It's a neat game, but man those controls are really frustrating. Not in a way that's it takes a bit to get used to but that it genuinely is hard to actually hit stuff sometimes. There are a lot of times where my weapon is overlapping the enemy, but it doesn't count as a hit (the spear was awful for this reason). I never really felt like I had a good understanding of the hitbox because of it. Not to mention everything feels sluggish (by design I assume but it just doesn't really feel like there's the impact to offset it). The map also all looks the same which really isn't useful when you are expected to be able to move back and forth between areas. This is a soft not recommended because others may be able to get past the frustrations I had but I ultimately didn't enjoy my time after the first half hour.

Featherfall is a miserable experience. There are some neat physics and I like how the game incorporates secret hunting. I can see a potential for a fun game, but this is very far from it. For one, you can barely upgrade your character, even if you gathered all the upgrades and found all the secrets you'd still only scratch the surface of all the upgrades. I think you can only become moderately strong at best. Some secrets require you to jump over a gap. And in some cases they are way too wide. I managed to jump over all of the narrower ones, but there were 2 or 3 which were simply too wide and required a severely precise jumps which I could not perform. One gap I tried maybe 30 times and no luck. The combat is simple, and while I liked some of the weapon physics, at times it can be painful. You can easily glitch out shoot through a wall and fall to your death. Sometimes enemies barely move you when you are hit, the other times you fly quite far which can ruin everything. The controls are very awkward. I tried both controller and mouse + keyboard and I would recommend playing this with mouse + keyboard. It is easier this way as you need to be looking at your enemies at all times when moving. What bothers me is that your position often somehow locks and you cannot look elsewhere for a second or two. Combat can often play out very unsmoothly, you sway your weapon, yet cannot hit the enemy at all, your spear/mace/flail, somehow hits behind the enemy or through the enemy without touching them. As for boss battles, I did like the first two, but the rest are pretty bad. It's a combination of awkward physics and their massive health bars which make it all unfun. Also, there is supposed to be some magic system as you can upgrade your magic, but I have doubts that it actually exist as the game never gave any spells or anything to use and I searched the whole map. When you run, enemies sometimes spawn just in front of you as the game takes too long to load them in. But the worst thing about this game which is an absolute deal breaker is the map and level design. It is pretty much a tiny open world. The problem is that it is more or less a labyrinth and everything looks the same. Seriously, the game has 4 areas that differ by a slight colour shade and that's about it. And the game does not have a map... It can be super disorienting and I guarantee that everyone will get lost in this game at least a few times. The whole world is merely trees, bushes, crates, an occasional brick debris, and tons and tons of spike walls. 2/10
The long-awaited origin story of that big, scary crow from Dark Souls.
Game doesn't have any settings you can change. Because of that I was getting ~40fps. After playing like that for 20 minutes I give up.
This is a really fun Soulslike that really nails the exploration in particular. It's a little scuffed in some aspects, but still a great time so far.
The combat and movement feel extremely sluggish and unresponsive; just getting your weapon to aim the right direction is a pain, and the hitboxes only seem to work arbitrarly: sometimes your weapon will go straight through an enemy and not hit, while other times enemies will hit you from afar or through your shield. It feels like a chore to kill even basic enemies.
Featherfall, developed and published by Sokpop Collective, is a compact souls-like action RPG that distills the essence of methodical combat and atmospheric exploration into a short but memorable adventure. True to Sokpop’s philosophy of creating experimental, focused experiences, Featherfall does not aim for massive scale or sprawling open-world complexity. Instead, it delivers a tight, self-contained journey that emphasizes deliberate movement, strategic combat, and a moody, minimalist world suspended high above the clouds. You begin as a small bird hatching into a hostile environment, a premise that immediately establishes both vulnerability and curiosity. From the outset, Featherfall frames its adventure around survival and growth. The world is divided into interconnected regions floating among the clouds, each filled with undead creatures and twisted adversaries that feel both surreal and threatening. Exploration is largely non-linear, encouraging players to discover shortcuts, hidden paths, and alternate routes through layered level design. The absence of a traditional map reinforces a sense of disorientation and discovery, making each new area feel earned rather than handed to the player. Combat is the foundation of the experience, and Featherfall draws clear inspiration from the souls-like genre. Every encounter demands attention. Enemies hit hard, stamina management matters, and reckless aggression is punished quickly. Attacks feel weighty, and the deliberate pacing of movement requires players to read enemy patterns carefully before committing to strikes. Dodging and spacing become essential skills, especially during boss encounters, where mastering timing often determines success. While the game does not introduce an overwhelming number of mechanics, its simplicity works in its favor, allowing players to focus on positioning and tactical awareness. Weapon variety adds meaningful depth to the relatively short campaign. Swords, spears, and more unconventional tools like whips or chains each provide distinct reach and attack arcs. Some weapons favor defensive spacing, while others reward close-quarters aggression. Armor and shields offer further customization, subtly shifting playstyles without complicating the core design. Progression systems are present but restrained—stat upgrades and equipment choices enhance survivability and damage output without overshadowing player skill as the primary driver of success. The bosses serve as highlights of the journey. Each one tests a different aspect of combat mastery, from pattern recognition to positioning under pressure. These encounters often require patience and adaptation rather than brute force. While the overall difficulty is approachable compared to larger souls-like titles, the game still demands focus and learning. Failures feel instructive rather than arbitrary, encouraging players to refine their approach with each attempt. Visually, Featherfall embraces a somber and subdued aesthetic. Environments are minimalistic yet evocative, using color palettes and lighting to create a melancholic atmosphere. Floating islands, ominous skies, and quiet spaces between battles reinforce a sense of isolation. The soundtrack and ambient sound design further amplify this mood, remaining understated but effective in sustaining tension. Rather than relying on cinematic spectacle, the game builds atmosphere through restraint and subtlety. One of the defining aspects of Featherfall is its brevity. Most players can complete the adventure within a few hours, but that compact length ensures that the experience remains focused and cohesive. There is little filler content, and each region introduces new enemies or challenges that justify its inclusion. For players seeking a concise but satisfying action RPG, this design is refreshing. However, those expecting extensive world-building or long-term progression systems may find the scope limited. Technical rough edges are present in small ways. Occasional movement quirks or hit detection inconsistencies can momentarily disrupt the flow of combat. Navigation without a map can also lead to confusion when backtracking. Yet these imperfections feel characteristic of a small-scale indie project rather than debilitating flaws. The core mechanics remain solid enough that these issues rarely overshadow the overall experience. Ultimately, Featherfall stands as a testament to Sokpop Collective’s ability to distill complex genres into accessible, compact formats. It captures the tension and satisfaction of souls-like combat within a minimalist, atmospheric world that values focus over excess. While it may not offer the sprawling depth of larger action RPGs, it succeeds as a concentrated and thoughtfully designed adventure. For players interested in a short, challenging journey that balances exploration, combat, and moody atmosphere, Featherfall offers a surprisingly rich experience within its modest runtime. THE BEST GAME IVE EVER PLAYED nah thats a lie but its pretty good
Jest top down soulslikiem w uroczym stylu graficznym, do którego sokpop nas przyzwyczaił.
