Jun Mizushima, is ordinary in every way, except for the fact that he’s the only son of a wealthy businessman and that dabbles in video game development in his spare time. He also has an ability to make everything he wishes a reality. Or, so he thinks.

Reviews
My review is more neutral than positive, while the cons I will talk about may make some people skip the game completely. For those of you who do not like reading, a TL;DR:
Pros:
- the writing is simple and nice; the story is light and makes you feel different emotions throughout the game ranging from excitement and happiness to sadness and anger; - some backgrounds look really nice and fit in the game perfectly; - many CGs are well-drawn, I liked work of the artist in this part; - some music tracks were very pleasing to the ear; - the way characters are drawn may look too simplified or strange at first, but after some time you will get used to it.
Cons:
- almost all music is pretty generic and I have heard some of the tracks in other games; - the game feels somewhat incomplete because of the lack of voices for some characters and the fact that the ones that can speak do not have all of their phrases voiced; - some problems with portraits’ animation and lack of portraits even for some main characters; - some characters’ sprites looked strange, and almost no characters except for the main ones have sprites at all; - some backgrounds were somewhat out of place and most of them are completely lifeless (there are no people except for the main characters); - the game starts out really slowly, so it will take time to see some action or CGs. All in all, it is a sweet and simple game, but you will need some time to get used to it. There are no major drawbacks or bugs, but some small parts do not go together well enough. Some people will find it annoying and give up playing, and some will simply forget about them and enjoy the overall experience. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1357928882
Now, the full review. Where to start…
When I first saw this game, my only thought was “fan service and school…please, no”. Do not get me wrong, I have watched my fair share of fan service titles and the ones about school students and even enjoyed some of them. For example, I cannot but mention anime Green Green. This anime has fan service in its very core, as well as teenagers as the main characters, but it also had some nice humor and a touching story about love that can last through the time and dimensions. So, why am I talking about this all of a sudden? Simple: I want to show that if I decide to watch or play and obviously fan service title (the same goes for yuri ones), it should have some really good features to accompany it – a good plot, an interesting story and/or well-developed characters that will not act stupid all the time. Now, let’s finally look at His Chuunibyou Cannot Be Cured! and decide together whether this game has any of the abovementioned features or not.
Plot and Characters
Jun Mizushima, the main character, is not actually a very popular person. The reason is that he thinks he has some special powers, but no one would believe him. That is why people call him “Chuunibyou”. Jun is also the leader of a Game Developers club at school, and almost all other characters of this game are its members. We will meet Ai (a prodigy artist), Tsumiki (Jun’s childhood friend), Yui (an amazing guitarist and a great singer) and Takahiro (a talented programmer). Megumi Horie, a teacher with a bad record of less than professional behavior, supervises the team. Jun also has a sister called Shiro, who badly reminds me of a character from a well-known anime. The main advantage of this game is that Jun is not annoying (and many visual novels actually suffer from stupid MCs greatly). He has some good leadership skills, he is not a pervert and he acts sensible most of the time. Other characters have pretty generic personalities, but almost all school stories have them, so it just goes with the game, I guess. I should also mention that the game starts out slowly, so you will have to wait for some action to take place and some CGs to come up. I also wish there were more choices. At some points, the game looked more like a kinetic one.
Music and Voices
I did not like the music in the main menu, not even the slightest. I found it extremely annoying and did my best to go into the game ASAP instead of listening to it. I should also mention that I recognized some tracks – I definitely heard them in other games. For example, the one that greets you in the club room was also used in a mobile game Cerulean Heart. With how much time I have spent in this game, I will recognize its music anywhere. I cannot say it is a bad thing while many games use the same tracks (for example, RPG Maker titles), but it still made me feel a bit uncomfortable. At the same time, I really liked the music in the options menu. The one that sounded like a music box, a very gentle and light tune. The track in the city was also very sweet and I enjoyed listening to it. Only some characters have voices, and even the ones that have them are not fully voiced. I cannot say I have noticed anything special about them, though. Ai’s voice sounded somewhat strange, to be honest, and I cannot say I liked other voices very much either. Still, the voice actors did their job pretty well (Megumi’s one was amazing!), so it might be just my issue.
