I have purchased all of totem games. they are truly unique in subject matter that no one else has dared to tackle. I enjoyed dynamics and gameplay mode as they have set it up.! The graphics are the best available for this era. If you enjoy modding your ship, that is, to a limited degree, possible too. You can add to the models, or deletetoo, but the texturing must be to the same model texture. Also, textures can be modded very easily. If you enjoy nautical and accurate games, This is a good one for you! 9.9 out of 10.

Ironclads 2: American Civil War is a historical naval warfare strategy game developed by Totem Games and published by Strategy First. Built around maritime conflict during one of America’s most significant historical periods, the game combines large-scale military planning with tactical ship-to-ship combat to create an experience centered on naval command and operational strategy. Rather than simplifying warfare into fast-paced arcade battles, it embraces a more deliberate simulation-driven structure where long-term planning and battlefield execution carry equal importance. The game places players within an alternate interpretation of the American Civil War during the early 1860s, a period where naval technology was evolving rapidly and maritime superiority could dramatically influence the course of war. Instead of following history without deviation, Ironclads 2 explores possibilities that could have altered naval balance during the conflict. This approach gives players opportunities to reshape military outcomes while remaining grounded within historical realities surrounding nineteenth-century warfare. One of the game’s strongest features comes from its layered campaign design. Strategic planning unfolds on a larger operational map where players oversee fleet deployment, protect coastal interests, maintain shipping routes, and coordinate military expansion. Naval forces become far more than battlefield units. Every ship contributes to a larger military machine where positioning, logistics, and timing directly influence success or failure. Resource management becomes a central responsibility throughout progression. Building naval strength requires careful balancing of production priorities, fleet preservation, and economic considerations. Maintaining warships, reinforcing damaged forces, and expanding operational capability all compete for attention. Players constantly face decisions involving where resources should be invested and which objectives deserve immediate focus. The campaign structure encourages long-term thinking rather than short-term aggression. Merchant shipping creates economic value but requires protection from enemy interference. Coastal operations become critical strategic objectives. Blockades, transport missions, and naval support operations strengthen immersion by creating a larger sense of military responsibility beyond direct combat encounters. When fleets meet in battle, the game transitions into real-time tactical engagements where battlefield command becomes the primary focus. Positioning ships effectively, controlling formations, and understanding vessel strengths become critical elements of victory. Naval warfare during this era depended heavily on tactical awareness rather than pure speed or overwhelming numbers, and Ironclads 2 captures much of that slower but methodical battlefield identity. The ship variety adds meaningful strategic depth. Ironclad warships, steam-powered vessels, and support ships each serve different battlefield purposes. Understanding fleet composition matters significantly because combat performance depends heavily on using available assets effectively. Success rarely comes from brute force alone. Smart deployment decisions and battlefield discipline often become more valuable than numerical superiority. Crew development introduces another welcome layer of progression. Ships surviving engagements gain greater long-term value as experience strengthens performance over time. This creates stronger attachment to fleet assets while encouraging thoughtful command decisions. Sacrificing ships recklessly becomes a costly mistake because preserving veteran forces strengthens future operations significantly. Historical atmosphere remains one of the game’s strongest achievements. The American Civil War represented a transformative period for naval warfare where industrial innovation reshaped military doctrine. Ironclads, evolving artillery systems, and steam propulsion changed combat permanently. The game successfully emphasizes this transition, creating an experience that feels connected to the historical realities shaping its setting. Visual presentation focuses heavily on practicality rather than spectacle. Battlefield information remains readable and ship models communicate roles clearly during engagements. The interface prioritizes command functionality over cinematic presentation, reinforcing the simulation-focused design philosophy. While visual limitations become noticeable compared to larger modern productions, clarity remains effective where it matters most. The game’s complexity naturally creates a learning curve that may challenge newer players. Ironclads 2 expects patience and willingness to learn interconnected systems rather than offering immediate accessibility. Some mechanics require experimentation before becoming intuitive, particularly for players unfamiliar with naval simulation games. The interface occasionally reveals the independent scope of the project as well. Pacing may also divide audiences. Campaign progression unfolds deliberately, reflecting the operational realities of nineteenth-century warfare. Players expecting nonstop combat may find portions of military management slower than anticipated. However, those seeking deeper strategic involvement will likely appreciate the measured structure. Ironclads 2: American Civil War succeeds because it remains committed to authenticity and operational depth rather than simplifying historical warfare into something more commercially accessible. Totem Games builds an experience designed for players who value planning, historical context, and military strategy over immediate action. For players interested in naval history, large-scale military planning, and strategy games built around thoughtful command decisions, Ironclads 2: American Civil War delivers a rewarding simulation that explores maritime warfare during one of history’s most important military transitions. Best civil War naval game out there
