I'm gonna be honest before I start with the actual review, I've only known freedom planet for like two years. The only reason I actually played it was because of Sonic.exe the disaster on roblox used an OST for this game. Okay, now onto the actual review, I think freedom planet 2 is a significant improvement despite some mechanics & gimmicks that I think were not that necessary. Firstly I'd like to say that the levels in this game are a whole lot better than the first freedom planet, as if you were a normal person who'd play both games for the first time FP2 does a lot better with the time. Though I will admit that playing on keyboard sucks in this game too because there's more keybinds, quite literally just go get a controller and connect it. The second thing I wanna touch up upon is the completion rank. It's an interesting touch to what the first freedom planet didn't have, and I think trinkets and whatever else impacting your score is something I wouldn't expect. Do I think it was that necessary? Ehhhh... Not really. Though I do think it was neat with the different combos you could use, especially the potions even if I never used 'em much. Also Carol's stage completion theme is the best, fight me! Thirdly, Freedom Planet 2's different movesets for the main three were a major improvement. Milla's revamp was for sure (imo) the best out of her, Carol, and Lilac. She isn't forced to run around carrying some giant cube, and her gimmick where you don't even need a cube to use her defense/offense moves. Though most fun in gameplay terms to me is 1000% Carol, her comedy relief-like writing carried the humor. I have a gif of her on that battlesphere introduction cutscene sliding away. And to not make it any longer I'll simplify my final reasoning, I think villain good but motive? I mean kinda fair but Idk. Neera Li as fourth character cool, but she's most skill required to use to me. And the collectable pieces of game's OST and whatever is kinda neat. Also 100%ing the game is probably such a challenge but that would be fun video idea for someone here. That's about it I guess I don't really know what to put here, $25 well spent
This sequel makes so many improvements over the first game. The art is better, the music is much better, even if it's horribly compressed for some reason, and the level design is overall much better. They finally figured out how to make levels with multiple paths without it being confusing on where to go, for the most part at least. There are still a lot of cheap enemy placements and one-hit kills that you don't get enough time to react to, which is especially frustrating when you only have a limited amount of lives. The biggest reason I wouldn't recommend it though is the amount of technical issues I had trying to play it. The first issue I encountered was the extremely long load times for levels. The game starts up in a reasonable time and loads the map just fine, but every single level took consistently over a minute to load for some reason. Even levels that were just a 10 seconds cutscene took so long to load. Even when it loaded, it took like half a minute for the music to start playing. Minor annoyances, but nothing that major. The reason I only have 2 hours in the game right now is that I wasn't able to get past the third stage. I tried multiple times, but every single time the game either crashed, or I got soft-locked because the game wouldn't progress properly after beating the second mid-level boss. The first and second stage worked fine, so I don't know what's up with the third stage, but since I can't finish it, I can't know what the rest of the game is like. Seeing that the game hasn't been updated since 2024, I wouldn't be hopeful for it to ever be fixed, and thus, I can't recommend it. I might change my mind if they ever decide to make the game playable. Very disappointing to see, I was really looking forward to this game :/
thank you purple sonic once again for the sequel it was cool it was pretty music is cool
Very cool Sonic-like. Tyson Tan makes really cute stuff.
A huge improvement from the original game in almost every aspect. Lots of customization through items, huge gameplay and speed improvements, and way more levels to run through. Though running out of lives does force you to restart the level, it isn't a huge setback, as you can either spend gems to continue or try again, because in comparison to FP1, its levels are far less lengthy. Even after completing the game, there are multiple challenges you can take and even a boss rush, and equipping certain items can make a level item in exchange for a higher gem reward. The soundtrack to this game is also quite good like the original, but most boss themes don't feel that intense. But still, without a doubt, it's one of the best platformers I've played in my life.
*more of a rant honestly* Loved to liked everything except the Magma Starscape boss, why in hell would set up a boss battle where if you get hit twice (if you grabbed the fire shield and didn't use any items to have a better shielding) you're now on a death timer to beat the boss? and the final battle having so many phases they had to put two check points in it. good god why? the first and second mode that went straight into throw hands mode would of been enough. but ya can't give a dislike review for my lack of skill so ya was happy with my purchase.
Good game but the 6-phase final boss lowers this game to a 6/10.
Liked it a lot, you should try it. Great story, great music. I got lost three times in the levels but its ok x] Honestly I wish to see more success for this game and maybe see a sequel someday.
Even better than the first game. All the stages are winners, great soundtrack and gameplay.
Excellent game! Finished 2 times
