About
One fine day, in a remote island community off the coast of Maine, nine cats wake up to discover that their humans have disappeared. To survive, they must band together to uncover the mysteries of their storied island home - and ultimately, it is up to them to decide:
Are the humans worth bringing back?

- Explore a truly open world - The entirety of the island will be accessible, with each building containing a hand-crafted interior. No "Invisible Walls," or buildings with no purpose.
- A realistic weather & tidal system - From foggy nights, to morning downpours, to clear, blue skies - you never know what those southeast winds might bring in - and you'll never want to miss a beautiful sunset!
- Nine Playable Cats - Each with their own stories, preferences, skills, & weaknesses - as you get to know them, you'll know which one might be the best for a certain job!
- A commitment to using only HUMAN-MADE content - We want to provide our players with a human-made experience, from beginning to end!

- Delve into a rich, 200-year alternate history - Learn family lineages, study old maps, and read books & letters better left hidden.
- Your decisions matter! - How you approach life after humanity will decide how the game plays out in the end.
- Replayability - Three different possible endings (and perhaps more!)

- Experience a hand-crafted world - From the very beginning, we strove to create a world that isn't just "that place between mission points." The island might be small, but there is a LOT to discover and re-discover!
- Original, adaptive soundtrack - From the mood of the cats, to the time of day, to the weather, the soundtrack changes. Each player's musical experience will be different!
- An expanded emotional palette - Games are a wonderful storytelling - and all stories are not happy ones.

- Relax! - Sometimes, you just want to hang out with the cats and watch the sun set. A mix of casual/slow gaming.
- Meet new friends - and new enemies! - The humans might be gone, but old power structures remain. Currying favor with the deer might make the Seagulls less willing to talk!

Peace Island began in November of 2017, when a Eric (a line cook) and Laura (a care worker) noticed a severe lack of rich, single-player, story-driven experiences in a game world where the major publishers were intent on developing the next open-world shooter.
They knew it wasn't going to be easy - developing a video game of this size typically requires dozens of people and significant funding. They just had themselves, and whatever pocket change they could set aside after bills and rent. They worked on the project in whatever few hours they could set aside outside of their sleep and regular jobs.

The world took shape, slowly but steadily. Occasionally, they could convince a friend to donate a piece of artwork, or save enough to hire a coder for an hour or two to help build the first, simple systems.
From the very start, emphasis was put on crafting a beautiful world- one that would not simply serve as "that space between one destination and another," but as a place the player wants to linger in for just perhaps one more sunset.

After two years of slow but steady progress, Peace Island "went viral" in the fall of 2019, finally allowing the project to expand beyond a single bedroom, an outdated computer, and a few notebooks.

Since then, the Peace Island project has expanded to include a a core team of 7, and an expanded talent pool of over 40 creatives from around the world.
As we enter the fist days of our fifth year of development, we are more excited than ever to share the world & story of Peace Island.
OUR COMMITMENT, REGARDING GENERATIVE AI CONTENT:
Simply put: We don't like it. As of now, there are 3 or fewer possible artifact textures/bitmaps within Peace Island that are of AI origin, out of the approximately 3,500 currently used within the game - these are methodically being removed, and replaced with 100% verified human content.
We apologize for this oversight, and sincerely regret any confusion this might have caused, as most of this remaining questionable content was procured from third-party sources, and not properly reviewed before use.

