than having them be able to be lit on fire, freeze, or be coated in acid that doesn't seem to do much in the way of damage. - Many turrets seem to prefer looking at the scenery rather than go "huh, something's about to get into my firing arc, I should shoot it!" and kitties will make it past things like chainguns without them even firing a single bullet sometimes. This is rather aggravating to say the least. - Very few areas to put a turret that doesn't have a severely impeded firing arc. This wouldn't be much of an issue if it wasn't for the tourist-like behaviour turrets do, as mentioned earlier. - Turrets sound pretty much the same from base level, receiving just a slight tweak when you upgrade them to the second level. Level four turrets sound just the same as level two ones. - Turret sounds cut in and out depending on where you are. - No way of reversing y-axis on mouselook.... - No easy way to change difficulty. Unlike pretty much every other game of the genre out there, you have to completely NUKE YOUR CURRENT CAMPAIGN to change difficulty. - Achievements do not trigger properly, or worse, have a poorly written description. Make it Rain will only trigger if you build the more EXPENSIVE rapid launcher path (it should say which path you need to build, not just "fully upgraded rapid launcher"), and on top of that you need to build a seventh rapid turret along the same arc before it will finally go "oh hey, that's more than five" - Somehow, despite having just missile launchers and Blobcelerators for several rounds, I never did get the Skeet Shooter achievement, which makes me wonder what ACTUALLY triggers it - It sure isn't the "hit a kitty in the air with a missile 10 times during the lifetime of playing". - If you want the difficulty achievements, you're forced into nuking your campaign at least twice, because unlike most games, completing on Normal doesn't also award Easy. - For some reason, there is no discounted purchase if you want to get the VR version of this game, you have to pay full price. What a GREAT way to coax people into playing the game in a way that would be more immersive as headset prices go down, and more options come to the market (included ones with better displays) It was a fun game, but yeah, those issues are rather glaring to say the least. Pick it up when it's on sale, don't bother if it's full price.
A simple yet fun TD game. While the price seems a little steep for what it is, the graphics are solid and the game play can be challenging. I made it through the Normal (difficulty setting 2 of 3) campaign with only having to redo a few maps no more than 3-4 attempts before beating all 15 levels in the campaign. Since then I've now been trying it on the Hard (3 of 3 difficulty) setting and it isn't kidding. Once I got to levels 5-6 I've had to spend a good chunk of time trying to figure out the perfect combination of weapon types and placements to barely beat the levels. Figured for my last play through I'm going to attempt to get all the side objectives completed so I can achieve a perfect playthrough run. I'm going to attempt this on Normal since Hard is too hard to win with minimal weapons/slots used (at least for me). This is my guilty pleasure game for the time being. I can sit and watch tv while playing this at the same time to pass by the hours. **update 3/28/17** I found a hiddenish level when I went into "Skirmish". It was pure chaos and I would always fall apart in the 30th round. Finally overcame it though. Game now beat on every difficulty and every map. #GG Pros: -great graphics -challenging if you want it to be -blasting away wave after wave of cute fuzzy kittens cons: -wish they'd add more levels so there wasn't just 16. -I would love to have manual turret control. Sometimes the ones you assume would get gunned down seem to just stroll right on by and never get acknowledged. -there's a weird turret moment where the Gattling just pauses for a moment if a kitten they're shooting at makes it into the checkpoint. And if you're under heavy a seige a pause for even a second can end you. 9/10 (hoping they add more levels)
Some Achievements are bugged but the Developers abandoned the game after launch and in it's current state of "rock paper scissors" tower defense the game feels empty and soulless. Unlocked towers have no effect on replayed missions so the game doesn't ease up no matter how long you play it for and although there are good graphics and super cute kittehs (good for cat people), this game is bad for completionists. Could've been so much...but wasn't. 2/10 - Abandoned by the developer
As a big fan of TD games, growing up playing lots of web-based ones, as well as some on Steam like the Kindom Rush series, Sanctum 2, and a few others, this game was a bit of a let down for me. The only pros are the decent graphics, cats, and tower tree upgrades. Let's start with the cons: -Certain platforms (the places you build towers) are affected by height and terrain, meaning if you don't select the exact tower that belongs there, the others are useless. They'll just sit there, not firing at anything. -There's an option to advance waves immediately, with 0 benefit. No extra gold or anything, just pushes more enemies on you. -Spend less than $10,000 on the second level (20 waves) to get gold medals? Really? When towers cost 500+ each and upgrades are 1-2k each? Is that even possible? -Game only plays at a 1x speed. If your towers are decimating the cats, you just idle. -Very little if any replayability. The goals for gold medals on levels are pointless, they don't benefit you whatsoever besides maybe Steam achievements. And as mentioned above the requirements for said goals are stupid. -AI voice is annoying and talks too much. Game would sound a lot better if it was an actual voice actor instead of something that sounds like Stephen Hawking's speech computer. I bought this game in a trade from a friend, and I'm really disappointed. I wish I could refund it.
