NOTE (added Dec 28, 2016): At the time that I did these reviews, the price tag for this game was $12.99 USD. The developer abandoned this game long ago, but just reduced to price to $1.99 to try and squeeze out every penny he can from this trash. Sad but true. Avoid at all costs. I re-reviewed this game on March 30, 2015, over ten weeks after my first review made this game look so bad that the developer immediately filed a copyright claim against me on Youtube.. Just to get the video removed ASAP!! So.. how much has this game improved in the past ten weeks? There is nothing new, it's the exact same bugs, problems, glitches, and nearly ZERO content as back in January when I last played it. I've made a Pro and Con list for you to look at, and despite the developer saying he's made updates since I last played it, it's still a horrid, boring mess. Here's a big clue.. When you watch the preview trailer above, it looks pretty impressive. However, any time you see a preview trailer showing fly-throughs over his terrain rather then actual true gameplay, it's likely for a good reason.. because the developer is embarrased to show you the actual horrid looking combat, animations, and true gameplay. Also at this time, there are 10 reviews. Only mine is negative. The developer is filing copyright claims on anyone on youtube showing the actual gameplay, hmmm. A developer willing to file copyright claims of people showing actual gameplay is obviously dishonest. So, I would bet money that just about every single "positive review" here was given a free copy of this game in exchange for a thumbs up review. - Just sayin' Pros: - Decent graphics for the world and buildings, especially the trees. Cons: - Way over-priced for what you get, even if the game is on sale for $3 USD - Combat is bland, boring, uninspired, and nothing more the mashing your mouse button. - Tons of gliches, bugs, and weirdness (game-breaking) - Nothing to do as almost every building is either empty or closed up with no entrance - Quests are kill a bear or bandit or find 10 coins, of which two of the quests are still broken - Besides killing the same bland, boring and horrid-awful looking bandits over and over and over, there is absolutely nothing to do. - Even if I missed certain mobs somehow, there is no way in hell that I care to actually play this game long enough to figure out how to find them 'nor do I want to fight them with this games clunky, lame, and broken fighting mechanics. Bleh. - Potions cannot be moved to your hotbar - No skills. No leveling up. No upgrades to character. No special attacks. No nothing except mashing your mouse buttons. - No loot drops found. - Character goes invisible and cannot be seen. (yes, even in 3rd person view) - Jumping is ragged and hangs in the air and makes you look and feel like a lame tard. - No lore, no history, no purpose set at the beginning, nothing to tell you why you are there, what your goal is, or why you are even playing this game - Just nothing fun to do anywhere. No chests to open. No crates to smash. No animals seen running around. No wind blowing the grass. It's just boring and bland and the only thing this game screams at you is "UNINSTALL ME NOW!" * This game is easily one of the absolute worst and most boring games I've ever played. My rating: 5% of out 100 You can watch the video I made back in Januray about this developer filing a copyright claim against my first review to get it removed from all eyes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsLigk60oYk&feature=youtu.be
I never see any updates and never get a response from the developers. I will be happy to change this review if I get any kind of answer. I am so sorry I never returned this game. It is very unfinished, not much going on which is a shame because it looked like it really had potential. Live and learn I guess, do not make my mistake.
I know, not long in the game and writing a review ... how very dare I. I dare because I bought this on 01/01/2015. It is now 27/01/2017 and development has gone nowhere. The devs are nowhere to be seen, the forums are dead, the facebook page is dead and we've had no updates. 2 years and this hasn't gone anywhere. Please, i'm begging you, do not buy this. There isn't enough content to justify your £1.59 nevermind the £14 I paid for it. I held on because I love RPG's. Even if it wasn't going to be amazing it would still be another RPG to play through but no, there is barely anything to play.
It is games like this that keep people away from supporting early release projects. Last game update was back in Febuary 2015 this is late December 2015. In October 2015 the developers promissed an update in November.......that never happend. My guess is they took what money they did make, scrapped the project and ran. This game is no where near complete, do not waist your money on the hopes that one day it may be complete, this is a broken, unfinished and abandoned game.
Never see any updates. Bad..forgotten game.
There is little to no updates on this game. The game is full of bugs and pretty much unplayable sure you can walk around and collect coins but its not worth the money I paid for this game.
Dead Development. Do Not Buy. Game has very little to do otherwise.
I remember when Journey of the King first come out on Steam, back in the 2014. To be honest, there wasn't much stuff you could do in game - not many locations, enemies, quests and other stuff. In very short time I have come to know every place in this game, together with tons of bugs, errors or misplaced textures (or something like that). Still, for some reason, I enjoyed playing it. Every little update was fun. It's probably only one time I really did enjoy following some game in Early Access. After more than 2 years, sadly, not much changed. I mean, this game still looks like have really, really much things to do before final release. If, of course, that will happen one day but it looks like it won't - Dev doesn't even bother to change stuff said in Early Access questions. "We expect Journey of the King to be completed by August 2015." and here we are, in the 2017. I remember when people were getting paid for testing games. I remember when alpha/beta versions were avaible for free tests. And now we are living in times where WE PAY for unfinished games, for something that there is no guarantee to be even finished. It's probably not the first, and for sure not the last one, game that is abandoned. Stay away from Journey of the King. Even with that price tag (1.99 euro here) it's not worth buying. I mean sure, nobody will stop you from doing that, but you must know that it will be just waste of your money. Look around for some other games, there are lot of better and FINISHED games on Steam.
Was hoping the game would have been great the idea sounded good but overall the company flopped and the game failed. Such a shame i had faith in this company
Do not buy! Yet another dead EA game. One developer made his profil private and the other one is online regularly. Instead of continuing the development of the game the prefer to entertain themselves playing other games. And instead of pulling this crap from the Steam Store, they only lowered the price hoping to fool more people to buy the game.
