About

For centuries, the Church has ruled humanity in the name of defense from the thousand-eyed snake living within the bowels of the world. As its Immortal Hunters held the line against the nightmarish Khemrids, servants of the snake god, humanity was rallied in service of the Holy War. All the Cardinals asked for in return was obedience.
As the War raged, heretics and blasphemers were sent to the dungeons, ancient scriptures at odds with Church dogma were burnt to cinders, while the most faithful were also burned. As they were martyred by the Church, their bodies fueled the Holy Fire, the only thing the Khemrids feared, apart from the Church's holy warriors.
All they managed was delaying the inevitable. As the Khemrids launch their final invasion, the Apocalypse unfolds. Among the ruins of the capital city, you take control of one of four surviving Hunters, using their unique abilities to fight your way across the burning urban landscape, experiencing a story full of unpredictable turns of events that may yet see the world saved!

As the Church and the Khemrid invasion collide, the Hunters are stuck in between with unlikely heroes, brazen heretics, lying Cardinals, and everyone else stuck in the city. As it burns, experience the End Times from four different perspectives. The clash of the titans sets in motion a hundred other battles: Ambition and lust for power tear the Church apart, a brave heretic stands up to the corruption, and the truth struggles to be heard after centuries of oppression.

Ultimately, it will be you, as one of the Immortal Hunters, who will define the fate of the world. Battle the Khemrid hordes, make difficult choices, unearth long forgotten lore, discover ancient secrets suppressed by the Cardinals, and maybe you'll have a chance of averting the Apocalypse. Are you up to the challenge?

Immortal Hunters, developed by Admiral Games and published by indie.io, is a dark-fantasy beat ’em up with strong RPG undertones, set in a world already teetering past salvation. Its premise is immediately gripping: humanity is collapsing after the Church has slain God, and now grotesque beings known as the Khemrids spill across the land, devouring what remains. You step into the boots of one of the last four Hunters—warriors infused with unnatural power and burdened with the truth behind the Cardinals’ sins. From the moment the opening cinematic plays, the tone is bleak, oppressive, and steeped in religious dread. The game frames its apocalyptic setting with a surprising amount of ambition, giving this 2.5D brawler a narrative weight that goes beyond the genre’s usual “fight through hordes” template. Gameplay blends classic arcade-style action with modern progression systems. Each Hunter has a distinct playstyle, offering different weapon types, attack rhythms, and skill trees. Combat revolves around chaining basic strikes with powerful abilities, dodging telegraphed attacks, and managing cooldowns to survive enemy swarms. When the pacing hits right, battles feel satisfying—enemies crumble under heavy swings, special abilities explode in vivid bursts of color, and boss encounters bring welcome spikes in tension. The game also supports up to four-player co-op, which adds a complementary layer of chaos and teamwork. Coordinating abilities, staggering enemies for teammates, or carving through hordes with synchronized ultimates can be genuinely thrilling. However, the combat is also where Immortal Hunters exposes its rough edges. While the intent is fast and impactful action, the execution sometimes feels stiff or delayed. Animations do not always transition fluidly, making certain attacks feel floaty when they should be weighty. The reliance on ability cooldowns can pull focus away from the immediacy of melee exchanges, and enemies occasionally swarm in patterns that feel more overwhelming than deliberate. These issues don’t break the game, but they interrupt the flow enough that combat doesn’t always deliver on its full potential. Fans of the genre may appreciate the hybrid direction but may also find themselves wishing for sharper responsiveness. Visually, the game is one of indie.io’s stronger-looking releases. The art direction leans into a dark, stylized aesthetic that combines painterly 2D character art with dramatic lighting and grim backdrops. Burning cathedrals, collapsing sanctuaries, and twisted demonic forms all contribute to a palpable sense of ruin. The visual contrast between holy imagery and monstrous corruption reinforces the game’s themes, making the world feel both tragic and hostile. Sound design enhances the mood—the deep growls, the clashing steel, and the ambient apocalyptic tones build a reliable auditory foundation for engagement. Though some cutscenes lack polish and animations vary in quality, the atmosphere remains consistently compelling. Narratively, Immortal Hunters aims high. While much of the story is delivered through short sequences and stylized panels rather than fully animated scenes, the themes of betrayal, corrupted faith, and humanity’s final desperation give the campaign emotional pull. Each Hunter’s personal backstory feeds into the broader conflict, and the revelations about the Cardinals and the nature of the divine add layers of intrigue. Unfortunately, the execution sometimes falls short of the ambition. Story beats can feel rushed, dialogue lacks the nuance needed to elevate dramatic moments, and the campaign concludes faster than expected, leaving little room for deeper character exploration or worldbuilding. The strong premise remains memorable, but the narrative framework would benefit from more time to breathe. In terms of longevity, Immortal Hunters offers a modest but satisfying package. The campaign is short, and while there are additional difficulty levels and co-op runs to enjoy, the endgame structure is thin compared to more robust action-RPGs. Still, for players who enjoy replaying stages with different Hunters, experimenting with builds, or joining friends for chaotic co-op sessions, there is meaningful fun to be found. Its price point and indie scope make its limitations understandable, and the foundation is strong enough to keep players engaged for its duration. Overall, Immortal Hunters is a stylish and promising action title that succeeds in mood, presentation, and cooperative excitement, while falling short of its full potential due to pacing, animation inconsistencies, and a campaign that ends too soon. For fans of dark fantasy worlds, post-apocalyptic narratives tinged with religious horror, and fast-paced brawlers with RPG progression, it delivers a memorable—if imperfect—experience. It may not redefine the genre, but it confidently carves out its own identity and offers a solid, atmospheric adventure for those eager to step into its doomed, demon-ravaged world. Rating: 6/10
crashes almost immediately on desktop and deck. literally unplayable.
Sacred Citadel does everything this game promised, but times better. Immortal Hunters? It's just bad all around. slow combat, unresponsive controls, bad voice acting, soulless graphic design it feels like a game made entirely with AI it's so bad it discouraged me from even trying to make any own game project just to avoid making something that bad out of lack of experience
