Today's patch broke the game for Steam deck, the fact this was not tested is ridiculous
The story is ok and leveling up to max was fun. But the end game....Insanely grindy and unbalanced. Kill every mob in one hit for ten minutes and then got one shot by some random thing. This happens constantly. Spend 10 hours grinding materials to reroll one item to exactly what you want, only to transfigure it and it turn to crap. This game is designed to waste your time in ALL OF THE WRONG WAYS. If you ever run into another player expect a crazy amount of rubber banding. I spent probably 20 hours farming a mythic helmet for a build based around no life only to get a god roll of plus 10% life on a transfigure roll...This game might be fun for streamers who get materials showered down upon them, but the end game is absolutely terrible for a casual player. Diablo2 is still the best, then D3 then D1 then very last D4. I blame streamers and Blizzard balancing the whole game based on them....the ones who play 12 hours a day... I hope I never come back.
I honestly don't know what's wrong with Blizzard anymore, or what the Diablo 4 team has been smoking. But it's definitely nothing good. Season 13 was actually okay. They improved a lot of things and finally seemed to be heading in the right direction. Even though the system around Kanai's Cube still feels unrewarding in many ways, and in my opinion still needs a lot of improvements. Right now it feels like you have to spend 500+ hours (at least that's what it feels like) just to finish gearing a single character. Making Mythic Sparks easier to obtain was a fantastic change. It finally allowed players to work toward the best items at a reasonable pace instead of relying on a 100+ hour lottery just to see one drop. The Cube system itself is also a good idea overall, since it adds more depth to the game and gives each season more potential. But as I already mentioned, it still needs work. Current Season: I've never had so little fun playing a Diablo 4 season as I have with this one. Who thought changing the Mythic item system was a good idea? It was actually in a pretty decent spot. Why do you always feel the need to change things that the community already considers good or at least acceptable? Why on earth was it considered a good idea to throw Unique items into the Mythic pool and allow them to become Mythics? The Barbarian alone doesn't have around 10 Mythic items anymore—it now has over 60. And as if that wasn't bad enough, someone also thought it would be a brilliant idea to lock only one or two affixes while making the other two completely random. Seriously, Blizzard... what an amazing system. By the time you finally get the item you want, you'll probably be dead in real life. Grinding is fine. It's part of an ARPG. But only up to a certain point. With this system, how long are people actually supposed to play? Why are you trying so hard to artificially extend the grind? You've managed to create a system where players literally pay with their lifetime. Instead of being rewarded after a reasonable amount of effort, you now have to grind for countless hours, only for the item to end up being complete garbage because two random affixes ruined it. Congratulations. You've officially shown that you've become exactly like EA and Ubisoft. As long as the money keeps coming in, nothing else seems to matter. The community finally praises a feature and enjoys it? Great—better ruin it in the very next season. Thanks for that. And whoever came up with this Mythic item rework... maybe consider firing them. That would actually be a good decision for once.
A really good game made completely unplayable by memory leaks, poor optimization, constant crashing. I have a good mid range PC that can run every other game i have played including large open world multiplayer game. This is the only game I've ever had trouble with.
A love for loot and seasons♥️
I played Diablo III a lot and took part in almost every season, so I was really excited for Diablo IV. At the beginning, Diablo IV felt a bit weak for me and didn't fully capture the same excitement I had with Diablo III. But over time, the game improved, and since Season 13 I’ve found myself enjoying it again and getting hooked once more. The Diablo series has always been special to me and Diablo IV still has that satisfying combat, dark atmosphere, and addictive gameplay loop. There is just something fun about creating a character, finding better gear, and coming back for another adventure. After so many hours with this series, I’m happy to be back in Sanctuary and looking forward to seeing what comes next ♥ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2952901194 ︵‿︵‿☾ 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 ☽︵‿︵‿ ♥️ Awesome 🤍 Very good 🤍 Good for play once 🤍 It's ok / little Bugs 🤍 Very Boring / much Bugs ︵‿︵‿☾ 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸 ☽︵‿︵‿ 🤍 10 / 10 🤍 5 / 10 ♥️ 9 / 10 🤍 4 / 10 🤍 8 / 10 🤍 3 / 10 🤍 7 / 10 🤍 2 / 10 🤍 6 / 10 🤍 1 / 10 ︵‿︵‿☾𝗦𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘀☽︵‿︵‿ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2953445806 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2985281911
Ive been playing Diablo 4 since released on battle net and have recently switched over to steam. The latest expansion has been top tier and has slowly started to bring this game back to feeling like actual diablo. This review is for the current form of the game, not at release obviously. Graphics - Beautiful. Dark and gritty, with some warmer areas. Diablo 4 looks fantastic visually and really sets itself apartment from Diablo 3. They definitely returned to the some what darker gritter tone similiar to 2, but not quite going all the way. The detail of the armor is insane, the horses, the pets. Everything is highly detailed and you see every bit of it. The world is gorgeous and as explained before, feature areas that are warm as well as dark. Overall its solid. Music - The music is good and it hits when it needs to. Otherwise its a standard Diablo experience. Story - The expansion definitely helped the games story ALOT. Story was a weak part of Diablo 4 for a long time in my opinion, but with lord of hatred, it has helped tremendously. Definitely more into it now than before. Gear and Loot - They have improved the gear system a ton since released. It feels rewarding, it feels fun and it feels engaging. The return of the horadric cube also makes for some fun item building and farming. The upgrade system is solid with the black smith also and allows you to aim to min/max everything on you. Combat - The combat is super fun for all the classes. I genuinely enjoy playing all classes in this Diablo, which was not something i did in previous ones (although it was only like 1 or 2 i didnt enjoy prior). My favorite is the druid and barbarian personally. Build Customization - The build variety in this game is very well done. There is a lot of potential builds for each class with different capabilities for different scenarios that you will find here. There is constant balance changes being made to try to keep the classes as balanced as possible. CONS The live service elements - Ive hated this since the start of D4. Its so obvious their goal was to turn D4 into the retail version of Diablo immortal. while not as egregious as that game, its still there. The constant seasons and battle passes etc are all very annoying for me personally. I dont mind the seasonal content but to have it tied to a bunch of items locked behind a battle pass that you will miss unless you max it out every 90 days is very annoying. It makes the game feel rushed, when sometimes I just want to play as my already maxed out character and push the limits of that character. This is just a me personal thing and i dont expect everyone else to feel the same way, i just would have rather seen a fully fleshed out D4 with no live service nonsense in it. Overall Diablo 4 is a solid game NOW but has a troubled history that cannot be ignored. Hopefully they continue the way they are going with this recent expansion and dont revert back. Thanks for reading.