Art and Interface
Again, when I first saw screenshots for this game, I was unimpressed. All these pantsu shots made me cringe a bit. And I have got a question: why does the main character look so much like Lelouch Lamperouge at times?! Was it an intentional reference, as well as his belief in his special powers? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1357931584 Characters’ sprites are partially animated. For example, they can blink. Another good point is that there are more than one of them for each person, and it helps to show their emotions better. I should also mention that I needed some time to get used to characters’ art, but eventually I found most of them nice. I also found it sad that only the main characters have sprites. Even the rival of Jun does not have one, and I think it makes him more of a spirit than an actual person. I have noticed a pretty unpleasant thing, though. MC’s portrait sometimes jumps in during the conversation between other characters. And it is definitely not supposed to be there, which is clear from how fast it disappears. I assume there is some issue with either the animation or the coding. The main drawback of backgrounds is that all of them look lifeless. There are no people there except for the main characters’ sprites. For example, Jun describes a school corridor before the exams as a crowded one, but we can only see some completely empty space. The last thing I want to mention are chibis of female characters. They were adorable! This is the part I liked the most about the art in the game along with many CGs. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1357929765
Conclusion
It took me a lot of time to decide what kind of review I want to write. At first, it was supposed to be negative. The first impression of the game was bad, and it started just from the screenshots I saw. After getting further into the game, my opinion started to change to a more neutral one. In the end, I decided to make my review neutral but with a positive sign, while I want to give this game a chance. I would recommend His Chuunibyou Cannot Be Cured! to people who are not too experienced in visual novels in general and who want to read something simple and cute. Give this game a chance and you may find a visual novel that is not really stunning or extraordinary in any aspect, but will still make you smile and cry while reading it. And the last thing I want to mention: the game did not contain as much fan service as I was afraid it would. Hooray! don't know if I'm missing anything but as far as I can tell its a visual novel equivalent to a B rated movies, it's very meh. doesn't stand out much but I guess its alright kinda. wouldn't recommend at 10.99 pounds tho, not with the likes of nekopara and even sukara

As expected in the early version "Kachuna" I love the new little details with the chibis of choosing on who's route you'll be chosing. I like the little new dialog from the previous ones. I still adore the charcters and how the story is leading to. The music is cool, I like the new added ones, and still like the art style of it. During the two hours, I thought, I'll be getting a CG by then, but I guess I have to wait till I get to a specific scene, I still like it though, it keeps me in suspense on like, "Is it going to happen! or like ohmy god!!!!" My voice was killing me during the stream for this game. I seek justice in this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_jwn7vdzk8
I dont even know where to begin about this game. In the few hours that I have played so far I have become completely invested in the characters and in the story. They are all so loveable. Ive only followed Yui's route so far and it has had me smiling, laughing and getting teary eyed. That to me is the sign of a fantastic visual novel, when your invested in the characters and want to be in that world with them. The story has also been pretty well written so far and is captivating. Although nothing grand in scale it is still a very endearing "highschool" story that is fun to play though. My only wish is that the game had a few more choices in it so far. Most of the choices are for getting you on route paths as far as I can tell instead of actually having something like a conversation with the characters. I know in certain instances I wish I could just speak for the MC but I understand how difficult it is to make a story with choices that have impact instead of having meaningless choices just for the sake of having a lot of choices. Also, more CGs...definetly need more of those. Im looking forward to finishing this game, I think I still have time left and I cant wait to keep moving forward with these characters!
《His Chuunibyou Cannot Be Cured!》(他的中二病无法治愈)是美少女游戏开发商Tamaya Kagiya,曾开发《I am Succubus!》、《Peace of Evil》等美少女游戏公司的第三款作品,是一款校园题材的恋爱AVG游戏。
His Chuunibyou Cannot Be Cured!