Edit: Due to the developers’ unprofessional attitude and behavior, I would not recommend supporting this game. It’s very clear that the developer cannot handle criticism. If you’re looking for a good game about cats, I would recommend Stray or Little Kitty, Big City instead. I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, but this game is currently a buggy mess and simply not fun in its present state. I also really disliked the controls—they felt unsmooth and awkward, which made the experience frustrating. The game was too glitchy for me to justify keeping it, so I requested a refund. Normally I give games more than 30 minutes before deciding, but my time with this one was genuinely unbearable. I didn’t see a point in forcing myself to suffer through such a rough experience, especially when the unsmooth controls and poorly mixed sounds were already giving me a headache. What makes it more disappointing is that I was genuinely excited to try this game. I absolutely love cats, and the concept is very cute. The story also seems interesting, which makes the current state of the game even more frustrating. I’ll keep an eye on it to see if it improves in the future, but right now it still has a long way to go. I’m glad I chose to get a refund instead of forcing myself to keep playing.
Kickstarted and Patreon'd. Got a contribution mention in the game somewhere that I'd like to go find someday... Loved this project for years, but at this point I very much hope the devs are taking time to get the help they need before continuing. I don't want a refund. I'm not going to refund. Just please talk to someone outside of Discord, Reddit, and Steam Community, and get back on your feet first.
*Update: the Dev just banned me from the discussion with the reason being "Get a refund". Says even more about the character of the Dev. They apparently don't care ro actually fix or even keep the money they made on the game. I would not recommend buying this game, not at least until the Devs quit posting Anti-Trump stuff on the Game's Facebook page and spending their time fighting in the comments instead of actually working on making the game playable. The game is continuously crashing back to Steam, and when it isn't crashing, it's too graphically broken to even attempt to play. It's very sad that they seem to prioritize fighting on Facebook instead of fixing their game.
I'll start off by saying that premature judgements shouldn't be made on this game as (at the time of this review) it is only available for early access and is still in development (for another year according to the plans listed on their game page). That being said, I did have the game refunded after 21 minutes of play due too many bugs associated with the game (overexposed environment, cats stalling, game screen flipped upside down upon gameplay start). As development proceeds closer to full release of the game, I'm more than interested in repurchase as I love cat games and was really looking forward to this one. Just as of right now, gameplay is difficult due to bugs.
So I play a LOT of games and have an exceptionally good computer. I wasnt getting the poor performance everyone else was claiming but this game is a buggy hot mess and that isnt even what the problem is.... When looking online to get some help with the game, oh boy what did I find. The dev(s) of this game are completely insane. You can have your politics and personal opinions but it feels like this dev team's entire purpose of making this game is to have a platform to talk about Trump. They avoid accountability and deflect everything somehow to that. I was getting second hand embarrassment just reading what this team is saying. It's like their entire personality. The game is VERY amateur, could be cute, could be fun, I get the vision. But these devs need mental help and I cannot support that behavior. These guys are stuck in 2016
This game is super buggy and not enjoyable.
I am disappointed -- I have been watching this game for YEARS now, anticipating its release and really excited for the premise and storyline. Unfortunately it completely underdelivered for me. The UX and overall story is albeit nonexistent. The controls are hard to navigate and clunky and the frames freeze up every 15-20 seconds. I redownloaded the game twice and restarted a new game 3x hoping it was just a software glitch or rendering glitch. The software is underdeveloped, the storyline/quests/UX is just not there. I am hopeful for some growth over the next few years because I do think the premise of this game is a good one but has been poorly executed at this stage. Don't purchase this game (yet, I hope) - it isn't worth it at this stage.
I've waited for this game for YEARS. I would check in from time to time to see if its finally been released yet or not, and surprised to see this year they were finally gunna release it! so i bought the game yesterday, and I'm upset but hopeful. 20 bucks for an unplayable game has me upset, but i really like the idea so far. I'm hoping that the devs will get it running smoothly soon, as I've seen that other people have been able to play and are enjoying it. but for me so far, I cant even make it past the powerline part in the beginning. The Other cat im supposed to be following doesnt ever get on the powerline to show me where to follow. and ive tried running a head or just looking around on my own. Im a little frustrated, but like i said...hopeful. I would really like to see and play this game when the get it all worked out. Im proud of what ive seen so far, tho. I know very little about what it takes to build a game and ive heard its just two people working on this, impressive if you ask me.. But dear Devs! please please please dont give up on this and please make it playable.
This game is unplayable. I wish they would have waited longer to release it. I can't even interact with anything as soon as I get into the Mayor's house so I'm kinda just stuck there. Which I understand that is it a early access but I definitely would have been okay waiting longer until you could actually play. I was also SOOOOOOOOOOOO excited and have been watching for years until this released. Cool story and idea, but then I read that the devs can't take ANY constructive criticism and bully anyone who says anything other than positive about this game. They delete any negative comments about the game where they can and ban people who try to give any criticism. They can also be quite political on Facebook. Here are the deleted comments from discord. Someone else got screenshots, I just found the link for it. https://imgur.com/a/hNcuPhm
Right now is very hard to recommend, the movements, the story, the bad optimization, the world. Great idea, but implementation
