About
Screeps: World is an open source MMO strategy sandbox game for programming enthusiasts. You control your colony by writing JavaScript code that operates 24/7 in the huge persistent online open world.
Your colony can harvest resources, build units, conquer territory, trade with other colonies. As you conquer more territory, your influence in the game world grows, as well as your abilities to expand your footprint. But beware, multiple players aiming for the same territory may lead to conflict!
Screeps is developed for people with programming skills. Unlike some other RTS games, your units in Screeps can react to events without your participation – provided that you have programmed them properly. And, unlike other MMO, you do not have to play Screeps constantly to play well. It is quite enough just to check once in a while to see if everything goes well.
You play by writing JavaScript AI which controls your units 24/7 even while you're offline.
Units of all players coexist in the same real-time huge persistent world and obey the same rules.
Many kinds of units, base building, mining resources, territory control, economy, manufacturing, transporting, logistics, trading—all the attributes of a real strategy game which you need to program!
The better your scripts, the better your game—irrespective of the time played. Your creeps will mine, build, defend, and conquer as you just work, sleep, or walk your dog.
Only basic programming skills are required. However, if you are a pro developer, now is the chance to put your skills to the limit!
Edit your scripts from the in-game editor, or using your favorite external IDE.
Other languages are supported via WebAssembly: C/C++, Rust, TypeScript, Go, C#, F#, Kotlin, Swift, D, Pascal, Zig, the list is growing.
Permanent MMO access with 20 CPU limit included in the starter package. Unlock your full CPU in your account on the official server by purchasing a Lifetime CPU unlock or an in-game CPU Unlock consumable item (can be bought by in-game credits).
If you don't want to buy an unlock, that's fine—there is a standalone CPU-limited world shard where you can compete with other "CPU-locked" players on equal terms.
Host your own server, modify games rules and play with your friends via LAN or on the Internet. The server is an open source project.
The game is slow-paced (from 2 seconds to 5 seconds per game tick depending on a world shard where you start playing), since it allows you to debug your scripts in the real-time world. You can use your private server to develop and test with fast pace (up to 10 game ticks per second).

I've enjoyed playing this game quite a bit. It can feel daunting at first if you haven't programmed before but it's helped me a lot. I would recommend reading through the API and documentation because it provides a lot of useful starter code for your bot. The screeps community discord is very active where you can chat, ask for help, or get updates on conflicts around the map. It's an RTS game where you claim areas on the map and you gather resources, trade with others, fight or form alliances, or just keep to yourself and develop at your own pace. The catch though is that you have to write code for every unit, structure, or resource in the game so that they can function and interact with each other and everything persists while you're offline. Your rooms can get destroyed but the main enjoyment is watching your code base grow and prosper into a more advanced empire over time. Every new update you create for your empire is exciting Since the game requires you to write code, it takes time to have a decent empire but if you're someone who wants to sit down and solve challenges and become a better programmer or just learn to code, this game is fantastic. The main screeps world version of the game is all you need to play. You can join shard 3 (kind of known as the beginner shard) where you won't be at any disadvantage because the CPU is maxed at 20. If you decide to venture past shard 3, you will probably want the lifetime CPU unlock so you don't reach your CPU limit which causes your units to not act during that tick until your CPU regenerates back. Although some players have 30+ rooms with just 20 CPU, I can only manage about 5 before running into issues but you won't have to worry about that problem anyways when you first start out. Screeps Arena is separate from the MMO. Think of it as quick matchmaking where your bot competes against another player. And then seasons are where players spawn in and compete against each other based on the season's objectives. Each one lasts about 2 months and may have about 40-50 players depending on how many people decide to participate. You can buy season tickets with in-game currency or you can buy them with real money. Your bot can also technically make you real money by generating pixels (an in-game currency) and using them to create decorations and then selling those decorations on steam. Each decoration may be a couple cents to a couple dollars depending on how rare it is. Overall it's a really cool and unique game It's a perfect game to play and come back to after a few months on and off. If your economy is really strong, you can get a room to max level in a few days.
I love the concept and probably I would love the game too, but I can't play it. It seems a great and funny way to practice some javascript, BUT I find no option for UI scaling in this game. I need UI scaling so I can play it without hurting my eyes (yeah, I know I can zoom, but zooming the screen makes it have worse resolution and it is annoying to do). For now I will downvote it, if it ever gets an UI scaling option I will probably change this review to an upvote, because the game seems pretty cool. Thanks for reading!
I'm already hooked in the game, and the hours on steam do NOT reflect the time spent on Visual Studio Code, the weekends lost in the documentation, the LAMENTATIONS I had when witnessing the carnage of my rooms. This game is GREAT, and I love it!
Awesome game. Very balanced and deep gameplay. The UX could use a bit of improvement, but overall, very very good game. Anyway, if you are new to the game, go to Discord and join the community, it's a long road, people spent years playing it and still get no where, so let's go together. I am new too, just a few months in. Cheers
very addicting, especially if you're a programmer would highly recommend
A very fun sandbox coding game, various different in-game systems to tackle most of which can be done at your own pace or ignored if desired. Devs have recently stated their headed back to working on it after a hiatus. Best played from the ground up and not with a pre-packed bot, imo.
Online programming MMO, write scripts to control robots and build rooms to defend or attack nearby players. Been on and off playing this for years and had a lot of fun. Came back to playing full-time in the recent seasonal mode (first time I've played a seasonal world) which has all players start from fresh with a unique objective during the season, had way more fun starting over than expected competing against other players from scratch in real time. Fully recommend to anyone interested in programming or like the sound of a competitive online MMO base building game with real time attacking and defending.
I don't like traditional MMO's, they're very grindy, and require you to spend hours doing the same repetitive task. Because of this, many people use bots to do the grind for them. Screeps is great for prigrammers who like the idea of an MMO, but don't want to do the grinding. You can do smaller scale bases, only a room or 2 big, then scale up from there. You can stop your automation at using buildings you placed, or have your screeps place their own to allow for automatic expansion. even if you die and have to restart, it's ok, because you still have all your opd code, just pick a new room and have your screeps rebuild from there. The only downside for me is JavaScript being the default, but even that is replacable, since screeps compiles your code into webassembly to run it, so you can use a community made compiler for many languages, including python. Overall, great game, there is a steep learning curve if you're learning JavaScript as you play like I am, but through a combination of modifying code snippets from the tutorial, and asking questions on the discord, it can be a really fun time.
This is probably the ultimate coding game. If you're into coding for fun, and into MMO PvP, this is the premier game for sure.
Сейчас игру без VPN покупать нет смысла. В России игра просто не работает и это при том, что сама игра доступна в магазине. А пока хрен разберёшь, это разрабы соединение для русскоязычных пользователей обрезали или просто игра попала под блокировки РКН-а
