Headquarters: Cold War is a fast-paced turn-based strategy game set in a hypothetical conflict between NATO and the USSR in 1984. Commanders can play as either side across two plot-driven campaigns and a variety of skirmish missions. Build your force, assign heroes, level up units, and use powerful Headquarters skills to outsmart the enemy and change the course of modern history.
The combat system follows the easy to learn, hard to master philosophy, offering depth and realism with every decision:
Units feature detailed armor (front, side, back, top) where positioning is critical.
Terrain and obstacles provide directional cover and shape the battlefield.
Destroyed vehicles and buildings create new tactical opportunities.
High ground and destructible environments add verticality and unpredictability.
See both sides of the story
Two full campaigns with 10 missions each, for a total of 20 story-driven operations.
Six Skirmish maps designed for replayability and tactical variety.
58 highly detailed unit models and a wide range of 3D environment assets.
Immersing atmosphere with 12 original music tracks, with high quality sound effects that heighten immersion.
Play unique Unit classes: Utility and Attack helicopters. Take command of the first airborne units in the series, capable of transporting infantry, delivering pinpoint strikes, and dominating the battlefield with unmatched mobility.
New HQ skills: adding devastating new abilities such as Resupply, MLRS, Air Strike, and even a Tactical Nuke.
All-new Officer skill trees, offering powerful abilities like Close Quarters Battle, Field Interrogation, Camo Net, Modular Armor Panels, Enhanced Radar Systems, and more to customize your strategy.
Rebalanced Cold War-era gameplay, with increased movement and attack ranges that reflect modern technology while keeping the tactical depth you expect.
The in-game Map Editor lets you design custom skirmish and multiplayer maps from the ground up. Shape the terrain, place objectives, and craft unique tactical scenarios to challenge yourself and others
Between battles, upgrade and customize your units. Assign heroes with unique skills, level up troops, and adapt your force composition to overcome every scenario.
Every unit has a crew, and each member matters. Lose a gunner and firepower drops; lose a driver and mobility suffers. Protect your crews if you want to maintain combat effectiveness.
Play through two campaigns (NATO and USSR) with 10 missions each, test your tactics in Skirmish battles against improved AI, or challenge friends in online multiplayer with up to 4 players. Cooperative 2v2 battles are supported, along with asynchronous play through Slitherine’s CombatHQ system.

Great game to practice tactics and different techniques to turn the tide of battle into your favour. It is well priced for a fun experience of the cold war.
This is not a hard core cold war game. it is a Fast-paced turned base game that all units from both side are mirrored but different stats (and Mi-24 can carry troops but AH-64 can't), and with solid system like stealth, recon, overwatch, reaction time, hero etc. it is able to sit back and watch the move/kill cam or to skip it. the models are good, all units can be customize (camo and decal). and full voicing.

Good Turn based strategy that rewards positioning, terrain and unit facing. Also has support for controllers which makes it easy to play on handheld. I have played for 10 hours on the ROG Ally. Controller support worked well, but UI text was quite small. I am still learning how to play, but helicopters seem very strong. Anti-air units are the only units that can hit them, and they often do do enough damage or miss. Once all AA units are killed, helicopters are untouchable except by airstrike. It would be nice if some vehicles with HMGs could target helicopters at short range, or if there was a MANPAD upgrade for infantry.
Headequaters Cold War W 1984r. Samouczek (ocena 75/100) Samouczek spełnia swoje zadanie i pozwala szybko opanować podstawowe mechaniki. Grafika (ocena 85/100) To jeden z najmocniejszych elementów gry. Przewidywany czas rozgrywki ? Chcąc zaliczyć wszystkie scenariusze musisz poświęcić około 40-50 godzin. Jedna kampania to około 20 godzin. Właściwie bez samouczka opanujesz go w jakieś 10 minut. Spełnia on swoją rolę również dzięki efektom dźwiękowym, prowadzonej narracji i muzyce. Ta ostatnia jednak nie należy do szczególnie wybitnych. Ot na podstawowym poziomie, lecz bez budowania ogromnego napięcia i pełnego zaangażowania gracza. Mechanika i logika gry (ocena 40/100) System walki jest przejrzysty i stosunkowo łatwy do opanowania. Znaczenie mają rodzaje terenu, kierunki ataku oraz współdziałanie różnych typów jednostek. Cała gra to pewien kompromis pomiędzy taktyką i strategią a grywalnością i ochronną przed intelektualnymi wyzwaniami. Sympatycy miłych, łatwych i relaksujących strategii. (promocji brak). OCENA ŁĄCZNA: 60/100 Specyfikacja autora i użytego PC: Doświadczenie w grach tego typu: 35 lat Specjalizacja gatunkowa recenzenta: ekonomia, zarządzanie, budowanie, wojenne, strategiczne, symulatory. It's just unappealing on a couple different levels
What is important in the game?

Scouting by recon units is absolutely critical.

Recon units must always be sent ahead. The recon vehicle has so many movement points that it can scout and then retreat out of the danger zone. This is a major difference between HQ Cold War and HQ WW II; in the latter, it would just stand out of movement points at the front and get shot to pieces. Infantry scouts are equally important. Skill points should urgently be invested into scouting capabilities.

The facing/orientation of vehicles, tanks, and helicopters.

Changing the facing of vehicles costs no action points. At the end of a turn, you should always make sure that the front of your vehicles faces the suspected enemy position.

"Suppressing" the enemy.

The game indicates if your own unit will be fired upon by a spotted enemy during movement. If you target the enemy beforehand with direct or indirect artillery fire, they lose their "Overwatch" status. This allows you to move closer to them or flank them (see the next point). An unspotted enemy can, of course, still take you out (see the first point).

Flank the enemy whenever possible and attack from the side.

Hitting tanks and helicopters from the flank inflicts the heaviest damage. Infantry units often carry an RPG/anti-tank weapon. They use it at close range, which is why you should keep your distance with vehicles.

Losses are expected and will be replaced after a scenario.

This sets this game apart from many other wargames, where you have to think much longer to avoid losing your core units. This allows for a much faster playstyle, though always keeping point 1 in mind.

Differences between Cold War and Headquarters WW II:

The scale of the game is larger

Recon vehicles drive further, infantry scouts move further, and tanks shoot further. By the middle of the campaign, you might face up to 50 enemy units at once. Helicopters and anti-air units are now included.

The Units

On the NATO side, the M40A1, Leopard 1, Leopard 2, and M1 Abrams tanks are introduced over the course of the campaign. Generally, all units are now Cold War era instead of World War II.

The maps in the game

In "HQ WW II" we were on the French Atlantic coast, and now we are in German cities.
