I like this game, it was a good purchase for 4,74€ (18,99€ is a rip-off, sorry - 10€ would be a fair price for what you get), but it appears to have been taken out of early access too early and then later abandoned for the cycle to continue. This game is unfished and development appears to be abandoned apart from "bug-fixes" and it appears to be a pattern for these devs. I believe this game had great potential, but it is what it is. Hopefully it will inspire someone who will make a similar game and actually finish it. The game feels like if you took early access Rimworld and slapped some Sims bechanics on it, which is surprisingly nice. You are pretty limited in terms of how many villagers you can have (but thankfully there is a mod to fix that). Seasons are short and doesn't provide much in terms of difficulty (but thankfully there is a mod to fix that too). The AI is simple, which isn't bad in itself, but there are a few issues when it comes to following instructions. As an example, they sometimes straight up refuse to bury bodies despite there being a free grave (I started just leaving bodies so that my village is littered by skeletal remains), think a path is blocked when it isn't, they can be on their way to do something and then just suddenly either change their mind or refuse to do it (which can result in death or extreme frustration). Combat is could be better since you always just knock people unconscious and have to pray they don't wake up before the battle is done so you can strip from of gear and skill them after. Also, paying wages to your villagers seem kinda like a lazy way to drain money and create further grind. The wages depend on how many villagers you have and how long they've been in the village. A way to cheese the wages is to just ritualistically sacrificing villagers at the cost of their levels (which don't do much beyond a certain point anyway) to keep wages down. Or just remove wages entirely through mods or something. All buildings are square (leaving limited room for creativity) and fortification walls doesn't actually count as walls despite being able to connect with... Walls... The UI, item descriptions, guides and overall explanations for what things do is more inconsistent than the Scandinavian weather. Mind you, Scandinavian weather can go from frosty foggy mornings, to summer during the day, to rain, thunder, and wind in the evening, just to roll the dice overnight and see what we get the day after. You might find %itemname_description% placeholders or simply nothing at all when looking for an explanation on what what is. The research tree doesn't do much but kill time, introduce cosmetics alongside storage and simple crafting progession, as well as add some grind. To get the largest map possible, set the world to large and add "many goblin villages". You will inevitably be forced to annihilate 50-70% of the villages anyways, so don't worry about needing space. I could go on, but it is generally a good game despite all of that. Not 18,99€ worth, but worth getting on sale if you need to kill some time. Mind you, I've only gotten 1,3 hours and I've already gone run past the core content and installed mods while considering making my own. It's a Unity based game, so modding is fairly simple. Their new WIP game Haven Craft has received around 259572€ in grant money from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, so hopefully they will make a fully fleshed out game with that. The game both looks and sound promising, so I will most likely get it, assuming they won't push FOMO or follow the same pattern as the already existing games they've made alongside Sims level DLC. Should the devs one day come back to finish the game, I'd probably change my review into a positive one, but for now I'll just leave it at negative. Don't get me wrong; the game is good, but I can't recommend it.
BEST GAME EVER. Don’t listen to the red reviews. These people can’t handle micromanagement. This isn’t a peasant game, it’s a KINGDOM game. You start from nothing and build your empire step by step. If these reviewers got isekai’d, they wouldn’t be kings… they’d be the NPC asking for bread in the village square.
Such a great game. Has some issues, but nothing worth crying about. Only real complaint is that there isn't a second one in development.
So I thought I would like this game it seems like a progressive build but its what you get if you take a progressive build + The Sims + Management and Resource game - Stick it in a blender and Voila! sounds great right?! I was fine with having to fight tribes of goblins and pirates that either extort you as a friend or just come to murder you, I could handle the fact that if you do not remove ALL the buildings of the enemy they instantly regrow back for you to destroy again, I could deal with the slow crawl making everyone happy like the sims. HOWEVER what I can't stand is how the bots that are my people feel like going clear across the map to mine or fell trees when there are plenty right next to my town, thus getting themselves killed or beaten up because they get close to the enemy and this happens more and more. When you add all of the problems together the game is not fun it just an exersize in a futile grind that all in all is not worth it because your people just go off and are stupid - fix this and the game might be tolerable. Otherwise there are other games that do a better job at any of the other aspects including graphics.
