Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm is a grand tactical wargame set at the height of the Cold War, with the action centered on the year 1989. As the force Commander, you will plan and then issue orders and Standard Operating Procedures to your battalion, brigade, or regimental forces shaping the fight by maneuver and your intent.
The game engine is based on asynchronous WEGO turns. This means you will issue orders then watch a variable amount of time unfold on the battlefield. Then issue or adjust orders to react to what has happened as you execute your battle plan.
Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm is a deep simulation of combat operations where your forces are arranged in maneuver units of companies, platoons, and sections of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, infantry squads and teams, recon forces, engineers, air-defense and anti-tank systems, helicopters and more. As the Commander, you will need to use available off-map assets like long-range artillery, rockets, or airstrikes. You may be faced with the specter of using chemical or nuclear weapons to support your forces on the map and win the day.
The Manual: if you order a physical copy of the game, you will receive a hardbook manual. This hardcover 300-page full-color handbook leaves no stone unturned in fully documenting every aspect of the game system, from game mechanics to advanced systems and strategies as well as designer notes and helpful appendices.
Your forces will engage the enemy on 20km x 15km or larger rendered real-world map locations. Each hex is 500m of militarily significant terrain. Each battle can last 4 to 24 hours of in-game time.
Your troops will meet their foes during any time of day and any weather.
Your efforts in this complex battlespace will be constantly challenged by modeled features like Electronic Warfare, Air Superiority, Realistic Weather, Line of Sight and Fire, Terrain and Elevation, Smoke and Mines, and Human Factors like training, morale, and readiness. All these elements must be considered if you are to be victorious on the battlefield.
To help you navigate these critical factors, the game is packed with information dialogs, map overlays, and range rings to aid you as Commander, master the situation, and understand the capabilities of your forces.
Southern Storm covers areas of Southern Germany on 40 plus maps and an extensive selection of military equipment from 1980 to 1989. You will lead forces from the United States, France, Canada, West-Germany, Soviet Union, East-Germany, and Czechoslovakia. These nations will be fighting in many replayable scenarios and campaigns, both in solo efforts or with allied nations fighting by your side.
You will be immersed in is a data-rich simulation where each nation has information on National Characteristics, Command Parameters, and Orders of Battle. Data Tables are packed with era-specific equipment and troops. Weapon Systems of the time such as guns, missiles, precision munitions, small arms, and much more are comprehensively modeled.
As a toolkit, you can create your own scenarios and campaigns. There is also the ability to dive deeper and create or modify game data, artwork, and sound effects as you see fit. All these modding capabilities are supported by detailed documentation.

Reviews
Red Storm and Reforged were great. Southern Storm is greater.
Despite my lack of experience with hex wargames, I can assure that Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm is one of the best, most detailed, and interesting games in the genre. What sets it apart is that it doesn't work by the traditional IGOUGO turn system, but rather by a WEGO system where both parties issue orders and then the game simulates their execution during a dynamic amount of time. But there is an additional quirk: both parties don't give orders simultaneously; each one does in a different moment in time, simulating their own military cycle of command. This makes for a lot interesting tactical situations where you must think ahead of time, considering how long will it take for you to give orders again, how long will the enemy take to react and all the things you might expect from a military simulation, such as weapons and sensors systems, weather, soft factors, terrain, line of sight, etc. Because there is a delay between orders are given and they begin to be exectued, such as in real life, tempo is extremely important. Sometimes it is better to embrace a plan that, given the current situation, might not be the best than to stop to give a new set of orders, at the risk of losing initiative. The interface is great, well layed out, if a little overwhelming at first, beacuse it displays a lot of useful information for you to always be able to make informed decisions. To fully enjoy the game, reading the manual should be a priority, and it's a long manual, but for me, it was completely worth the time, making my first contact with the game less overwhelming. Overall, I highly recommend FC:ST if any of this seems interesting to you, but be aware of the time you need to invest to get familiarized with it.
WEGO system is great. I wish more strategy games using the same...
This is a very good game if you are into serious wargaming and love to be challenged. The variations can keep you interested for years.
虽比一代好一点,但是还是脱离不了剧本,为什么总是你觉得战场应该按照你的设想,我不要你觉得,我要我觉得,应该要有更随机的场景;另外,价格不亲民,不推荐
Only get this if its on sale. Huge learning curve and the documentation leaves a lot to be desired. Next to no content for the full price tag. AI isn't horrid but be prepared for your units to do some truly dumb stuff like a strella team trying to take on a tank company while ignoring enemy attach helo's.
Finally a wargame that doesn't make me feel stupid
OUI je recommande ! Parce qu'il est pointilleux, exigeant, prenant, bien foutu, assez complet, pas facile. De la bonne stratégie militaire en WEGO (tour par tour en simultané).
A great war game engine that allows you to experience the Cold war at the level of battalion/brigade commander, along with all of the delays and difficulties that entails. The UI is really clean and intuitive if you play these kind of games.
Game is unplayable because artillery is incredibly overpowered and they are ramping it up even more for CW according to ''Data'' they found. Hell no.
