Town of Salem

I played this game for years back on the site and actually have one of the OG free accounts. But, as other reviews here state the game is trash now due to the community. It's non-stop insanely racist ♥♥♥♥ 24/7. Slurs, people trolling and anyone that has a killing role even town will just slaughter randomly. There's no game anymore, it's just 99% racist trolls and 1% people who don't know what's going on.

I want to make sure as many people see this situation going on with a ToS moderator, DJF, since the other mods and DB refuse to handle it. This is a review from a different person on ToS2, but it sums up the issue: "I love this game. Really, I do. But I cannot in good conscience recommend this game with a groomer moderator still allowed on board. This moderator has additionally sent invasive messages to numerous people including minors, revealed his face to one unprompted, has a weird obsession with trans people, drew extremely questionable things in a game of Gartic Phone while minors were present, and sent downright inappropriate messages to people to the point of getting banned from an unofficial Discord server. And despite pretending to be concerned about this behavior, the other moderators did NOTHING about it. He's still an active community member and a moderator to this day. In fact, the moderators timeout and ban people who try to bring this up publicly, so they clearly want this silenced." To further elaborate: Sydney was given plenty of evidence via modmail of DJF (the moderator) at the end of June, sending multiple, inappropriate DMs to minors. From that, he was banned in two separate other ToS related servers. When Sydney did nothing about it, people even emailed Lance, one of the DB owners, who ALSO did nothing. So despite numerous victims finally coming forward, tons of evidence, and seeing DJF get banned in 2 other servers, his fellow mod friends and DB stand behind his atrocious behavior because they have to protect their own friend, consider everyone else "bad actors," and not give any help to the victims as a result in the main ToS server of Btos server. DJF continues to be a moderator, when he should have been removed and banned. If he had any respect for the community, he'd have stepped down himself, but he hasn't. He wants free reign to continue his actions with protection in the future. SHAME ON DB, THE DEVS, AND THE MODS.

I'd like to say first that I used to play this game all the time back in the day when it was a free browser game. It used to be a lot of fun. Now it's dead. You will sit in queue forever, and a ranked game will never pop. Your only option if you ever want to play the game is to go to ranked practice. Coordinated groups will go into the lobbies and take turns leaving seconds before the game launches to stall the lobby indefinitely. The same accounts keep doing it, but the devs/mods don't ban them. Who will they ban though? They will ban long term players you've played for years for the most trivial reasons. I received a strike on my account for "leaving the game" because said that I was AFK for one single night. I appealed this strike and the power tripping useless mod tried to tell me that being afk was as good as leaving the game. I pasted the actual rule that said "don't be afk for an extended period of time." He literally responded "yes, an extended period of time. One night is an extended period of time." This C-sucker really told me 40 seconds is an extended period of time. Unbelievable. There are regularly people leaving the game early (you can expect 2 to 3 of them at least every single game). And it's filled with game throwers and trolls. They really shouldn't be able to charge money for this game. The player base is dead, the mods are horrible, and the community is horrible. Do not waste your money.

Game used to be good 10 years ago, as per my over 500 hours played. Today, no game is more pathetically mismanaged than Town of Salem. You will not get a game without at least 50% racist throwers. BlankMedia was bought out by Digital Bandits, who immediately laid off the staff and continue to keep this game on a backburner and gaslight the community saying they are doing so much work all the time. Absolutely nothing to show for it. The only thing they do is make comments defending themselves and how hard they are working. Fraudsters. This game should be removed from Steam. Shame on these developers. The mods seem like they have some untreated mental illnesses because they act very weird and inept. But what else would you expect for a game that has been completely infiltrated by bad actors. I couldn't do so badly if I deliberately tried, so I guess that is an accomplishment for them in a sense? Edit: I didn't name names but my point stands the devs and mods are incapable of looking in a mirror and Flavorable replied to this review vigously defending ToS. Take the criticism and move on in your life. Even tried doxxing me in the comments to this review.

Payed for this game, played for 40 hours, and got banned for something I didnt do. the fact that I payed for a game and they wont let me at the very least appeal my ban or make a new account is a thumbs down for me.

Was good years ago, but don't bother now. Game is on its death bed and has, honest to god, the most toxic community I've ever experienced in anything. I played League of Legends. I played WoW. Many, many multiplayer games. This game wins. By a large margin. And due to the nature of the game, you cannot just ignore chat. Most modes are completely dead, and due to the game having such a small playerbase now you will probably get the same toxic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ every game if you do get into one (if you got a really big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you could easily get into a game with different people when this game was popular) You will get called actual slurs for doing anything someone didn't like/making any form of mistake. Even the "new player" modes are dead these days, it's right into the lion's den with you. One of the reasons this game struggles so much to attract new players now. Some of the saddest, most miserable people you'll ever meet play this game religiously. This game always had a toxicity problem in all honesty, but it was nothing like what it is now. It's gotten much worse. I loved this game when it was peak popularity, but avoid it at all costs now. The time to play it was, unfortunately, years ago. There is nothing here. I would only consider buying it if you have a dedicated friend group that is large enough to fill entire lobbies - that is the only way to still have a good time with this game.

Type in "town of salem banned" and you will find the creators of the game deactivated their forums and are personally banning players over annoyance or grudges in their discord chat. Do not spend your money here or else creators and moderators will ban you without recourse and will not issue refunds over personal grudges and annoyance, as made clear by their discord chats.

The game has high-level moderation that is trigger-happy and authoritarian. Move on to another game.
