Auto combat is a real slog. Really the game in general is super slow and just not what I would expect for a 4x game of this price. Still in EA so I will check back after a while, but at this time doesn't feel fun.
Well, three hours in this is more than enough time for me to tell that I'm going to have a blast with this game. yes, it's no big secret that it's inspired by Conquest of Elysium 4 and it's nowhere near as deep or as satisfying as that game. But CoE4 really is on the absolute verge of what I'm willing to tolerate graphics-wise when it comes to playing games. This game has much of what makes CoE4 great but it also looks mych better. At the time of posting, there are only a few factions but they're different from each other, just like CoE's factions are different. This game has 3D models of the units and they are really well done so it's a mssive upgrade in the visual department over CoE. But it means that it will require much more work to create the models and animate them properly on the battlefield that it would to add a new faction to CoE, especially as that title shares a lot of artwork from Dominions. I started out with the Mercia faction for my first playthrough and it didn't end well. But I immediately set up a second game as the Rat faction and I absolutely love them. After I'm finished with them, I want to try out the Undead faction and then the Chaos faction. They all look like they will play very differently. If you are watching Youtube videos of the game, I should tell you that the game has changed quite a lot since and for the better. The Mercia faction can upgrade some of the treasure sites to provide more Gold or Food. I haven't seen anything like that for the Rats so it's probably something only a few factions can do. Like CoE4, it's a 4x game but it has no diplomacy and there's no tech. You can build upgrades in your cities to unlock new leaders and units like you do in Gladius but the gameplay is otherwise very similar to that of CoE4. You recruiut units in your one base and send out armies led by commanders to explore the world and fight to capture resource sites to boost your economy so that you can build bigger and better armies. And that's pretty much it. You do need to pay attention to how you build your armies and that's where some of the strategy comes from. It's not a great idea to build an army that has a very long front line but little support. Most of your units won't see combat while your centre units get overrun. You can't just buyild one giant army and expect to steamroill everything either as different factions have certain immunities and your fire mages may be ineffective against them or they may dodge all your archers. So army building is an important consideration in this game. Otherwise, combat is entirely hands-off. You just sit back and watch your army do it's job and redesign them to match different foes. The AI is compenent and seems to be able to manage the game quite well. It whipped my butt on my first playthrough but there are no difficulty levels in the game yet so that's to be expected. I'd have been disappointed if it hadn't. It's still in Early Access and I believe a new faction, the Elves is imminent so there's still a lot to look forward to in this game.

I love that fact that this is one of those simple to learn but still strategic games. Super fun. Nice job, dear Fun Wizards.
Man this is a great game! I have always been a fan of Conquest of Elysium 4..the concept, but not the graphics nor its UI. Godking: Master of Rituals is very similar in concept to CoE4 but with much better graphics and and a modern easy to use interface. And because of Godking's streamlined UI, Godking is much easier and way more enjoyable to play than CoE4. Godking is still in EA but it is fleshed out with a lot of content. It is an indie game but has Triple-A quality. I found no bugs at all. It is as stable as a finished product. The only thing that is missing are battle sound effects but they are coming. The game encyclopedia is comprehensive. Everything is explained. There is no tutorial but after watching a few excellent youtube videos by Sabouts I understood how to play: Godking is deep but because of its excellent UI, it's very easy to play, and easy to understand everything.
THIS WAS A DISAPPOINTMENT. Sorta looked like Heroes meets 4x. And me and my chic love to get down on some old school might and magic 3. this seemed like a cool new alternate. this is literally card stack building on a simple map. there is almost nothing to it. no control over units in battle outside of however you arranged your card stack prior to movement/turn. if stack is large then the battle may end mid fight...so steam rolling is funky bc evidently theres a time limit per battle (no timer was visible/available to my knowledge). not much depth in regards to options for play. take this with a grain of salt bc: i also feel my position is a bit skewed bc of what i may have been anticipating HOWEVER my expectations came from their advertising so.... uninstalled after a few faction run-thrus. if you like strategic card stacking on a board with simple features and a casual 4x feel then this is a game for you.
It’s a fun strategy game, more along the line of resource management and watching the ai movements carefully so you can take holds without problem at the moment. My favorite part was able to summon units into battle and not really having a cap. Least in my experience so far since I last played. lol If the creators keep up with communication from the community around them, taking into thoughts and ideas they have, I believe it will turn out to be a good experience for a lot of people who are interested in this sorta game. Also keep in mind it will take time for the creators to put in all the minor details the game needs fleshed out, such as sound effects in combat and unit details to make them unique or at least enough to tell them apart lol.
The fun part of this game is that it has 6 very distinct factions with unique and interesting units that have various features and abilities, and the battle graphics are good so you can see how your selected units play out against the opposing units. There is no unit control during the battle nor of pre-battle formations -- in other words, the computer decides for you how the units in your stack will line up and fight the opposing units. This is an Early Access game, and the developers are still very actively working on the game. The AI is poor and insufficiently aggressive on the world map. Thus far your only setup choices are (i) which faction you will play, (ii) which of 7 godkings will lead your faction (and really there is only one godking suited for any given faction, plus one uber-godking dragon usable by any faction) and (iii) size of map. You always fight the other 5 factions. Hopefully this will all be improved before final release.
this game have allot of potential to be great. the developers are verry active in theyer discord and love feedback. I am personally really looking forward to where this game will be going and can recomend it to anyone that like this type of gameplay.
if you want to play a game like this, go play conquest of elysium of age of wonders.
