In Heart-Lung Machine you awaken in a dark abandoned underground facility with only a flickering flashlight. As you navigate the eerie corridors, you must search for items such as batteries or objective related items to ensure your survival and save passage. The game features realistic hiding mechanics, requiring you to physically crouch behind objects, crawl into shafts, slide under tables, or squeeze into lockers to evade a relentless monster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwdCCXrGj5M The game presents an unpredictable and relentless challenge. This unpredictability combined with the game's immersive VR experience creates a deeply unsettling atmosphere. The constant tension and fear of being discovered by the monster contribute to the game's ability to instill genuine fear in players. Overall, Heart-Lung Machine offers a unique and terrifying VR horror experience that keeps you on edge from start to finish.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/rlaAq6f4964 This is a neutral recommendation. This is alright for a budget indie horror title. You're basically hiding in the dark, behind cover, from the patrolling monster, while trying to navigate and escape from the abandoned underground complex. There's really nothing original here, but it's nice enough if you're looking for spooks in the dark. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080, it seemed to be running fine. I did not experience any serious issues or bugs. You have full locomotion, along with smooth or snap turning. You can play comfortably seated. You have head based camera or controller. You have toggle grip available. You have a highlighted holster system. Like I said, the game works fine enough. For an indie title, it looks okay. The spatial audio is fine. The gameplay is pretty basic, but it works, especially if you're new to VR horror. For us PCVR veterans though, this game may be too simplistic. Great horror VR game. Super dark and spooky monster did some things i wasnt expecting.
Note: was a playtester. Overall a good immersive horror game. Play time for average will be 2 hours, I finished in about an hour but I have background in horrors like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, and as a long life gamer I was able to make steps I wouldn't have as a newer gamer to horrors. Bugs I reported got fixed by the developer as well as quality of life suggestions like a crouch button and hold instead of press option for the flashlight. So kudos to the developer. Still wish there was that option for the rest of the items, but part of the horror comes from trying to grab an item in a hurry and not being able to while you hear the enemy coming. Don't expect much story, this game's purpose is to let you use your body as your survival mechanism, hiding in corners, behind boxes, in lockers, etc. That's where it shines. For the time of a movie but half the price, you'll get your moneys worth.
I haven’t finished the game yet, but there are a few things that are kind of a problem for me: 1. The settings reset to default in every level except level one. 2. The egg timer shouldn’t activate instantly when grabbed. 3. Not adding a checkpoint to level three feels a bit harsh - I had to redo level two because I couldn’t find the second fuse and needed a break before spending more time searching. Overall, I like the game, but I’m sure if these three issues were adjusted, it would be an improvement. Edit: I finished the game now, and I'm not sure if it's a bug or a feature that you can't shine light through the locker to check if the monster is there, but I think it works well overall. Since the monster also relies heavily on sounds, this feature actually adds to the atmosphere. Besides the points I mentioned before, everything else works pretty smoothly.
A great VR horror game. Very dark with some puzzle elements. The developer is great and listens to feedback and improves with every update.
Even though its a really small (20 minutes max with safe mode) game, this monstrosity has some serious horror atmosphere which can only be described as nerve wrecking. The game is really basic but works really well in vr and the story behind it is in my opinion quite disturbing. I was physically sweating in some areas out of pure fear, i've only felt like this in 2 other instances: 1. the headcrab infested hotel from HL Alyx and 2. the spider tunnels from Metro Awakening. This has the potential to become the next poppy playtime or fnaf BUT in vr, which makes it waaayyyy more scarier and gives it more potential. I hope to see a continuation of this or atleast some kind of extra content. 8.5/10 minimal content, nerve wrecking atmosphere, intense monster, disturbing lore, alright mechanics
