ok game but it gets boring after a couple of hours
WW1 GAME SERIES - The franchise that never ceases to amaze me. Each one of their entries just seems better than the last, constantly improving, not only in graphics, visuals, animations but in gameplay as well. Gallipoli takes place on the Turkish front and will have you either defending or attacking as either the Entente (Australians, British, Indians -FOR NOW, more factions soon to come) or as part of the Central Powers (the Turks). The franchise is known for covering each front of the Great War including the lesser known and nicher battles, this entire front being severely overlooked in its entirety. The maps are offered in day and night variants and are historically accurate, the developers did their outstanding job the same as they did with Isonzo - going to the actual real life location, mapping it out and then basically porting it to the game. This method, although most likely costly in time and resources, ensures that the players get a FEEL that they are in the actual location in the war and fighting the same battles as our ancestors did. The weapons. accurately modelled of course, feature a variety of animations that change depending on the circumstances, stage of the reload or the state of your character. Are you suppressed under constant LMG fire? Injured? Being artillery striked? Your character WILL panic and scramble to reload the gun frantically in the midst of intense combat, his hands will shake, he will have trouble putting the bullets in, bolting and so on...this is most satisfyingly seen, in my opinion, during the reload animation of the revolver since they are reloaded one bullet at a time (your character will have trouble navigating the bullet into the chamber of the revolver). Featuring a variety of classes to prestige each with their unique roles, functions, playstyles and weapons (with there being a prestige system as well), this game will surely keep you hooked, it is fun and rewarding grinding for the character level ups in order to get customization options (which are grounded enough to justify themselves being in the game, sorry COD players, but there's no Lady Gaga cosmetics in this game) as well as the weapon level ups which grant certain buffs (steadier aiming for instance, or becoming familiar with the weapon to the point that you reload it faster to mention a few) The Objectives change ever-so-slightly each match, with the current gamemode that exists offering a support and HQ objective that the attackers need to occupy, sometimes the location will change or you might have to perform a different task upon trying to secure it (either blow up a critical point with dynamite or build fortifications to entrench yourselves in the HQ and finally secure it). This variation of objective tasks, though slight, makes each match feel fresh, discouraging the feeling that each match will play the same. The soundtrack, performed yet again by Bart Delissen is nothing short of amazing and pure eargasm. To the main theme, to the ambient tracks, the eery flutes in the background or the ABSOLUTELY frantic overtime and combat music driving the flow of the battle into a chaotic mess, words cannot describe how much I adore all the tracks. Kivrak Zeybek (one of the critical overtime tracks) is my personal favorite so far, I've dug a bit when it comes to the name of the track and what I've found out is that kıvrak means lively, fast and Zeybek refering to a traditional folk dance genre from western and southwestern Turkey (primarily the Aegean and Teke regions). the two words combined serve the function of the rapid, driving 9/8 or 9/16 asymmetric rhythm and intense tempo are designed to mirror the chaos, tension, and frantic rush of trying to capture or defend the final objective before time completely runs out. Absolute cinema if I do say so myself. I love it when the track names are so well thought out instead of it being blandly called "Overtime". The pricing of the game is more than fair, being currently priced at 29,99 €, with the developers being so humble as to have A SALE OF THEIR ENTIRE franchise, INCLUDING Gallipoli (which was priced at ONLY 20 .00€) at launch is just a damn steal at this point, there are plenty of updates, improvements, fixes soon to come, with the developers releasing a roadmap. I swear, this entire franchise is a masterpiece and I will support this series until the day I DIE. Bravo. In my honest opinion, this game is ABSOLUTELY worth buying, even at the standard price, I strongly recommend checking out their older titles as well as I have played all of them for a hefty amount of time and have written an extensive review such as this one on them all as well!
I have played all the WW1 series games of Blackmill, I even played Verdun when it came out in 2014. I think they changed the game pretty much since Isonzo, I mean, not the same dark/gritty feel of the first one, which also definitely DID NOT have the cinematic feeling from the last 2 games. And I didn't liked that change. However, I bought this game not expecting much and ended up liking it quite a lot more than expected. Feels more like Verdun at times, since it offers some wide and open fronts with trenches, but also some more "urban" combat as in Isonzo (which for me is their new standard). The game is well done, I like the voices (they are better than Isonzo's) and the customization of characters. This is definitely a FUN game. Sure, there were some controversies with the "down" and "heal" system (some say they are imitating it from Battlefield) but for me it's fun. I really liked the game. My veredict is that, sadly, in the future this game will suffer from low player counts. This happens with ALL of their games, and do you know why? because the devs KEEP selling them as separate products. You should merge them all into a single game (maybe separate them by DLC if you want people to still paying for every front?) but if you keep all your games separated, you divide your playerbase and will suffer constantly from low player counts. Just my opinion, but I hope you all LISTEN.
