Immediately shuts down without even the appearance of an attempted start... Searched for fixes, and adding several mods MAY get it running... I think I'm going back to console gaming. PC ain't it chief. "Versatility, superior," blah, blah, blah. If a couple years down the road, the game is unusable, because updates, or newer OS, what's the upside? Another game in the graveyard of Steam eff you's because of EXTREM LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL. How hard would it be to even hold a dev or game studio mildy accountable for posting a game that doesn't work properly?
It takes like 12 hours for the game to get going. It's insane to ask the player to 'bear with me' for 12 hours long before quality is revealed. However after that looooooong start it turns into a pretty good and interesting game. 12 hours of bad cutscenes, actually the worst combat ever (at the start!), and 0 exploration before you get good cutscenes, fine combat and maybe even some crumbs of exploration. It's a tall order. Luckily the music is good from the get-go and becomes even better later!
English Version (french below) Ok so I really did not like this game on my first playthrough and decided to give it another try for the platinum. It's not the best game out there, but it has actually good gameplay (even if the tutorial takes WAY too long), very nice graphics, cool music, surprisingly nice characters, the progression is pretty satisfying andthe story is not that bad once you understand the very confusing terms that are almost never explained in dialogue (which makes it really hard to understand if you don't want to ready the codex entries) Now that doesn't mean the game does not have issues. The one complaint I have about the gameplay is that summons don't do anything, they barely do any damage it is not satysfying in the slightest. But to be honest, most problems for me came when we finally got access to some sort of open world. It has a million missions with some of them being stupid hard or annoying. Now, don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed the difficult fights a lot because they really pushed the combat system to its limits, but some of the fights were just plain annoying to deal with. And additionnally, the platinum requires so much farming it's horrendous, you really have to be prepared if you want to go through it. In summary, the game is a lot better than people give it credit for, but it's not amazing either. Oh yeah, and the fact you game over if your main character dies even if the rest of the squad is fine is completely stupid.
if you have a new gen gpu i highly recommend you don't buy any old final fantasy game, ff12 wouldn't start and ff13 keeps crashing constantly its really disappointing honestly, that said there are ways to fix it but its complicated i recommend doing your research before wasting your money.
This is simply the worst Final Fantasy game. The story is convoluted and boring. The characters are extremely tropey and uninteresting. The combat is terrible. The pacing is awful. The difficulty spikes are ridiculous. The game is extremely linear until it opens up near the end, then you're expected to back track constantly. I don't know why I even put 40+ hours into this.
requires fixes to get working "properly" but even after patches and fixes the game will still randomly crash.
LIGHTNINGGGGGGG
Still the most challenging game in the series. Doesn't take SUPER long to get working well but even then it's annoying. It'd be nice if we got a remaster/updated port with PS3/XOne CGI and fixed textures/shadows. Despite that, the game still holds up well visually. This is only the second/third worst way to experience the game, depending on how much 60fps makes or breaks it for you.
Absolutely do not waste your time or money on this garbage. Not even sure you can call this a Final Fantasy game. The story is complete nonsense with no clear sense of direction. Lightning is the main character yet somehow manages to be the most boring character in the cast. Most of the environments in this game are an eyesore and feel even worse to explore. Actually forget that last part. I almost forgot there are no places to explore in this game. There is no world map and no vehicle progression. The characters are given leveling trees that amount to being a very shallow interpretation of the job system. The combat might’ve been interesting if you were able to control more than one party member, BUT YOU CAN’T. Your other two party members are cpu automated and they suck. The gear progression is serviceable, if not incredibly slow. All of this comes together to create a very regrettable and unsatisfying experience that is also completely BROKEN. Can’t forget to mention that part. As if this game wasn’t already bad enough, this version of it is completely busted. Constant crashing that renders the game unplayable. I had to download mods just to make this game playable and for all that effort I was rewarded with this garbage. If you like Final Fantasy, don’t play this game. If you like RPGs, don’t play this game. If you like having fun, value your existence as a person, or are just a sentient being capable of thought, forget that you even clicked on this game.
