Prices
The United States storefront in every case, so this compares stores and not countries.
Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.33/day in the week to Aug 4 → 2.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Reviews
So I had some complaints about this game in my head as I was playing through, even at the lowest point of enjoyment I was going to still recommend it but with some caveats about how the draw system adds a very unsatisfying grind and how the main villain is "weirdly underdeveloped". After finishing it and seeing the ending wrap-up sequences, spending a few hours reflecting on all the plot pieces that fell into place.. it's *so* well written i'm actually left with chills and my complaints are pretty much all blown away. It's also a very sad realization of what the story actually is. *MAJOR SPOILERS* so please don't click unless you've finished or otherwise don't care.
Ultimecia is a memory degraded, morally degenerated Rinoa stuck in a causal loop and alone in the far future. Her motivation is the obliteration of time in order to end her suffering (although she might not be conscious of the why). Squall's "victory" ends with Ultimecia anchoring back to the orphanage with him before dying and passing her power on to Edea and is actually just a continuation of the loop and Rinoa's endless suffering.
Ultimecia is actually the most fully realized villian in the series. She's the best of girl, and the saddest of girl.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 20: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Junction, Draw & Defy Expectations – Final Fantasy VIII Remastered’s Deepest Systems Shine</b> A turn-based JRPG that dares to rewrite the rulebook, replacing traditional character progression with one of the most distinctive and rewarding customization systems in the genre. Core Gameplay & Structure FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered builds its adventure around exploration, turn-based battles, world traversal, and character growth, but it's the underlying mechanics that make it truly memorable. Rather than relying on conventional experience grinding, the game encourages players to strengthen their party through clever system mastery. Every dungeon, town, and optional area offers opportunities to expand your arsenal of magic, Guardian Forces, and abilities, creating a progression loop driven by experimentation instead of repetition. The Junction System The defining mechanic is the Junction system, which allows stocked magic to be equipped directly onto character stats. Fire, Cure, Haste, and countless other spells aren't simply cast in battle—they become equipment that determines Strength, HP, Speed, Elemental Affinity, and Status Resistance. This creates an extraordinary level of customization where every spell has multiple uses, rewarding players who take the time to experiment with different combinations. While initially intimidating, the system reveals remarkable depth once its flexibility clicks into place. Guardian Forces & Character Development Instead of predefined classes, characters evolve through Guardian Forces (GFs). Equipping different GFs unlocks stat junctions, command abilities, passive bonuses, and refinement skills that fundamentally change how each party member functions. Characters can be reshaped into powerful physical attackers, devastating spellcasters, agile support units, or balanced hybrids simply by changing their equipped GFs and junctions. Combat & Tactical Decision Making Battles use the Active Time Battle system while layering in Draw, Limit Breaks, summons, and status effects. Drawing magic directly from enemies adds another strategic consideration, forcing decisions between improving your stock of spells or ending encounters quickly. Limit Breaks remain some of the most satisfying attacks in the series, rewarding careful risk management without overwhelming the core turn-based combat. Triple Triad & Optional Systems One of the game's greatest strengths is how optional content feeds directly back into progression. Triple Triad is far more than a fun distraction—it becomes a powerful progression tool through card refinement, allowing rare cards to be transformed into valuable items and high-level magic. Combined with crafting, GF abilities, and refinement systems, nearly every side activity contributes to character growth in meaningful ways. Progression & Replayability The unusual level-scaling system shifts the focus away from endless grinding and toward understanding the game's mechanics. Learning how to refine items, optimise junctions, and develop Guardian Forces often has a greater impact than simply earning experience. This makes every replay an opportunity to discover new strategies and more efficient character builds rather than following the same progression path. Remastered Enhancements The remastered edition modernises the experience with improved character models alongside optional quality-of-life features including battle assists, speed boosts, and the ability to disable random encounters. These additions make revisiting the adventure considerably more convenient without changing the core mechanics that define the original experience. Verdict – 10/10 FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered remains one of the boldest RPGs ever designed, with its brilliantly flexible Junction system, endlessly rewarding character customization, and interconnected progression mechanics delivering a turn-based adventure that still feels refreshingly original decades later.
A classic when Square was still good. The first final fantasy I played when I was a teenager. Holds a special place in my heart.
I'm gonna hold off on a full review until I try it on my computer, but at this moment despite saying it's SteamDeck verified, it should not be played there. Right now it goes to a black screen and then the launch screen every 20-30 minutes; which typically results in a period of progress being lost due to how saves are. I'll edit this once I get an idea how it plays on my PC.
This is the worst FF-game, and a real bad video game. Going from FFVII straight to FFVIII is just... sad.
My favorite game in the series. First time played it 25 years ago. Still holds up for me. Love the story and characters. Junction systems can be a little bit tricky to grasp, but when you do it's really cool how you can brake a game. Drawing magic can be some tedious, but when FF was without a bit of grind? Remaster looks good, but i still prefer old PS1 look. For Steam Deck users. If you have trouble with game freez and crush after 15-30min of play, try revert OS vertion to 3.7.25. Maybe they fix it one day, but now it's not playable normally on Steam Deck with new versions of SteamOS.
4:3 scale and still have to download high rez movies and textures to make it look better. Extremely lazily done game.
