Chieftain Gruldir of the Dread Wastes This is the only reason I give this a negative review. If you are this stupid to make a mob like this, I have bad news for you.
If this is the last DLC for this game, I can't begin to express how disappointing the note they finish this game on is. Back in 2022, this game was not only one of my favourite games that got me through a hard time, but also the game I've put the longest amount of time into (and still is). Largely because I played two player with a friend. This didn't have to be particularly good for me to enjoy it and to be fair, there were a few moments that were pretty cool. The highlight was going up against a super powerful nemesis in a cave that we totally underestimated and then he followed us all over the cave and killiing off both my incredibly powerful friends. Twice. I only didn't die because I was a necromancer who had the luxury of keeping my distance and then when it got too much, I ran away. With my minions/pets trying to start a fight like an overly confident little yap dog against a dog several times its size. We needed to come up with a strategy against someone who was clearly stronger than us. It was very exciting and hugely satisfying when we won. I also liked they added more to the cruicible. I liked the tombs - reminded me of Diablo but like the caves wished there was more. I did enjoy one of the chaos tears that went down multiple levels - that was fun. But those few moments are dwarfed by the DLC largely being in a broken state. Two friends and I gathered our top tier builds and took to the DLC and it started a bit iffy when I had absolutely no idea where to go to even start the DLC. 10'ish hours we got to the top of the world, the nemesis/boss didn't show up and now the game is suck in a very unsatisfying end. Unless that IS the end. Which is worse. Unless there were other things we needed to do which was unclear. And there was one or two missions that I had to look up how to finish because they weren't clear, either. I read at least one mission required to go to different DLCs to finish which is where we gave up. Because even worse than that, missions would show up for the host and I, but only sometimes for all three of us - even when we're all in the same spot. And then sometimes the host would finish the mission with us there and neither the other friend and I would show we finished the mission - just the host. And one of the missions was to go get wood from a particular tree. I clicked on the tree with everyone there and got the wood but neither the other two could get the wood themselves or have the game acknowledge the team has the wood. So they can't finish the mission. Unless they go back and do it separately in a different time maybe? My final complaint is the whole thing became no better than a walking simulator because the loot drops were poor and apart from maybe a handful of battles, wasn't particularly challenging. There was some stuff that WOULD have been good, but the loot was level 94 and there hasn't been enough new content in this DLC for me to ever try it out. Or maybe there was but it was poorly put together. I have finished the core game with the 2 other DLCs 3 or 4 times with different builds each time, gradually increasing the difficulty to keep it interesting - that was great. And while I was incredibly excited at the beginning of this DLC, I finished it feeling confused, deflated and bummed out that even worse than not knowing if I actually finished everything is not caring.

Bought this DLC thinking it would be a good time to return to the game with my friend, however we discovered not only that the game changed a lot during the years we were not playing (for worse) but also that dev doesn't really care about pushing updates for GOG version preventing crossplay due to version mismatch.
Fangs of Asterkarn is the final and by far the biggest expansion Grim Dawn has to offer. To make it clear: I dont think most of the negative comments or review regarding this expansion are justified or make any sense, and I will tell you why that is. There are also people saying: "This expansion is incomplete". Total BS, if you ask me. We still get 2 massive roguelikes dungeons soons, as we have in the other expansions, which was also clearly communicated by Crate multiple times. To start with a few critical points: - This expansion can feel overwhelming at first, bc some areas are huge. And there are more quests this time, where the solution isnt obvious at first. But that feeling will change after a few playthroughs as it has before in the other DLC's (think about Forgotten Gods). - Some enemies and bosses are a bit overpowered, but since the expnasion has just launched 1,5 ago, some tweaks and changes will come and they need their time. (Although it has been communicated very clearly by Crate that this is an endgame expansion with content for harder challenges and characters. So i think ppl should just chill and be more realistic when it comes to such critics. - the secret quest is definitely too crazy to figure out on your own, in the other expansions it was very difficult too, but the hints were enough to solve it. But the way to get their this time atleast leaves you invested for some time. The big positives: + This expansion delivers the biggest amount of content in comparison to all other Expansions, also when you look at the price, being almsot the same by twice the world size.... So how can anyone complain about that.. ? + The scenery of Asterkarn is beautiful, atmospheric and serves a full immersion of the world of cairn. + The new Beserker mastery is a great addition and in its current state is one of the strongest masteries available, It also brought something uniique and new with the transformations and the Onslaught mechanic, which helps other masteries aswell. Furthermore is can be combined perfectly with any mastery and allows almost every playstyle to the fullest. + Hundreds of new items enable even more playstyles, also helping out older base game builds and strategies. Possibilies are nowadays almost unlimited, which pushes creativity and fun even more. + The new Ascendant Mode and the Altar helps making Endgame characters more powerful and give them a better challenge after reaching lvl 100, and serves as a good alternative to the Shattered Realm in FG. +This whole expansion filled the void of a snowthemed Act and the lack of the Chtonian Threat after AoM and FG, so now the whole universe feels complete, and every damage and enemy type is now represented evenly throughout the game. Conclusion: All in All this expansion is great and secures the legacy of one of the best ARPG's ever made. (I will also not accept this new expansion being trashed by people that have no clue whatsoever about the game or just randomly throwing in made up ciritcs that make no sense at all , fr.) We can all be happy that Crate even considered making this expansion and investing all their time to serve us something great at this high standard.
game crashes in frostveil highlands at stairs ..had no issues with purifier there like 2 days ago, but now my dervish is stuck there :/
The base game with its first two DLCs is in my Top 3 ARPGs of all time, but this DLC just doesn't click with me. The new region feels too large and empty, the quests are pretty lame and some of the new enemies are way too overtuned. What I dislike the most is the decision to have this weird tie-in with the other two DLCs, just to (basically?) force the players to also buy the other two DLCs. That is very questionable (to put it nicely). I don't really regret my decision to buy the new DLC, because after a 1000 hours in Grim Dawn I just wanted to show some love for the makers of this game. But if you have never played Grim Dawn before and wanna check it out, then my recommendation is to not buy this DLC. Instead just buy the base game and then if you like it, get the first two DLCs (Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods). Unless there's a Steam Sale, then just grab it all of for like 12 EUR. And then if you played through all of that and still want more, then (and only then) get Fangs of Asterkarn.
A brillant final farewell DLC to arguably one of the top 5 single-player ARPG on Steam. The Good: - Lots of content in new gears, augments, monster infrequents, crafting materials -New lore -New powerful class option -New area to explore and superbosses -New game mechanics and quests The Meh: -Some maps are too large and empty -Some unfinished voiceover -Requires revisiting all previous DLC dungeons to complete certain steps. Overall, as a series veteran, I give it a 8.5/10!
