Has promise, but doesn't deliver. Mechanically there are a handful of things that seem interesting and like you should pay attention to them that just don't go anywhere. There is no real point in taking notes because you are handed solutions to every problem without needing to look around or remember anything. Cool, I can run programs from my terminal -
e.g. I can call certain people if I pay attention to their IP addresses
. But does that come up at all after I'm shown it? No, it's a one-off to get my to type something into the terminal for vibes. Problems are not solveable outside of the linear storyline. Problems and solutions are presented to you side by side. There is no payoff for paying attention to details, because they don't go anywhere, you can't use them to figure anything out. Very much on rails, and a disappointing detective game experience. I almost thought this would go somewhere cool at the end
and that you would continue the game as HAL and actually find out who the mysterious baddies are
, but this too does not pay off. Just leaves me wanting more, but not in a good way; feels almost like a demo. When it was revealed
who the mole was I was like yeah, ok, there are like 6 total people I have met who aren't dead, of course it's my sketchy friend Mike who's been acting weird.
That being said, individual minigames and puzzles were genuinely fun to solve. I wish the game leaned more into the mechanics and systems they had, I think that is where they were strongest, and made it important and useful to take notes - reward paying attention to the details! Why give us a notepad if there's nothing you realistically need to write down? I wish I like this game more!
The game is brief, with frustrating mechanics, obvious plot from the start and feels super lacking in choices mattering at all. Overall one-dimensional, predetermined path you must play "correctly" and just see the events unfold in the only way possible. There is absolutely no freedom, second path or any autonomy at any point - just like entering the credentials - you just need to type anything and watch the correct letters appear - so is the game deciding what you do and where you end up, the only point of failure available - a bomb defusal that you can replay and read a frustrating long manual with no back button for absolutely no plot or artistic reason over and over. There is no skipping pointless dialogue or blurred (for no reason other than lack of budget, I guess) cutscenes between the days. Overall unpleasant gameplay, unpleasant ending and most of all unpleasant waste of money to buy sheer frustration for 3 hours.
This game essentially feels underbaked. It was building up a compelling mystery and then it gets cut short in a rather unsatisfying way. However, I feel like what is present in the game is strong enough to still recommend. If you like other investigative computer type games such as Orwell or The Roottrees are Dead, you will like this and I think it's still worth playing despite the flaws.
I love this genre of games, the "investigate things from the terminal" genre. Unfortunately this may be the least favorite for me of the ones I played. The puzzles are either really easy or full of moon logic. The ending is so insanely obvious I thought they were setting a twist, but no they didn't. Also the ending and the credits is an example of fairly poor storytelling that I won't get into details over to avoid spoilers. It's only saving grace is that it is fairly short. I genuinely don't understand the high ratings.
THIS IS THE BEST STORY INTERACTIVE GAME I EVER PLAYED. Thanks For This Game
Great fun, nice story, although the ending is a bit "meh" was engaging throughout the rest of the story though. I do love a game where i am scanning images and looking at files.
It seems too railroaded and short. Unsatisfying
Oof. This game summarized the phrase "that could have been an email." The game is 95% slowwwww dialogue and 5% actual game play. I kept waiting for the game to get started so I could actually try to get to the bottom of something. If you want to sit around bored reading through a story with a couple questions you have to answer throughout, this game if for you. If you actually like any kind of intellectual challenge, problems solving, etc, avoid this one at all costs... even if it's free.. there's just sooo much sitting around watching words go by. 0/5 stars
Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting story and the final plot twist is one I definitely didn't expect. The UI and the mechanics were interesting, and while it wasn't very hard at least I didn't have to ask for help so it's pretty easy access for people who aren't hardcore into mystery solving. However, I feel like this concept could have gone SO much further- the open ending could have allowed for at least twice as much story and overall I feel like the whole Operator thing should have lasted longer- either been stretched out more in time (because timeline wise this all happens VERY fast) or just... had more to do, more characters to meet? It's supposed to be a full time job and yet we practically only help with a single case a day. In short, I'll repeat what I've seen a lot of other reviews say; this game had a lot of potential. I almost feel like this could be a demo! I bought it on sale, so it's fine, but for a game that has practically only three hours of gameplay I feel like the price (while probably very justified for the developers), isn't really worth it for people with limited funds, especially since there's no real replayability. If you have the money to spare, sure, it's a fun but short game that isn't too hard, but if you want some challenge or you're trying to figure out what to spend your limited allowance on, this probably isn't it.
