Zombie cows. What mooooooooooooooooooooore could you want?

I went vegan not for ethics but sheer terror — these cows outsmarted me and formed a union. Every click feels like Shakespeare with horns and zero mercy.

The Culling Of The Cows is a deliberately strange and tongue-in-cheek indie action game that embraces absurdity as its defining trait. Developed and published by DL Softworks, the game places players in the boots of a lone farmer defending his land against waves of mutated livestock and other bizarre threats. The premise is intentionally over-the-top, leaning into dark humor and exaggerated violence rather than realism or subtle storytelling. From the outset, it makes it clear that it exists to provide chaotic, arcade-style entertainment rather than a serious narrative experience. Gameplay revolves around side-scrolling combat combined with light strategic elements. Enemies approach in waves, steadily increasing in number and variety as levels progress, and the player must rely on quick reflexes and smart resource management to survive. Shooting is the core mechanic, with players wielding firearms to thin out advancing enemies before they overwhelm the base. Between waves, resources earned from defeating enemies can be spent on upgrades, giving players some control over how their offensive and defensive capabilities evolve. While these systems are simple, they add a layer of decision-making that prevents the experience from becoming purely mindless shooting. Progression is structured across dozens of levels, each introducing new enemy types or slightly altered challenges. Early stages serve as a gentle introduction, but later encounters can become surprisingly tense as faster or tougher enemies push players to react quickly and prioritize threats. The challenge lies less in complex mechanics and more in endurance and consistency, as players must maintain focus through increasingly hectic waves. Optional objectives and difficulty spikes help add variety, though the core loop remains largely unchanged throughout the game. The visual style supports the game’s irreverent tone, using colorful, cartoon-like graphics that emphasize clarity and exaggerated animations over detail. Mutated cows, strange creatures, and occasional unexpected enemies are designed to be instantly readable on screen, which is crucial during chaotic moments. Backgrounds are relatively simple and reused, but they serve their purpose by keeping attention on the action. Sound effects and audio cues reinforce the arcade feel, contributing to the fast-paced rhythm of combat without overwhelming the player. While The Culling Of The Cows succeeds as a quick and accessible action game, its simplicity can also be its biggest drawback. The repetitive nature of the gameplay loop may wear thin during longer sessions, and players looking for deeper mechanics or evolving strategies may find the experience limited. The humor, which is intentionally crude and absurd, will resonate strongly with some players and miss the mark for others, making enjoyment heavily dependent on personal taste. Overall, The Culling Of The Cows delivers exactly what it promises: a chaotic, lighthearted shooter built around a bizarre concept and straightforward mechanics. It works best in short bursts, offering an easy-to-learn experience that rewards quick reactions and casual play. While it lacks the depth or polish of more ambitious titles, it stands as a quirky indie project that embraces its identity fully, providing fast, silly entertainment for players who appreciate retro-inspired action and offbeat humor. Rating: 7/10
Oh la vache comment c'est nul !
