About
She said "GET IN THE CAR, LOSER! I know you're not up to anything this summer, I've got the Sword of Fate, and there's an ancient evil that needs to be sealed away."

Everyone knows the story of how the great hero of legend Agi of Roses fought the Machine Devil and used the Sword of Fate to seal him away for a thousand years. Now, hateful Machine Devil cultist edgelords are spreading terror in order to summon him again, and the Divine Order that rules over our world claims that fighting them before it's too late would be "just as bad as them."
Obviously that won't stand, and that's why three young attendees of the local Academy of Order and one renegade angel from the Divine Order are heading off on a road trip to take the fight to the Machine Devil and his cultists. Will Sam Anon succeed in her mission to seal away evil for another thousand years, hit every diner along the road on the way, AND make it through a single conversation without blushing over her beautiful companions? The toughest challenges she's ever faced in her life lie ahead!
A lesbian road trip RPG by the co-creator of Ladykiller in a Bind about fighting for love and justice in the face of indifference, and "discovering yourself," whatever that means.
Sam Anon
Battle Specialty: Support/Ravage
she/her
The protagonist of the story, your new goth girlfriend, and the titular loser. She has no idea how she got roped into this trip (it's because she is a lesbian disaster who would do anything a pretty girl told her to) but is going to try her best anyway. The healer of the party. Catch her hollering at the Machine Devil about how the void belongs to everyone.
Grace Morningstar
Battle Specialty: Exploit/Destruction
she/her
Solid A student/queen bitch of the Academy, and the current wielder of the Sword of Fate (100% stolen). She fights for what's right and isn't afraid to drop some BIG DAMAGE to back that up. You should be excited and grateful to have had the chance to have admired her before she becomes the new hero of legend renowned throughout the land.
Valentin Vaillante
Battle Specialty: Exploit/Tank
they/them
Grace's cool boyfriend who actually knows how to drive. A former TA at the Academy of Order, currently taking a break to spend the summer smiling in the face of danger. Normally quiet and reserved, but is capable of projecting when it's time to tank in battle for the entire team... or when they come up with a dumb joke.
Angela
Battle Specialty: Exploit/Ravage
she/her
She big. The Thirty-Second Arm of the Divine Order and an actual literal angel, who has decided she can no longer idly stand by like the rest of the order. She's not sure if it's possible for a being operating on her plane of existence to truly relate to humans, but it seems like it would be fun to try. A completely average fighter by intent, since it would disrupt the divine cosmology if she ever unleashed her true power while fighting alongside mortals, even against the Machine Devil.
Active time battle system inspired by classic and modern JRPGs—fight strategically and take advantage of each party member's complementary abilities in order to keep momentum on your side and make it through the gauntlet of fights the road throws at you.
Equipment-based character progression system: each item offers different abilities based off what character you give it to, and can be rearranged on the fly at any time between fights to create completely different party builds.
Genre-defying pop soundtrack by Christa Lee, because how can you say it's battle music if it doesn't even bang?
Visual novel inspired dialogue system allows for optimal "shoving your foot in your mouth while shooting the shit in the backseat" experience.
No sidequests, no maps, no codex entries. Who's got time for that when the world is in peril?!
Girls. Just... girls... you know...??? They're great

Plus, take a break for BATTLE ON THE BIG BOARDWALK, an all-new story chapter playable at any point in the game from act 2 onwards!
Sam and friends take a well-deserved break from fighting evil to unwind at the beach, only to have the Sword of Fate taken by a trouble-making interdimensional sword thief. This is no filler episode—there's no time to waste staring at open toe sandals and exposed cleavage when the fate of the world is on the line!
Unlockable sexy beach outfits for each character to wear in and out of battle, even in the main game!
15 endgame items, each with all new abilities that were too weird, specialized, or technical to make it into the main game. No matter what rank you're at, they'll always complement your current loadout without being overpowered... unless you find the right combinations, of course.
An all new legendary sword with the ability to banish a single enemy to the Shadow Realm per fight, allowing for different strategies than the Sword of Fate gives.
A full length story chapter with shenanigans on the beach, including a boss fight with our toughest enemies yet.