"Micromanager's Fortune" - This is a good game with a few flaws that really do the game bad. They'd be so easily fixed as well. Now this game is brutal to start, you really don't have your hand held and I like it. While there's no story generator like in RimWorld but you'll get stories, oh yes you will. You will lose people. You will WANT to lose people, especially children who get all the bad luck. Other people you will keep alive out of sheer respect and have them guzzling dodgy potions forever. This game is EXTREME micromanagement, especially with children around as you want to give them the absolute best upbringing you can. For example I finally had a child born, she had bad conversations, had bad jokes and was getting bad traits building. Then she got the flu. This was my first kid in the colony and I didn't know what to do. It made her miserable, it put her in pain. I didn't have medication and couldn't afford it. I had no doctor. I let her die. When someone dies? EVERYONE in the colony becomes sad for a while. This sounds small, but it's going to really throw spanners in the works later, take right now for example. I have 5 kids in the colony all born around the same time. If anyone dies now they are all going to be problem villagers. They will all also die around the same time, which is going to be awful to deal with. You'll deal with tribes, traders, and pirates. It's in your interest to balance your politics in this game, do not make enemies of everyone. If they all come at once you're done for. I've never actually seen my colony ruined and always keep a couple of tribes on side as well as the trader and pirates. They will also DEFEND you as well if you're in good enough standing which is extremely handy. Some tribes will just hate you.
lags bad, doesnt always start, seem like you need a 12,000 dollar computer to play such a simple game.. absolutely annoying.
Warning do not buy. This game has a lot of potential. Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to beat. Ive attempted to play through this game twice, each time getting screwed over by the bad events that can happen. The only way to possibly cure sickness is using the illness cures that you are provided at the early game in small quantities or waiting to the late game when you can make your own. There is a 0% chance that villagers will overcome the sickness on their own. The tribute system is very cut throat, either you provide what the enemy faction asks for or you will get steamrolled. Sometimes they ask for things that you already have and can give away easily. Or they will ask for things you don't have, things that require several in game days to produce the materials and research for. Did I mention there's a time limit? You are only ever given at max 5 in game days to cough up what they ask for or they will break into your base and destroy everything precious to you. The defensive measures that are available to you are based on multiple factors (Research, colonist soldier level, and availability of resources.) The research level determines what defensive structures/equipment you can construct. Early- mid game you are going to have wooden/stone defensive structures/equipment. The problem is that even on easy you're not going to have enough resources to make everything you need (because of the frequency of tributes/bad events.) So what can you do? There's traps, I can use those right? Nah not really, its like placing a mouse traps and expecting that to be able to take down anything other than mice. Those same mouse traps don't line up with the building grid or enemy hitboxes properly and cost 45 wood each. Oh and your colonist can only defend themselves with tools because you only have one or two colonist who have any of the soldier perks. First year that's fine, its manageable. Second year you're going to have to fight 2-8 goblin tribals/pirates with stone/metal gear. The pacing is impossible to keep up with even on easy mode. Also the most of the assets used for this game seem to be store bought. Of course there's mods available to kinda fix up the game, its like the devs released this game expecting the consumer to fix it after purchase. Unfortunately its too late for me to refund, but its not too late for you! do not buy!
weak at best
Started my first game on the easest level possible and friendly. first two people very happy and did there work then someone came and joined they did not like there bed they hated the food and did not like their job assigned. they would not leave the house to get food from outside the colapesed from starvation and next minute they died. what the heck just happend all with in 30mins Talk about did not see that happening
i would only recommend buying this on sale as it's really not worth $22 and it's very clearly unfinished. but i really do enjoy the building, it's very easy to expand your village and houses. the micromanagement aspect takes a little getting used to but it's not super complicated. pretty fun for a few hours at a time