THIS GAME... OMG THIS GAME!! If you own a pair of VR glasses then it is this game you get the best out of the game. graphics are great and the small details make the game even better. The price is ridiculously low compared to the quality! Its the same for Ungoggled :D #Kill The kittens! :D
Overview
A solid and amusing tower defence game which provides some entertainment but in the end fails to deliver anything spectacular to allow it to rise of the countless other TD titles out there. Also the developers releasing this game for both VR and none VR as seperate games is kinda shady and will no doubt anger some people who own this version and get a VR headset in the future, but that off course doesn't effect the game quality. All in all, not a bad game but there's better alternatives out there for tower defence fans.
Pro's and con's
+ The graphics are quite good for this type of game + The higher difficulties offer some some real challenge + Kitties are cute - Having to murder kitties - The campaign is pretty short - The campaign tries to tell a story but your story objectives don't get reflected in the actual missions - Not much tower variety
Overall Score
6/10
This was a fun, and adorable tower defense game. The graphics were pretty, I spent some time just looking at the map or background. The cats were soo delightful that, at times, I felt bad killing them (loved all the different variations of them). This game can definitely get frustrating if you get stuck on a level and can't seem to get past it, and there seems to be no guide at all online. I was only able to find one youtuber who did a whole play through of the game (Skye Storme). They helped me out bigtime so Thank you if you happen to read this! But overall, a good tower defense game, these games are almost always enjoyable.
Kittypocalypse is a VR centric tower defense game rendered in 3D and with an unusual comedy premise, the waves of enemies you have to fight off are space cats. The premise is kind of amusing but they don't go anywhere with it. It's almost like a co-incidence that the enemies are cats rather than any story centric purpose, so that's a wasted opportunity. This does work as a game, however, more or less. 4K resolution support, a few graphics tweaks, a reasonable looking engine and decent enough art assets. Kittypocalypse is certainly not the worst TD on Steam, to the point it's almost, but not quite, recommendable. What broke the deal for me was the lack of polish, especially with crucial aspects of the gameplay. The towers are buggy, and they sometimes completely ignore cats running by them, opting to sit still and not shoot at all, instead. I think if there's one thing that a TD game must get right, it's going to have to be "having the towers shoot the baddies". There's no "maybe" options in Steam, but Kittypocalypse deserves one. It's not bad, but it's not great either and the $10 USD price tag coupled with the deficiencies pushes this just millimetres out of reach of a thumbs up.
Super fun tower defense game! I love it! Have been waiting for this port to non-vr because although I have played games in VR, I'd like to sit back and relax and smoke a cigar while playing tower defense. The camera needs to be addressed though. Here is my suggestion: At the beginning of the level (before starting), move the camera smoothly from [the default starting position right now] to a nice overview position in the level, where you can see all the tower-points and the path. This will give the user the nice starting view (like in VR), but its nice if you dont have to manually move the cam to get some overview. At the completion of the level (after ending), move the camera automatically smoothly from [where-ever the player left it] to a nice position where you can see the level and the fireworks. So the player can enjoy his/her victory even more, without having to manually move the cam to see the fireworks.
