Not great, but it is fine and I enjoyed it - much like Greedfall 1 rather rough and unpolished. The creators put much love into the world building and I personally liked the Dragon Age: Origin kind of combat. All in all it reminded me quite of Dragon Age 2: while playing through you realize a bunch of "wasted" potential due to weak or lazy or rushed storytelling (why does everyone just leaves their sinister plans and confessions scribbled down somewhere? why are secretive meetings always in a warehouse?) or flat dialogue. Much of the story lacks depth and engagement and feels somewhat forced and one also realizes that there is much cut content. Though there are also moments the story and the companions really shine. Playing through I found myself somewhat saddened at the thought of "what could have been?" if the developers have had more time and resources to properly finish it ... All in all, the story, the characters and the world were interesting enough to keep me going. If you are looking for "light" entertainment and if you do expect something between Dragon Age Origin or Dragon Age 2 or if you already played the first Greedfall: I am sure you will be enjoying it. It really feels like an old school dark fantasy RPG - even though somewhat unpolished and raw, but fine and and enjoyable though :)
What Nacon did to the devs at Spiders was truly criminal; Nacon gutted Spiders as a studio because they were poor at managing their own finances. Greedfall: TDW by itself is quite a good RPG. It's not BG3, but both the cast and setting are very unique and well-designed in terms of worldbuilding. The main cast of companions have a lot of heart in them, and it's a damned shame that some of the romance options (Fausta, my beloved) were cut due to Nacon's mismanagement. The new tactical combat will be an acquired taste if you have played the first Greedfall (which uses a free action combat system), but you'll fit right in if you've played FF12, Pathfinder, or any MMO with a tab-target based combat system.
The story is okay, not great, but okay and weaker as GreedFall. The battle system is really weak and the gameplay and quests are stiill riddled with bugs. rip. :(
I'll miss Spiders, but this is a bug-ridden, inconclusive game. Every cutscene has characters snapping into positions, awkward camera angles that don't focus on the character that's speaking, characters' hips vibrating, clothes clipping, it's a mess. Characters are okay, good voice acting, pretty neat graphics, but the story's lackluster. I'm guessing they'll pull a DA: Trespasser and finish the story in the DLC? Also, a note to devs everywhere, no one looks at a new release and thinks "Wow, a new game, I hope I get to kill dogs in it and hear them whine as they die!" If there's an exception to this, they don't deserve to be catered to.
Plays very well. I am so impressed that they created a whole language just for the game. I have not gotten terribly far in the story, as of yet, but I can already tell I will enjoy it a lot.
Solid one, but definitely not worth full price. on scale from 1 (absolute disaster) to 10 (Absolute perfection) i would give it a 6/10.
Ok, so I did complete the first Greedfall and have come far into the second one. Also I have played almost all RPGs since Bards Tale in 1988 on Commodore 64 so I know what I like and what there is out there. First, Greedfall 2 is much better than the reviews disclose. The only problems are some bugs but I have not found any game breaking bugs so far or crashes. I was totally hooked by the game the first 20 hours until the whole world opens up. Very nice story and development. It is nice to level up the characters and improve the gear. Exploration is however not rewarding at all after awhile. You realise there are no hidden powerful objects at all. I saved all my talent points until I was around level 26 and then begun investing them into crafting which I found gave enough advantages. Even though you will encounter a lot of locked chests they never contain anything really unique or good. Investing in stealth also seems worthless since I have so far managed to sneak around everywhere where I have to. Alchemy is so boring and diplomacy is seldom used to warrant its investment. Having said that: + Graphics is very nice + Character development + Voice acting is generally good + Story + Exploration until the midgame + Acceptable loading times and you can save everywhere. + Combat gives very few XP and story completion gives a lot. It usually is the other way around in RPG:s. + Money is never a problem. - Soundtrack is forgettable except for the leadsong which is quite nice - Too many skills with too small effects - Exploration never yields good enough items - Very limited amount of side quests - Generally dead cities, nothing to do except main story - Very linear story with few branches - Too strong woke elements in story where it is obvious todays values have been implmemented in characters at the time.
Rating = -3/10 Cost per hour = $2.02 -3 for being priced over $50. -1 for having poor performance even with DLSS enabled. -9 because it keeps crashing. ** If this game simply worked, I would have given it a score of 6/10. The minimum expectation for any game is that it runs smoothly. Especially when it has a premium price.
I enjoyed this game a great deal. I thought the story was very good. The combat system is different from the first game. The first game was action based and this one is real time with pause. There are a few combat choices allowing the player to decide how much control they want to have over the party during combat. Overall, I think this is a solid game and I recommend you give it a try if you enjoy party based RPGs.
