COOL
FLARE NUINUI QUEST is a compact but spirited retro-style action platformer that wears its inspirations proudly, combining the sensibilities of classic 8-bit and 16-bit side-scrollers with the charm and personality of its hololive-inspired world. Developed by sulpx and published by holo Indie, the game centers around Shiranui Flare, who sets out on a lighthearted yet energetic adventure to rescue her missing friends. Rather than trying to reshape the genre, the game embraces simplicity, delivering a focused experience built around fast stages, responsive shooting, and boss encounters that echo the arcade spirit of earlier eras. The narrative is intentionally lightweight, serving primarily as a framework for each stage and character appearance, keeping the player firmly rooted in forward momentum rather than extended exposition. The presentation is one of the game’s strongest assets. The pixel-art style is clean and vibrant, giving every character and enemy a distinct silhouette and personality. Animations are crisp and lively, offering just enough flourish to keep movement visually satisfying without distracting from the action. Backgrounds shift from bright, cheerful landscapes to more atmospheric arenas that give boss fights a sense of importance. The music, composed in retro chiptune style, pays tribute to both classic game soundtracks and songs associated with the characters. Each level’s theme reinforces the energy of the moment — often nostalgic, sometimes whimsical, but always catchy — making the overall audiovisual experience feel cohesive and lovingly assembled. Mechanically, the game offers a familiar but enjoyable moveset centered around quick shooting, sliding, and the use of charged attacks. Flare can effortlessly pepper enemies with rapid-fire rounds, which keeps the pacing fast and forgiving in the early stages. The charge shot adds a layer of strategy as players choose between constant offense and carefully timed power bursts. The enemy placement and pacing of each stage support this accessibility: encounters rarely overwhelm, and learning enemy patterns is straightforward. Boss battles elevate the challenge through pattern recognition, movement discipline, and well-timed dodging. They stand out as highlights of the game, offering just enough difficulty to stay engaging without slipping into punishing territory. These fights often serve as the point where the game’s mechanics and presentation blend most seamlessly, making each confrontation feel memorable. While the game’s stages are enjoyable, they tend to focus on straight-line progression rather than exploration or complex platforming. The level design prioritizes clarity and flow, ensuring that players can maintain speed without puzzling over paths or navigating elaborate traps. For some, this simplicity is part of the game’s charm; for others, it may feel like a missed opportunity, as the game rarely pushes environmental creativity beyond functional layouts. Still, the straightforward design allows the action to shine, and it keeps the game approachable for players who prefer rhythm and reflex over intricate navigation. Beyond the main campaign, FLARE NUINUI QUEST introduces additional playable characters with their own campaigns, offering new gameplay twists and a reason to revisit the stages. These side routes give the game more staying power than its initial runtime would suggest, presenting fresh abilities, different approaches to combat, and alternate boss patterns. For completionists or fans of the characters, uncovering secrets, mastering achievements, and exploring the differences between campaigns can add meaningful replay value. The game also includes extra difficulty options and optional challenges that allow players to test their mastery of the mechanics once they have grown comfortable with the basics. Despite its strengths, the game’s limitations are clear and consistent with its modest scope. Its simplicity means it won’t satisfy players seeking deep combat systems, complex platforming, or long-form adventure structure. The fan-oriented elements and character references may also resonate more strongly with those already familiar with the hololive ecosystem, adding emotional weight and context that newcomers may not fully appreciate. However, these elements never intrude so heavily that the game becomes inaccessible; the core action remains enjoyable regardless of prior knowledge. Ultimately, FLARE NUINUI QUEST is a sincere and well-crafted homage to retro action games. It focuses on delivering tight controls, energetic boss fights, appealing pixel art, and a playful atmosphere, achieving exactly what it sets out to do. It’s a short, polished, and replayable experience that fits neatly into the niche of indie games meant to be enjoyed in comfortable bursts rather than long stretches. For fans of hololive, for enthusiasts of classic platformers, or for anyone seeking a charming pick-up-and-play title with strong presentation and responsive action, it stands as a delightful and worthwhile addition to the library. Rating: 8/10
Played this game when it was on itch. Great game. But, for the casino stage, I prefer the original soundtrack, opposed to this new version.

ДАБРО РЕКОМЕНДУЮ СЛИШКОМ ИМБА HOLOLIVE В СЕРДЕЧКЕ
A fun little platformer that's surprisingly packed with content. Tons of bosses, game modes, and secrets. Even though it's based on hololive and full of vtuber references, it totally stands on its own as a game where a funny anime girl beats up other funny anime girls.
可愛好玩 還會時不時更新
看着像小游戏,不过玩法多样,还挺耐玩的。
no hard, good gameplay, flare with pistols cool. noel funny, other boss easy)
