I wish more people knew about this GEM of a game! *edit after a LONG time I have played the demo, and the full game and LOVED it, everything about it was fresh, new! Then came in the later changes, making this game an extremely difficult base-growing game. Doesn't feel like growing a tree with realistic-enough abilities and some outlandish ones, now it feels like a nightmarish monster eventually growing into a mass of stuff. I remember the three difficulty modes were actually different, I was able to beat or play at med and hard, but my brother could only do easy. Once the later updates came out, he was unable to beat easy mode. But nothing comes CLOSE to the original first 4 season soundtracks being DELETED from the game AND youtube. They have been gone for a long while, and without them, the game kinda feels off... The original one I bought it for was gone, instead, it is a completely different game than what it was before. Now you'd think that this would be a negative review, but I don't hate it nor do I recommend that you IMMEDIATELY throw this in the trash. It is a good game, I still come back to it every once in a while. BUT, for me at least, the "new" version doesn't feel the same anymore.
For the price of this game it seems like good value. Though I don't feel there is a tremendous amount of replayability. For what you get, it's a fun 1-2 hours of entertainment which is more than some games can boast with a price tag 3 or 4x more than this... I could have got my steam refund as I have only played for 90m. I'm not going to do that because the dev deserves the money.
it's okay
Excellent game mechanics hampered by really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dialogue and questionable graphical choices. If this could be reskinned, I would heartily recommend it.
I really like this game. It's not super complicated, but learning how to get a properly huge tree is entertaining and difficult enough to be a puzzle but not so difficult as to be frustrating. The game has received frequent and substantial updates since launch and is definitely worth $10.
I originally figured this would be one of the games that I played one or two hours of before never touch it again. Despite its "rough around the edges" presentation, Heliotropism provides you with a fresh take on the city-builder/resource management/rogue-lite genres. The whole game is balanced around three pieces (root, stem, leaf) which all provide and require one or more of the different currencies (water, energy, capacity). The game keeps things fresh with random events, relics that drastically alters gameplay, and upgrades between games. It should be mentioned that there is a narrator in the game. The acting is quite good, but the affected dialect can bounce people off. In many respects the whole narrator idea is a like a fungus: kinda weird, kinda cool, and it grows on you over time if you don't remove it.
Currently, it's low priority or possibly abandoned by the devs, so it's a little unbalanced and gets laggy if you're doing really well, but it's really cool regardless! My laptop can handle it.
It's like someone took Slay The Spire and made it about trees. But not as good. But still really good. Also the commentary gets repetitive, but is hilarious regardless :D
This game warned me, that the fewer micro-transactions I make, the more crises I will experience.
I'm enjoying it. the narrator is cool at first, then hyper annoying. Luckily you can silence him. it is a totally different type of game that really has to do with getting the right cards to win. very little skill and ridiculously interesting. Found this looking for a flash game that you grew trees and defended from insects. led me to roll of hex as well.