Finally, the adventure continues in THE FATE OF ANOTHER WORLD, an extra-length story chapter that continues the story of Get in the Car, Loser! after where the final boss fight leaves off!
Every 976 years, the heavens pick one warrior to hear the calling and use the Sword of Fate to seal away the Machine Devil. Emily Harmless used to be an activist, a librarian, and a scholar... but she had to put that all aside when she was chosen as that warrior. Is there any hope for her to find peace in the burning ruins of her world after carrying out the heavens’ mission?

Two new temporary party members, Emily and Prince Sam, with new mechanics and new strategies! Emily's Sword of Fate requires you to build up the special Fate Meter to use, but is powerful enough to stagger a boss instantly with a fully charged meter!
New allies, new enemies! Fight five new enemy types that require all new strategies in random encounters, then challenge three new bosses!
Can't you hear it ring? OUR REMIX OF THE SPIRIT OF THE TIMES! Mix it up with an expanded soundtrack, including two new battle music bangers!
An all new progression system—will the party manage to escape the cruel light of the Adversarial Zodiac to regain their power in this burning world? Plus, three all new items that unlock the story of the fallen hero Jo of the Mountain!
The story continues here in our longest chapter yet! Angela must face tough truths about the theology that governs all worlds, and Grace Morningstar meets her hero Emily Harmless. Only the fate of another world can tell us about the fight that lies ahead in our own!
Get in the Car, Loser! is first and foremost a fun adventure story about self-discovery and triumphing over evil in the face of cosmic indifference. But it's also about fighting a reactionary death cult that's sexist, homophobic, racist, transphobic, including domestic abusers and murderers. Sam will have to face evil on her journey, but she will also have to confront her own internal gender anxieties and self-image doubt. There's nothing wrong with stepping back from a fight until you're emotionally prepared for it.

I've recently finished Act 1 and decided now was a good time to leave a review. Let's start with the positives

Visuals and music art great. This is pretty much obvious from the trailer and screenshots, but it bears mentioning
Combat starts off simple, but gets some depth as you reach Act II. Looking forward to see if this becomes more interesting as I get deeper into the game
Some pretty good jokes in the dialogue (however, see my caveat in the next section)
Story and lore are good for the most part. The story is fairly cliche and simple but drives the plot forward well. Later you meet another character that gives you more insight into the more unique inhabitants of the world as well.
That being said, there's a couple things to be mindful of

