Fantastic game, but lacks a LOT of polish. On a surface level this game looks great on all the places that matter the most, controls great, and has overall solid level design. But the implementation of power ups is clumsy, boss fights are really awkward, the way stage rankings work is lowkey braindead, and the lock-and-key way the game hides secret collectibles in each stage really does not mash well at all with the linear act-based sonic-like structure the game has. Beyond that, a lot of UI elements look really cheap and out of place, most eggregious of them being the game's font choices. There are times when this game looks like a beautifully sprited PSX mega man game, just for it to look like a 2010 indie freeware game a couple of seconds later. All in all, this is definitely a product that could've used a little bit more of polish, but in a general sense it is still fantastic and super fun all throughout. I hope the devs make a sequel in the future because what is shown here has a lot of promise, just needs more expertise and more time in the oven to truly become the best version of itself.
if you wanna play a mega man inspired indie game, this isn't the one berserk boy is one of the few games i've played where i have broken down into laughter at the level design and boss design for being utterly pitiful i couldn't believe what i was seeing at points the game starts out fine enough if you disregard the abysmal voice acting that cannot be disabled and actively detracts from the game. like seriously, its not even so bad its good or funny bad it is just genuinely miserably bad. anyway, yes it starts out fine enough and the first suit is really fun to use, dashing all over the place and bouncing off enemies and the introduction is fine enough but it never feels like the game evolves from that. it gives you new suits with new powers, but unless you're outright forced to use them to open a door or something you pretty much never have to use them as the first suit can do everything you would need, trivialising so much of the platforming you wonder how 90% of the levels made it past playtesting. the game even later on gives you a suit that allows you to FLY, and then afterwards STILL gives you platforming segments where it wants you to awkwardly grapple onto bars or use another suit to make some platforms solid. now WHY would i do any of that when i have the ability to just fly over all of it? did anyone think about this?? the game throws so many combat rooms at you throughout the game and theyre all the same, enemies are a pushover. same with bosses, as soon as you get the final suit you can shred through them so fast it becomes pathetic. the final boss died in under 10 seconds, only for the cutscene afterwards to have my character hunched over like it was a hard fight like come on guys maybe play your own game and test stuff. ironically, this games broken-ness and easiness to cheese become the most fun part of it, getting by sections meant for a flying ability by just dashing across walls and abusing the insane i-frames you get from the ground pound felt cool to pull off, just makes me wonder what the game would be like if it was actually built around this. the pixel art is FINE, but looks kinda ugly on a lot of the human chartacters, some of the robots look alright though and the visual effects are good. same with the music, it is perfectly serviceable but im never going to listen to any of these again. in one ear out the other. if you like mega man, do not get this game it is quite literally laughably bad at points to where i keep questioning if any of this was playtested by anyone. go play gravity circuit instead 4/10
𝔾𝕆 𝔹𝔼ℝ𝕊𝔼ℝ𝕂
Berserk Boy bursts onto the screen with the kind of confidence only a game that loves its own momentum can afford. Right from the opening animation, you just know you're in for quite the treat. The game's very core revolves around flow. This megaman's clone has its level designs entirely built to reward speed, chaining attacks to increase your score and jumps into a single uninterrupted rhythm; all while banging amazing soundtracks to boot! Combat and movement aren't seperate systems; they're two sides of the same impulse. Kei, the berserk boy, can also transform, Digimon-style into different powers that allow him to access many new areas, so heavy backtracking is in order as you only get a new power once you defeat some pesky researchers. Visually, Berserk Boy leans into vibrant pixel art that's experessive and witty. The screen is always full of motion and the soundtrack complements it perfectly. That said, the game isn't entirely frictionless. Players who like Megaman's methodical platforming may find the pace overwhelming, despite the game having clearly taken inspiration from our blue, mechanized friend! However, as a seperate game, Berserk Boy is easily a 9/10 game. A mark down because I've encountered a bug that really hindered my 100%-OCD-motivated playthrough. Other than that, the game's amazing! Get it, play it, enjoy it! That's all!
I forced myself to finish it. The game is repetitive, and almost all abilities rely on dashing. Basically, the game lacks variety and becomes boring because most mechanics feel the same. I cannot recommend this game. The main reason I bought it because I was hoping for a megaman clone.
This game is amazing and I can't believe I had it there without playing it before. The good: -Fast paced action -Upbeat soundtrack -Pixel Art no being stuck in an era The Bad: -Controls -Not clear when or what can insta death you -Some cheap enemy placements The Ugly: -The text box sometimes covers the action -Not let you choose your prefered button icons (PSX, XB, SW) -Had to remap dash on B and attack on X, it felt more natural It felt like playing a GBA game and I'm glad the game doesn't gatekeep progression or a diferent ending on 100% complission. I hope we can see a sequel and keep the structure for people who don't care for complission and only want to enjoy a good game.
I hate to leave thumbs-down reviews... it feels mean. But I cannot recommend this game. I was hoping for a cool Mega Man clone, but this wasn't even close to hitting that spot. The graphics can be pretty ok, but something is off with the blending of the sprites and the backgrounds. The combat and powers are boring. The enemies are boring. The bosses are boring. The levels are boring. I just couldn't go on after a couple of levels.
Berserk Boy absolutely nails the feeling of momentum — chaining dashes through enemies like a supercharged Mega Man Zero felt incredible from the first level, and Tee Lopes' soundtrack keeps the energy cranked the whole way through. The different Berserk forms are a cool concept, though I'll be honest: I kept defaulting to the Lightning form because it just feels so much better than everything else you unlock. My biggest gripe is that the game essentially forces you to replay all the levels hunting for medals just to reach the real ending, which kills the flow that makes the first half so fun — it feels like a checklist crammed into a game that was never designed around that kind of careful exploration. That said, if you grew up with Mega Man Zero or ZX, there's a genuine thrill here that's hard to find anywhere else, and the core platforming is tight enough to carry you through the rough spots.
JUEGAZO 😎👍💛🌟
game is good!
Game was as good as I expected. pretty much boring all around. Music is uninspired. Grafx are bad but not in a nostalgia cool pixel art way, just bad. Story is boring too. Even on a discount i cant recommend it