Diablo IV is the perfect game if you want to turn your brain off completely, look at flashing colours and destroy all of hells diabolical creatures. It is a masterpiece of wasting your life-time on Earth. Naturally, I’ve played it for hours…10/10
I have played every season of Diablo IV since launch. I am also an older gamer, which probably colors how I look at the game. I am not trying to race anyone, impress anyone, or turn every season into a second job. I want a good ARPG power fantasy, a reason to log in, a character that gets stronger in satisfying ways, and enough stuff to do that I can pick my own level of seriousness. For me, Diablo IV has become one of the better games in a surprisingly thin ARPG landscape. I play Path of Exile 2 (913 hours) , Last Epoch (1,800 hours), Grim Dawn (612 hours) and Diablo IV (654 hours) . Don't judge those times, I am retired and enjoy ARPGs! They all do different things well, but Diablo IV has its own lane. It is more approachable, more polished moment to moment, and much easier for me to just sit down, relax, kill demons, make numbers go up, and enjoy the fantasy of becoming absurdly powerful. The game is much better now than it was at launch. The endgame has been fleshed out a lot. There are more systems layered on top of each other, more reasons to move around the world, more ways to work on a character, and more activities that feel like they feed into the larger loop instead of just being isolated chores. It still has that “log in, pick a thing, smash monsters, improve gear” rhythm, but now there are enough things to pick from that it feels more complete. I also really like the open world. A lot of ARPGs are basically menus that teleport you into monster hallways. Diablo IV has towns, zones, strongholds, events, world bosses, Helltides, quest chains, dungeons, little side stories, and all the environmental flavor that makes Sanctuary feel like an actual place. The campaigns are high quality, the production values are excellent, and there are a surprising number of quests if you slow down enough to notice them. That last part matters. Questing is best enjoyed with a very low-level character on Normal or Hard. Once your build is online and you are blowing up entire screens, the beautiful dungeons, terrain, monsters, and little details all become a stream of diluted pixels. That is fun too, obviously. That is the ARPG promise. But the game actually has a lot of atmosphere if you are not deleting the screen before your brain can process what you are looking at. I enjoy both sides of the game. I like having permanent characters I can keep improving over time, but I also enjoy the disposable seasonal journey. That sounds negative, but I mean it positively. A season gives me an excuse to make a new character, play with the new systems, unlock cosmetics, check off the journey, and then move on when I am done. It does not always have to be a forever character. Sometimes it is just a fun seasonal project. The cosmetics are also better than they get credit for. Yes, the cash shop is expensive. No argument there. But the seasonal Reliquary value is actually pretty good. If you count the platinum you get back from the Reliquary itself, it works out to roughly $7.50 a season for a pile of unlockable armor, weapons, mounts, pets, portals, and other cosmetics. Compared to the cash shop prices, that feels like the sane way to collect cool stuff. I like transmogs in general, and Diablo IV has a lot of great armor and weapon looks. Crafting and gearing have also improved. It is still not perfect, and I am sure spreadsheet goblins can find ways to make anything complicated, but it is much easier to understand than it used to be. It has enough depth that improving a character feels meaningful, but it is not so opaque that I feel like I need to take a graduate course before replacing a pair of gloves. For the most part, I can understand what I am chasing, make progress toward it, and feel the character get stronger. The community is another plus. Diablo IV has a good streaming and guide community, and that matters for this kind of game. You can play casually, but if you want to go deeper, there are people testing builds, explaining mechanics, pushing content, and doing the math. I like being able to bounce between “I am just chilling and killing monsters” and “okay, why exactly does this build work?” Diablo IV is not a perfect ARPG, but I think it is very clearly a good one. It is chill, it looks great, it sounds great, the combat feels good, the power fantasy works, the endgame is much stronger than it used to be, and the seasonal structure gives me a reason to keep coming back without demanding that I live there. For me, that is enough. More than enough, apparently, given the hours.
Man it's really annoying every single time I want to try a season of this game, they botch something technical and have me wait a few days to a week, until obviously I have moved on, and end up not playing it. Season 14 is the same, they put a Windows System Performance Data Integrity Check into diablo_iv_loader.dll to query standard windows metrics, entirely ignoring the fact they've posted steamdeck verified and actively make money from the linux community, did zero proton QA testing, even while having said verified badge, and ruined yet another update I wanted to play on, good job blizzard.
Nothing worse than paying full price for a game and then finding locked content as soon as you start it up. Blizzard in a nutshell. Live service can be okay, but here is just feels gross. Returned pretty soon after.
