The Kingdom of Myrtana has been invaded by a relentless horde of orcs. To ensure no one escapes, the King commands his most skilled mages to erect a magical barrier. But something goes terribly wrong, and the magic spirals out of control, trapping everyone inside. The prisoners rebel, transforming the mine into a lawless territory ruled by the Colony’s most brutal inmates.
Now, the King must negotiate with these new rulers, as tensions rise among the mine's factions. Amidst the chaos, the arrival of an unknown prisoner will change everything …

Apparently very loyal to the original game in both good and bad. Having just finished the game, I will heartily recommend it just for the first couple of chapters. The worldbuilding is exquisite. You start as a nearly useless nobody who will barely survive a 1on1 scrap with the weakest of woodland critters. You need the help of people around you, but they don't really care all that much about you. So you got to make yourself useful. Surviving and becoming stronger requires determination, using your brain and getting to know the world, and being smart about some of the more thuggish NPCs. Gameplay mechanics like combat are decent. Nothing special, but nothing irritating either. Unfortunately, once you've gotten stronger and have moved up in the world of Middle-Earth: The Oz, the story starts to move away from the prison camp politics and its people, and into more general fantasy adventures of a hero uncovering long lost secrets and saving the world. There is nothing wrong with this in itself, as many amazing stories have been made of such setups. It is just obvious that most of the effort in writing, worldbuilding and NPCs reacting to storybeats went into the early game. Late game becomes more of a jogging simulator of fetch quests, with little interesting dialogue or lore to justify it all. Occasionally something will happen in the world of the prison camp that shakes things up, but it feels like an afterthought. Like the developers woke up on a tuesday and went "oh right, maybe we should do something with the prisoner factions to make the place feel alive still." Still, overall a very enjoyable game. Early game 9/10, overall 7/10

good
The visuals, audio and story is absolutely awesome. HOWEVER, the gameplay is far from desired and thousand miles from enjoyable. I would recommend to PASS THIS. Difficulty is insane. Game becomes endless try and reload system, as soon as you managed to advance your character a bit, everyone else just becomes 10x more powerful. This is so far from the original game which was just the opposite. Was challenging enough without causing frustration. This? I sincerely doubt developers tried to play this.
While I did not play the original game on which this remake is based i can say with confidence that this is an excellent game if you like sword and sorcery fantasy games with deeper than usual attention to magic you will probably like this . Ice magic freezes water, fire magic can light torches and campfires and transforming into various animals and beasts has a multitude of advantages. the game can move slowly, mods make it better and it isn't as great as it could be (no character customization and sorcery could be much deeper) but all in all you could do much worse. worth the price.
Unfinished, unoptimised mess. Absolutely stunning maps, character and creature designs, paired with clunky, bad interface and controls, very mediocare writing and barely any improvements over the original with exception of visuals, which runs as badly on PC as on PS5. Unnecessary lore changes to main plot line, while leaving the side character and sidequests just as plain and one-note as original. Mysteries and unfinished content from original have been removed instead of fleshed out, in favour of providing a more eventful but less coherent main storyline. The shining beacon of potential - Quentin and his camp were given a stunning location and nearly no content. Very disappointed, after waiting for so long we got a game in essentially beta stage, and a promise of future updates. I'm not very hopeful for this one though, what's left is to wait 6 years until Gothic 2 Remake comes out.
