HAIL TO THE KING!
Listen man, I love Avenged Sevenfold. Easily one of the best bands of all time. However, this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. No amount of song references and A7X related humour can save it. I will now be hearing Johnny Christ say "Here's Johnny" in my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare ;)
For what it is (a mobile game port) it's honestly pretty good and is definitely worth playing if you're a fan of the band
Hail to the King: Deathbat is a Avenged Sevenfold ARPG type game. It is a very fascinating game just from why was this made, it seems so strange. M. Shadows helped on some design stuff, but I presume the actual game design was done by the only other 2 people in the credits who I can only assume are two people I found with the same names on Mobygames. One working at Jarhead games making very military shooters, and another one being a lead programmer at Wayforward. This game is so close to being pretty enjoyable, but its held back by 1 critical flaw, and some minor ones. The main flaw being when you swing your sword, it is tied to the direction you are facing and not where your mouse is. This makes it incredibly hard to kite enemies around, which you kind of need to do to survive in this game. If this was fixed, it would be much more bearable. The other smaller problem is there are a lot of traps and I don't really know how to dodge them, resulting in a lot of damage taken. Besides combat, the gameplay consists of going through dungeons that are pretty Zelda inspired on a surface level. Get a silver key, get a boss key, maybe do a puzzle on the way. The soundtrack sounded cool, and it is has completely new instrumental music from A7X made for this game. Like some of it seemed kind of not what they do and thats dope. There are some instrumental versions of their songs in some places. The fan service for A7X is fun too, and this combines with the use of music when you die it says "I know it's not your time ... but bye-bye" and plays a instrumental of "A Little Piece of Heaven" that those lyrics are from and when I realized that I pogged so hard. Cool for A7X, and almost fun enough to play it through, but sadly just so so close to enjoyable.
this might be the best game ever made.
Adoroo.
Unfortunately, I had to buy the game twice, I bought it years ago on android however there is no longer any support for it. That being said, this game isn't all that great unless you're playing it as a fan. If you're a fan of Avenged Sevenfold, buy the game YOU'LL love it I assure you. Otherwise keep moving. But on the other hand, it's relatively cheap, so if you're looking for a causal game to play, then this is a good recommendation. especially if you're solely a mobile platform gamer.
As a big fan of the band, I really enjoyed the music that they did for the game. The art that is in the Book of Mortals are some incredible art pieces. While the controls are a little bit clunky, the gameplay is fun, and can be a little bit challenging.
