About
Those Who Crawl VR is a standalone VR port of Those Who Crawl. Enter a tense horror experience where you crawl and climb through cave tunnels. Use the VR controllers to navigate the tunnels as they begin to tighten. Soon, you will find you are not alone.
As you progress, the stone walls become flesh and bone. The water in flooded tunnels is now blood red. This would be a horrible place to die. Now in the darkness, you hear something moving ... something with many legs.
Utilize sharpened bone knives to cut away at the sinue and flesh that blocks your path. Stab them into the walls to make improvised handholds. Be careful, however, as the fragile bone will break after several uses, leaving you without a lifeline.
Creatures lurk deep within the tunnels. They are bigger than you and faster. You can't fight back. Your best bet is to run - or rather desperately crawl. You could try using your knives, but would that even work against these monsters?
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/iZ4kvYvxTZI I enjoyed this short spelunky horror game. It took me about 40-45 minutes to complete. You crawl on the ground or grab unto rock ledges. If you can't find something to grab unto, you can use your breakable knives to climb up the walls. There's these underground monsters that guard the caves and you have to navigate your way around them. You can go underwater or into nestled areas (sort of like wooden doors). However, your knives break and you can get into some very precarious situations. I enjoyed the pixel art-style. It may not seem like it, but the art-style here looks good in VR and there's an overall creepy and unsettling atmosphere to these caves. There's also good spatial audio. The gameplay is simple, but immersive in VR. You feel helpless as you try to survive and find an escape. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps, but I did notice a micro-stutter or two. There were no settings that I saw whatsoever. You only have snap turning available. You can play comfortably seated. Rate 7/10
I bought this game! Do you like horror aesthetics but HATE the horror genre's over reliance on 110 decibel jumpscares? This is the game for you. The game's mood and atmosphere is delectably creepy, without relying on jumpscares. Other than that, it's a short and sweet horror game with a unique movement system that makes you feel the weight of being in a tense, horrific situation. If you're into horror, it is absolutely worth a try!
Really tense VR experience! I played both the flatscreen and VR versions and felt that the VR port really improved gameplay and immersion. Not as claustrophobic as you might think, I felt very comfortable moving around (though if you are playing this make sure that you have plenty of space around you, as this is a game that moves your center around constantly. Only thing I think could be added is a pause screen - the spider enemies were a lot to deal with and taking off the headset didn't pause the gameplay so i died a couple times to them that way. But honestly, this is a nice quick little game and worth playing for an hour. Editing to add - I played this on a Quest 3 through Steam Link.
Liked a lot, shot and fun, guys, dont do refund!
Great adaptation of the original flatscreen version. I strongly recommend giving it a try both sitting and standing to see which is more comfortable. Personally, I preferred being seated as it helped with the immersion.
I guess we really did crawl
