Level design is not really good, quest objectives are incomprehensible, boss that one shot for absolutly no reasons. When you add that to the fact you MUST have done the 2 previous expentions and backtrack all over nearly the end for FG for a random main quest, that expension in honeslty not really good. It also looks like the Berserk is realy weak but didn't try it myself yet. Also, for the first time playing this game, I felt... bored? I had to forced myself to progress on the main quest. I don't know really why, but lots of new zones feel empty, uninterresting, not well designed. Might need to cook a bit more this one crate.
The gameplay/difficulty changes seems very contended, so this is another updoot in favour of it for the discourse. Been playing Grim Dawn on and off ever since release (I think, it's been a while.), and it has always been one of my fave goto ARPGs over the years. This dlc doesn't change that for me, personally, but I do understand the frustration from others. Having to play the game fundamentally different, having builds invalidated etc. It is a bit of a mixed bag; the difficulty increase has led to some excruciatingly eggplant-flattening moments, but overall I feel the game is fine. The dlc adds a lot of new content, and the new class feels very fun to play. The altar giving players the power to target farm is a very nice addition, I just wish we could see the actual percentages instead of having to guess how much a X% increase to tempest totem spawn-rate is.
Grim Dawn has received a lot of beutification and modernization over the 10 years bringing it up to the same standards modern ARPG's while retaining its classic feel. Fangs of Asterkarn is probably the weakest actual DLC of the three, but all of the mechanical, graphical, and itemization improvements more than makeup for it. I thoroughly enjoyed returning to the world and hunting down secrets. I played as a Berserker/Arcanist caster all the way to 100, and the new class fit seamlessly with the others. Progressing up through the new Ascended difficulty felt very satisfying, and there's still some tough challenges I don't plan on tackling in the form of superbosses. I do wish they released the new "one-shot" dungeon on release, because I don't think I'll have it in me to return when it releases later this year. I was looking forward to the new boss, as the final boss of Fangs of Asterkarn was very mechanically satisfying to fight.

It's fine. Not great, not terrible. You don't need this unless you have the other expansions, and if you do, you'll get this anyway. The biggest disappointment for me here is the berserker mastery. It is not "transformative" - the wereforms actually feel more restrictive build-wise as you're simply locked into a set of abilities you must use, and which explicitly does not synergise with existing weapon pool skills. It doesn't even synergise with *itself* half the time. It's a very confused mastery. The transformation gimmick is just a skin. Overall it's juat another melee-focused mastery to sit alongside soldier and oathkeeper. It does nothing new. You have a self heal/buff, you have a "leap" …. ooo, exciting. What are the chances I don't already have a leap/rush skill from my other mastery, if not my medal affix? I was quite excited for what they'd do here but I'm gonna be honest, other devs have had far more interesting ideas for what to do with wereforms. This might be the most boring take on transformations I've seen in an ARPG, which is a damn shame. They even did it more interestingly themselves with oathkeeper's ascension, for instance. Diablo 4 had a druid build where you got bonuses from switching between the forms, and some cool build-and-spend effects. If this mastery were basegame, it might not feel so bad, but this was explicitly sold as a mastery that couldn't have existed without engine breakthroughs. "Transformative" evokes hype. This, though, is incredibly unambitious and boring considering the potential. I think a lot of the criticism is overstated and I feel Crate have earned enough goodwill to say that we'll get years of support and fixes. But I do also think it's fair to point out where this expansion dropped the ball.