The dialogue is really cringey in some places and jokes go on for too long. E.g., they will say "hell yeah" or "♥♥♥♥ yeah" back and forth for like 6 lines of dialogue. Honestly could have done with more silence.
The character backstories are not consistent. I suspect that the choices you make in game each provide some additional context that you don't otherwise get and if you choose the "wrong one" you lose this context such that the subsequent dialogue doesn't make sense. For example, Grace and Sam act like they know each other super well but allegedly have only interacted a couple of times/
Both of the above lead to some pretty uncomfortable moments where Grace pretty much insults or gaslights Sam and Sam "blushes" over the attention when to me, there is no reason for her to feel this way and there's also no reason for Grace to be "teasing" her either. If Grace was a man, I think the sentiment about this game would be very different. Similarly, Valentin frequently talks about how hot Sam is even though he also doesn't really know Sam and is also Grace's boyfriend (again though, for some reason both Sam and Grace are fine with this). Are they polyamorous? Cool if so, but this is never really established so it always feels a little uncomfortable.
Overall, I'm still enjoying the game. It seems like I'll unlock more things as I continue and I'm looking forward to how the overall plot develops. Even so, the dialogue and conversations definitely sound like they're trying to fill space and that multiple people worked on different dialogue sections, resulting in inconsistencies about the characters and their relationships to each other. Still, I got it 50% off for $12.50 and I'd say it's certainly worth it at that price.4 ETA: I am changing my review to not recommended because the writing continues to get worse in the ways that I mentioned earlier. The most egregious is that Sam undergoes a huge character development subplot during the middle of the game but this does not change her character or dialogue in any meaningful way, making this plot feel wasted. Similarly, there is basically no plot development throughout the game (I am in act 4, although I haven't yet finished the game). There is basically one "detour" and that's it. Otherwise, it's basically a bunch of talking on the way to fight the ultimate evil. Maybe some people found the dialogue relatable anyway, but despite the characters being generally likeable I got tired of the dynamic between them before the game finished.
I really wanted to like this game. I'm also a big fan of the previous LCAG titles, namely Digltal, Love Plus and Hate Plus, but this just doesn't have the spark of those games. The writing was uninteresting, with sprinklings of poor grammar that just pull me out of the story(Sam has this random bouts of sentences with no punctuation at all), and the characters don't strike a chord with me at all. I freely admit I may not be the target audience, but that doesn't excuse the gameplay from being repetitive, poorly explained, and needlessly convoluted. For the pros, the spritework and presentation is well done, and the music is fine(though the vocals often got on my nerves), I just wish it had better gameplay and story backing it up. Maybe this was meant to be an experimental foray, and if so, maybe it'll be the foundation of something stronger.
Gifted as a joke. Game sucks. Obviously created by groomers.
Can FFXIII-likes just be like, a thing now? Please? Fun and vibrant. Better on the deck/switch or with a controller. An honest reflection of a certain type of person/friend group (very online, very gay, very tumblr) but charming enough if you've got love in your heart for it or simply identify. Politics aren't subtle. Skilled action RPG players will be able to cruise through very easily. I'm an unskilled action RPG lover and found the standard difficulty and challenge fights just right.
I have never played a game that has felt so strongly like someone on the writing team was around during 2010s era tumblr and I mean that entirely as a 100% unironic complement I found myself really loving this game! It has such charm and personality and a very fun gameplay loop that is unique to any RPG I've played! Honestly my biggest complaint is I just wish there was a bit more music variety! (a new game plus mode would also be great!) As much as I love Spirit Of the Times for the 100% banger it is after hearing it for 25 hours straight I think I went a little insane KJFNLKJSADNFJKDF I think maybe inserting a few more battle tracks (or maybe even different remixes of spirit of the times?) for the different areas would be nice, or even giving an option to switch it to an instrumental track similar to the one used for Battle on the Boardwalk! Over all though this game and both its DLCs where super fun and I had a blast with this little gem of game!
I love this game! TL;DR it's a fun little RPG with a combo-based combat system and great story. This is the first game in a long time where I've been actually invested in the story and characters. As someone early in transition, it's got some incredibly relatable content. I've been using this to voice train, which has led to the unintended (but welcome) consequence of talking through my own insecurities. So basically, it's discount therapy. The core gameplay is pretty simple, but interesting! You press a face button to have a party member perform an action, and then they go on cooldown. If you time button presses so that you always have a party member attacking, you get a combo multiplier. Cooldowns change based on what gear you equip (and I think by character?), which rewards knowledge of your builds. As someone who loves doing cool combos/setplay in fighting games and optimizing armor sets in Monster Hunter, this game feels like it was made specifically for me. The only nitpick I have is that the equipment menu is a bit clunky. Equipment pieces you mark as favorites don't seem to be saved after you exit the menu, and it's kind of tough to tell what your other party members have equipped. Swapping gear takes a bit more time than expected because of this, but it's not that bad.
Whips ass. The story is great, the characters rule, and while the battle system is weird and hard to get used to, it's also pretty damn fun. It can be a bit repetitive, but it's short enough that that's not a huge issue. I wish there were more games this queer.
I WON'T FALTER IN THE FACE OF EVIL!
This game's driving, dialogue, and fighting has a fun, fabulous, and flirtatious feeling I ♥♥♥♥ with. The characters feel relatable but real, the story is larger-than-life yet mirrors our own world, and it's all delivered in a road-trip narrative that fits the game's mechanics well. I'm enjoying the game very much!
The battles and the song both get a bit repetitive, but I love the game overall. The vibes are perfect for the queer millennial. Having a blast playing this over the weekend.
