The base game with its first two DLCs is in my Top 3 ARPGs of all time, but this DLC just doesn't click with me. The new region feels too large and empty, the quests are pretty lame and some of the new enemies are way too overtuned. What I dislike the most is the decision to have this weird tie-in with the other two DLCs, just to (basically?) force the players to also buy the other two DLCs. That is very questionable (to put it nicely). I don't really regret my decision to buy the new DLC, because after a 1000 hours in Grim Dawn I just wanted to show some love for the makers of this game. But if you have never played Grim Dawn before and wanna check it out, then my recommendation is to not buy this DLC. Instead just buy the base game and then if you like it, get the first two DLCs (Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods). Unless there's a Steam Sale, then just grab it all of for like 12 EUR. And then if you played through all of that and still want more, then (and only then) get Fangs of Asterkarn.
WTF have you Done to the game I cant make long Names now NORE CAN I F!!kin g DELETE MY CARITERS WHO HAVE 1st & LAST NAMES NOW ALSO I HAVE THIS GREEN PURPEL FILTER OVER THE ENRITER GAME IT'S NOT MY DRIVERS WHO NEEDS TO FIRDE OVER THERE FOR THIS DUMB @ss DISISHION
UPDATE TO THE BELOW: the below issue was partially addressed by Crate in the patch released on 8 August 2026 (game version Grim Dawn v1.3.0.6). Please see below, beneath the dashed line, for the original issue. The quoted fix is as follows: "The Secrets of Ugdenbog and Cleansing Fire of a Forgotten God quests can now be completed retroactively by using Difficulty Merits or Multiplayer and no longer require fully progressing to those points in the respective expansions for veteran players. The quests auto-update upon looting the respective quest items." This removes the interruption when playing characters that have already completed all required earlier content on normal difficulty. Such characters can also purchase a Difficulty Merit from a vendor in the town hub of Act 6, which can be transferred to other characters via the in-game stash system. When used by a character, the Merit unlocks all rifts (waypoints) in the game for that character (among other things - it also opens up the next difficutly tier, for example). The character may then travel directly to the relevant zones and collect the required item, without needing to complete any quests in the corresponding Act. This is a significant improvement. However, the interruption still stands for first-time playthroughs. Consequently, I still can not recommoned Fangs of Asterkaarn for first-time playthroughs. Note that the frustration is not caused by simply requiring content in the game to be completed in a certain chronological order. Instead, the frustratrion is caused by the Fangs of Asterkaarn campaign initally indicating, via becoming accessible at the beginning of Act 4, that completion of earlier content is not required, but then presenting a progression-breaking requirement (of earlier content completion) late in the campaign. The above fix is an improvement to the relevant design decision, but does not fully address the issue that causes the frustration. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*Original issue follows:* POTENTIAL BUYERS BEWARE: there is a very frustrating, progression-breaking moment in the campaign of Fangs of Asterkaarn. It is intended, and can not be skipped. The Fangs of Asterkaarn content, comprising Act 7 of the game, may be started at the beginning of Act 4. However, at a certain point in the Asterkaarn compaign, you will be sent back to complete content from earlier acts. If you do not complete the content from earlier acts then you will not be able to finish the Asterkaarn dlc. In particular: 1) You will be sent back to fetch an item from mobs in early Act 5. However, to open up the required area, you must complete Act 4. There is no way to skip this. Act 4 must be completed before you can get the required item. 2) You will also be sent back to retrieve an item from a zone in Act 6. However, this zone only becomes accessible after playing through nearly all of the main quests in Act 6. There is no way to skip this. Nearly all of the main quests in Act 6 must be completed before you can get the required item. There is no way to skip the requirements in Points (1) and (2) above. Your progression through the campaign of Fangs of Asterkaarn will be innterrupted, and you must complete the above steps to proceed. Each is time consuming, and presents a jarring halt to the campaign of Fangs of Asterkaarn. This is not a bug. It is fully intended by Crate in their design of the dlc. It is a very frustrating, surprising, and disappointing design decision. I can not recommend the Fangs of Asterkaarn dlc unless this design is changed. If you wish to buy and play all of the Fangs of Asterkaarn dlc, then make you sure you have finished all previous content on all characters you wish to play. Otherwise, be ready for a time consuming, jarring, and unavoidable diversion in each play through of this dlc.
I would love to play new expansion - Thanks to freezing it's unplayable No way I can recommend this
Critters got buffed and broke world building and scaling. They basically have 100% resistances because in a game about death and destruction they couldn't comprehend seeing animals die. It genuinely begs the question as to why the survivors don't train critters or control them with magic to fight the monsters given they can survive a level 100 player's damage like it's nothing. The feminization of Nordic cultures is offensive. I know things are rough for the new DLC area but come on with the feminist strong women stereotype. It doesn't make sense and it's so out of place. This is supposed to be a fantasy setting, not DEI workplace approved by human resources. This game now feels like path of exile but simpler and going down the woke slide at a slower rate. So basically there's no point in supporting these devs since they'll eventually pump out DEI products in a few years.
The complaint about the balance are totally valid. The difficulty is extremely spikey and it's often totally unclear why. I'll activate a totem and have no trouble killing every "hero" enemy fast, taking very little damage, then spend ages draining the life pool of some random normal enemy or get instakilled by a cluster of white mobs. I'm still having fun, though - I think the Mixed review is too harsh. The new environments look and feel amazing - they really raised the bar.
I bought Grim Dawn twice. Once on GOG, and again on Steam. I bought it again on Steam for the express purpose of trying to get 100% achievements. I did not enjoy, and do not recommend buying this DLC. There are a thousand issues and if you want to read through them, browse the forums. At the end of the day the only thing that matters to me is that I didn't have fun.
I recommend. Having said that... Its worth getting if you like Grim Dawn and just want to play a bit more, but its the weakest of the dlc. Most of my time was spent leveling a new character to 100 through the early campaign, and the quest that took me the longest had me backtracking through old area's. The new class is cool tho, and new bosses and QoL are always nice.
