The Storyline is more flushed out and it improves on what the first Game of the Series made great. All in all a good follow Up. 7/10
A very enjoyable game; I can't understand why everyone says it's the worst in the series. I don't see any weak points. Better than the first one, and I suppose not as good as the third :)
FINAL FANTASY II ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ .... Alright, I see why everyone says this is the worst one now. Which is kind of funny to think about. On paper, this game seems like the perfect sequel to the original Final Fantasy. Characters feel more fleshed out, the world map feels more lived-in, and combat has more depth... but the game has a massive problem that looms over everything else: a great, dark evil commonly referred to as the "stat leveling" system. I don't think I can say anything about how leveling works in FF2 that hasn't already been said, and to no one's surprise, I also found it to be a problem that the game greatly suffers from. At best, the system accomplishes only more grinding. You will find yourself spending an entire battle having someone spam Esuna just so it can be a usable spell,
Ultima can only live up to its name if you spend literal hours grinding all of your stats to max,
and yes, hitting yourself is the optimal way to raise your max health. Often, this game just ends up feeling like I'm wasting my time. I have more fun working at my job than playing this game sometimes. And we need to talk about how this game has a fetish for empty rooms. Holy ♥♥♥♥. You're exploring a dungeon, you want to make sure you're getting all of the chests, you open a door into a room, and it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ empty. This is the majority of rooms that you'll find in dungeons. If you're a completionist, then this game hates your guts. Despite all of that, I would still recommend this game if you're truly curious enough to try it out. This is because the Pixel Remaster introduces features and gameplay changes that make this game a lot more bearable, as I mentioned in the previous review. These changes make the game go from a 28-hour slog to a 17-18-hour stroll, and again, the music is fantastic. Final Fantasy II gets a 7/10 rating from me.
This game is Ok through & through. my biggest problem is the leveling system its not bad just annoying for me since each stat is individual, but this game is completely unbalanced tho. just make one party member get really good at one thing and by the end those stats should be high leveled and will destroy any enemy, but the most important stats is evasion and agility. If u can get this super high leveled then the game is a piece of cake because u wont get hit by any physical damaging move. these stats wont help with magic so also try to get high magic defense, u will become unkillable. also the final boss is a joke if u plan correctly and have the right weapon. one more problem is the fourth party member. they should match ur party stats when they join not be almost base level for everything. so yeah it was fun and kept me engaged with a few problems mostly the leveling system but every game has its issues
Very soft recommend because Final Fantasy 2 is like, fine. It's an early experimental RPG and its open-ended levelling system makes character progression pretty fun. Still, the potential in these systems would not be realized until the SaGa games, especially like Romancing SaGa games which feel closer in design -- it's especially dire here that every spell is leveled up individually. Having to do stuff like use Esuna for no reason in several battles just so it can do what it's supposed to is pretty annoying. Or like, transitioning to a higher-tier attack spell, it will start very weak compared to what you've leveled already and it's awkward and tedious to switch over (eh, physical attacks are really strong anyway.) On top of that, the dungeons are designed to waste your time with tons of troll rooms that give you nothing and force you into hard encounters, and it gets old quickly. The story is nothing super special by today's standards, but for an NES game it has some good moments. You can really see the character-driven narrative side of FF start to form here. Overall, it's a great game to experience if you want to learn more about the history of this series; it's one of the single most influential games in the series. It's probably the best version of it on top of it, and gives you plenty of room to tailor your experience. I think playing through it once was enough for me, though.
mega classic
