Ghostrunner offers a unique single-player experience: fast-paced, violent combat, and an original setting that blends science fiction with post-apocalyptic themes. It tells the story of a world that has already ended and its inhabitants who fight to survive.

Game Of The Year 2020
Good combat, pacing a lil fast, everything is slightly puzzle-ish and less gamesense. Frames pretty good, especially with DLSS.
Truly a masterpiece if skill expression is what your after. I stumbled across Ghostrunner when I saw it in a bundle with Dishonored. Having enjoyed some of Arkane's other games, I decided to give the demo a shot and almost instantly purchased the bundle. If you've played Katana Zero, this feels a lot like a 3D version of that, linear maps filled with enemies that die in one hit, but can kill you just as quickly. The true joy of the game comes from tearing through rooms, your opponent's superior firepower falling swiftly to your unparalleled speed and skill. You'll die a lot, each level outside of story missions and boss fights I usually had around 20-70 deaths on hard mode, but the game puts you back in the action so quickly that you barely notice. One keystroke and your back at the last checkpoint, to the point where it becomes automatic, and you can even set it to be automatic if you'd like. The game can be punishing, but when you finally clear a room you truly feel like you've mastered the game. The story honestly isn't anything to write home about. It has that "just filled out enough to give you a reason to fight" vibe that a lot of 90s and 2000s action games had. But there is enough for Dharma City to feel like more of a real place than just a setpiece, even if the levels themselves are very much gameplay first. The upgrade system is probably one of my favorites in any recent game I've played, while you have your standard "gain more abilities as you progress" side of the game, where it really shines is in the augments to those abilities, which are managed by a series of tetris pieces that you have to lay out on a fixed grid that grows as you progress, with everything from extra dashes to the ability to reflect bullets back at enemies. This not only forces you to make decisions about what upgrades you actually need, it also encourages you to spend time tinkering with arrangements to get the most upgrades out of the space you have. And while the ability to change your loadout at any time can throw a wrench in the otherwise excellent pacing, it also means that your constantly encouraged to pick the upgrades that fit for your situation instead of just choosing one and sticking with it. TLDR: Excellent game for those who enjoy fast paced games with precise timing
