It's an interesting game visually, but if you get this expecting it to be like Northern Journey you're going to be disapointed. The gameplay very samey and basic for the 6 hours i played, with your upgrades being only defense and weapon upgrades. There is almost no visual hit feedback so dont even realise if you get hit or not. It has alot of wide open areas with nothing to find in them other than extra enemies and maybe a book you can read. Do not play on Hard mode the game is simply not balanced for it.
very good game kinda like northern joyurney but maybe not as good still goos pls play. BUT on the final boss if you kill the red kemali you cant get arrows and i didnt know on the first time since i always kill the kemalis. this kinda bad design pls fix or something.
Very fun adventure game with simple but tight fight mechanics, fun puzzles, and nice world building.
I hate to give negative reviews to indie games, but this is just not it for me. Goldenheart is a game that failed to spark me any interest into the world, story, characters, progression and even its own mechanics. Its aesthetic holds it not by hand but by a leash - High contrast vegetation that makes everything seem like an item, lack of any sort of even a slight of reward for exploration or fight, simply nothing is interesting. Fighting mechanic on its own is FINE. But fighting the enemies themselves is an utterly annoying waste of precious time, much like exploration overall. Enemies that latch onto you, enemies that have too few health but are still annoying, it feels like there is not a single well done fight here. Exploring the map feels like an absolute chore. And going to hard to reach places, you'd figure there is SOME reward to going up this path up this hill, right? I mean, there is a bunch of vegetation showing a way, right? Nope. Everything feels absurdly frustrating to do. NPCs feel uninteresting, say nothing that makes me want to speak to them, and all feel kinda the same. So it was really hard to even have any interest in understanding the NPCs and the lore throughout the game, even when I met an important NPC (Which blabbed for WAAAAY too long). The only dopamine hit I had was finding a ladder after a WAY too long and excruciating walk, only to be met with: - The same boss I fought before, right by the ladder - Going up the ladder, finding nothing, and only finding the way forward after giving up Overall it was an experience that I did not expect. It feels like Skyrim without the fun mechanics (like fighting, looting, exploring, finding treasure), good storytelling and characters that feel unique and interesting from the go. My point is not to compare it to a AAA title, but to show the possible ways this game could have gone to, which it has not.
Great game overall ... but some of the boss fights, especially the final boss, are just mega badly designed and not fun at all.
It's peak
Goldenheart has charm and wanderlust aplenty. But also contains too many obnoxious or frustrating moments to recommend it to a casual audience, but if you are a true connoisseur, and if you’ve a tolerance for such things – or even an appreciation for them – this might be the game for you. It worked for me. (Just play it on easy)
I'm a sucker for these kinds of games but past the 'charm' it doesn't look, sound, or feel very good to play. Nothing particularly original or clever shown from the start. With no experience or resource system, there isn't any reason to fight most enemies. The rest seems to be zelda-style block puzzles, and an entire system for memorizing symbols, which tells me its gonna be copy pasted a lot. Combat has no feedback or satisfaction. The 'lock-on' system is clumsy with mouse and keyboard, but is the only way to dodge. The NPCs don't look or seem very interesting. This all could have been saved by a killer soundtrack, but unfortunately its less catchy and more droning and subdued, like most amateur OSTs.
This game is a nightmare for arachnophobes.
