Eurojank at its best. If you like openworld RPGS like ElderScrolls and even The Witcher you will like this game, well with some caveats. I played it in Unreal Beta fully so i recommend you switch to that. look up how to do that its easy. The game itself is one of those hard to get going. kind of like the recent Kingdom Come games. You will struggle at first but before you know it you will be wildly overpowered, well at least untill the boss fights. The game has a lot of pros and a few cons however. Pros: Big open world that is fun to explore. Interesting story with twists and turns. Some replayability with different skill paths and even story paths. A great feel of pregresion as you level up. Optional tasks that you can do just for the fun of it or for fun rewards. Respects your intelligence, you wont be told where to go and how to do everything. CONS: Jank, the combat will take a bit to get used to. the progression is fun but it also adds some break from reality where you cant hurt certain enemies because you are too weak or vice versa, for example once you get good armor wolves dont even hurt you which imo should never be the case. you can easily break quests if you dont go aboout it the "correct path" SAVE A LOT. i had to use a guide a few times to see what the game wanted me to do because i did stuff in the "wrong" order. The game overall was a blast and i kept coming back to it and looking forward to doing more. I highly recommend it if you can handle the jank and only if you play it in the UNREAL beta mode. Side note, i recommend you keep a windows notepad with important characters and their locations and their services because it will save you looking it up online or the frustration of trying to remember who is who and what they do.

Прикольно, но это конечно в нынешних реалиях слабо, я играл не в оригинал в анреалбету, она тут ставиться, через выбор версии. Так что управление у меня норм было, но даже так это конечно игра, которая даже с первым Рисен не сравниться. Если вы не фанат ещё со времён выхода, то для вас это будет слабой игрой. Но я не могу не отметить вайб, он просто ЕБЕЙШИЙ. Мне супер понравилось бегать в игре, просто бегать по ней, я хз как это описать. Советую всем, но думаю можно и Ремейк сразу оценивать. Сюжет слабость, но с душой. Без детских вайбов, ибо их нет, могу оценить на 6/10, но эта 6 крепкая и в сравнении со всеми играми, которые я играл. Так что если 25 летняя игра имеет оценку 6 в сравнении с нынешними мастодонтами, то это ♥♥♥♥♥ достижение.

After finishing the Gothic remake, I went back to the 25 year old original with the Steam Deck. And the community has provided some truly excellent mods. The controller support mod alone is worth its weight in gold. There are also some useful graphics mods. But we don't want to talk about mods here, we want to talk about the game Gothic itself. And oh boy, did I miss it! The remake really rekindled my desire to play the original title. And I have to say, the 25-year-old Gothic holds its own. The dialogue is funnier and more serious, and the lockpick system is significantly better. The music and sound effects complete the package. Sure, the graphics aren't exactly overwhelming anymore, but personally, that doesn't bother me. Mods in the Workshop can also help with that. It would also be nice if there could finally be a cloud save function. Nevertheless, spending time in the colony is still fun. Gothic is like Ocarina of Time on the N64 for me. Pure enjoyment, and all of it portable on your handheld. If all that isn't enough for you, you should check out the Unreal Engine fan mod. It's always fun to try out different classes. Mage, archer, two-handed weapon, or maybe the crossbow? The choice is yours. I also recommend the Workshop Launcher Optimizer to use.

Я не осилил инвентарь и вышел из игры в первом заходе. Игра хоть и старая и топорная, но интересные фишки есть, где-то даже можно брать врагов и квесты хитростью. Своими вайбами чем-то напоминает моё прохождение хоббита в детстве. Пока что больше всего бесят беготня с одного конца карты в другой и иногда не активированные скрипты, по типу не работающей лебедки, но в целом игра хорошо состарилась, до сих пор играбельно, просто перед заходом пару фиксов и русификацию поставил (это было сделать проще, чем освоить инвентарь). Как допройду, дополню отзыв).

Great game, for several reasons I prefer this over the remake, and for several different reasons I prefer the remake to this game. I think both versions have their pros and cons and the experience is different enough to make playing both worth it.

Might be calling myself out, but this is peak savescumming tier. I enjoyed the game a lot but I think without savescumming, I would have quit early on. Enemy difficulty fluctuates and you never know if you're walking into a fight where you're going to be one shot or be one shotting. But the story and world interaction is pretty interesting. It's old so it's going to have its quirks but if you put in the effort, it's a fun experience. It's also fairly buggy. I played it with and without mods (majority with) and I experienced game breaking bugs in each. As long as you keep enough saves, you should be safe.

An absolute classic that helped redefined the genre, mainly in the openess and freedom of things, from the world to quests and story. I've been trying to set it up on Linux. Its a bit of a pain, doesnt work straight out of the box, you'll need to subscribe to the beta and choose the workshop version. Then go to the workshop and install the d3d mod and you're good to go.
