Air Combat Arena is a game a friend sent my way to try out. Essentially, it's a dogfighter sim, although there is also a mini game mode where you fly around in a bi-plane collecting planets. First off: you WILL be playing against bots. There are zero active servers, which makes sense since today's peak amount of players was one (me) with four all time peak players. So, as far as things go, this isn't actually a bad dogfighter. The controls are a bit wonky, and inverted for some reason, which makes them even seem a bit looser, but all in all it controls well. This would be far more fun with friends I think however, as bot fights lost their charm quickly. The little mini game I mentioned is very relaxing, with a looped chill EDM track playing. The graphics are decent for what this game presents. The battle map is fairly bland, but I feel this works for the minimalist nature of the game. The mini game features some far more interesting and trippy visuals IMO. Outside of that EDM track, I can't think of anything else from an audio standpoint outside of the sounds of battle, which are much like the graphics. Also, the achievements seem to be broken. I've definitely shot down planes while trying this game out. All in all, I was skeptical of the mostly positive rating going in, and I'm honestly a bit on the fence here myself. On one hand, it is a decent game. On the other hand, it gets boring quickly without the inclusion of real multiplayer due to a lack of player base (which is odd since I know with the current bundle it's in, there are at least a few hundred if not thousands of owners. I'm giving it a flat 5/10 and a thumbs up for now, but there really isn't much here w/o said MP battles.
Slightly iffy controls, but plenty of fun for a one dollar arcade plane fight title. Air Combat's visuals and sound design are a little dated, but full bot support with decently competent AI make up for the shortcomings. While this game has been utterly dead online since long before I bought it, the developers made all three achievements unlockable when playing versus bots only...something I wish more companies would do. Bonus points for a hidden game mode that's actually fun. Easy recommend.
Nice little dogfighter simulation you can play also with 6 bots for the achievements. Powerup / missiles and different plane models are included.
such an horrible game...not even for the terrible graphics..the gameplay!ok if it's a budget game nobody expects much, but oof, this was a pain to play. Not mentioning that sometimes the enemy planes would disappear for no reason in the first phase of the round. Stay away. 0/10
overall alright for in between.
Section Mini Game is awesome But raw gameplay is not that good Inovative = NO Worth it = Mostly not ( For MiniGame yes) I see some work done soo keep up the work and you will maybe impress more people
#8 of ~69 in my "How many games can I get for under $5" review series. Air Combat Arena feels like the dollar store equivalent of a flight simulator. Like when you get a cheese burger at the dollar store and try to compare it to one from a really great drive in or gourmet restaurant. It's like comparing a dollar store AAA flashlight to a custom made hand machined 18650 flashlight. It might be fun, it might be enjoyable. But put it side by side with the real thing and it does not live up. The physics are pretty bad for something that claims to be a flying game. With no sense of lift or momentum included in the game. All weapons are fixed mounted meaning you have to steer in the direction you want to shoot. The only thing that makes it like a flying game is the fact that up and down are inverted on the mouse. Can I thumbs down? No. It's a dollar store game for a dollar store price. Can I say I'd buy it for $1? No. I got it on sale online for super cheap. Am I going to re-visit it later on? Yes. I'm most likely going to purchase keys for a group of friends and host a match some time depending on how people on my list feel about it.
