I'm genuinely shocked how this game has so many good reviews. As a warning, this is a 10 year old mobile game that they ported to PC without bothering to make any quality of life changes and only adapted the controls. They most likely won't fix a single thing about this game. First off this game is horribly unbalanced, you can have level and type advantage but the evo's have ultimate moves that can still kill in one hit. In the starting area, you have a lvl 5 evo and the wild evo are around lvl 2-6 but the 1st arena (gym) has up to lvl 20 and there are no wild battles that give you significant EXP so you will be grinding for a long time. On top of all this they expect you to be farming the arena multiple times to earn money and gain EXP, so most of your time will be spent grinding instead of exploring. My biggest gripe with this game is the catching mechanics, they made the catch rate so ridiculously low even for basic wild evo's it's painful. On top of that if the evo is less than half health they have a chance to run away which wastes your time even more. I got to the 4th arena when I realized there is absolutely no story in this game and the lore is made up of quick little blurbs in the museum because the overworld NPC characters never say anything worthwhile or related to any story. I'm not going to finish this game as I struggled to find a reason to continue playing, for a creature collector the collecting is not fun and the raising aspect is not fun either. This game is simply for people who don't mind going from one area to the next with unchanging grindy gameplay. The only positive thing I can say about this is that the game never crashed for me. I've played many pokemon-like games and I think this might be the worst one
I am honestly disappointed. The game is above average for a mobile game, but as a PC game it does not hold up. - It is unbalanced (attacks can one-hit your Creo even though both are at the same level) - A ton of quality of life stuff is missing (when I choose a new skill I can't see how many rounds it needs to recharge, the UI is confusing due to being mobile optimized, UI is super slow probably because it's touch optimized, you have to click on an item to see what it does, just navigating to it does nothing, the first option for retrieving a Creo from the Center is 'release' which I find dangerous, at the start of your turn the attack you chose springs back to the first attack instead of staying on the last attack) - The port is poorly done (even though it says you can play it with a controller there are elements you need a mouse for, which is completely unnecessary; texts still say 'touch' sometimes etc.) - The story is basically non-existent so far. There is apparently an evil group of people? That might or might not have something to do with my father disappearing? It is not clear why I am the one investigating this and why authorities tell me, that maybe I can get some information out of people? I am just a random person who's dad is missing? Why should anyone tell me anything? And why do I need to go into Arenas if I need to find my dad? It does not make any sense at all. - All the characters are dull. I am very tempted to not speak to anyone ever again because it does barely give me any infos or any interesting conversations - the world is EMPTY. There are some bags laying around and a ton of Evokers waiting at every corner, but that is it. The CreoCo is two rooms that are empty except for the recharge computer and the CreoCenter and a tiny corner with someone who sells you items. Somewhere there are usually two people standing around talking nonsense. That's it. Why do you need two rooms for that? Why make the space so big and empty? Cities are also vast with nothing in it. Nothing to interact with except some NPCs that don't do anything interesting. - What is up with that arrow that shows me where to go? I have a log that tells me my next destination, people tell me where to go... the areas are not THAT vast so you don't need to tell me where to go. Let me explore. I haven't found an option yet to disable it, it is very annoying. If you search for a Pokemon clone that is like the very first games, where you just go from city to city, beating the Arenas, then this might be for you.. The Positive: I love the battle system (except for it being unbalanced and the KI being an idiot) Moves having recovering time is fun in comparison to an SP system Also the art is really good The evolution system has a very interesting twist It's not buggy at all, I think they fixed those problems that others have mentioned. I might not finish this game, but I still have hope that there is something interesting happening. For now I continue playing because I need something to do while being sick and listening to podcasts. I hope they make a more interesting game the second time around, because this system has a lot of potential.
I spent a few hours with EvoCreo and it felt like a comfortable, offline-friendly take on the monstercatching formula.. The combat surprised me with a bit more depth than expected, even if the story often goes exactly where you think it will. I enjoyed my time with it, but it plays things safe enough that it rarely feels truly surprising.
game keep crashing went you switch Creo.
Full of nostalgia, it can be clanky at times, but I really had fun and I will play more and update this review.
Many of the negative reviews talk about the game freezing, crashing and the clunkiness of the game. Honestly I havent experienced any crashing, it does freeze occasionally but its not for long and I only notice it because the music stops. The Controls are weird at first and did not come naturally. Like clicking the little rectangle in the right hand corner to see your Party Creo, bag and to save. Also the swiping right on a Creo to see other stats and move sets. I also have a little issue where I cannot move right on Creo that are in my second slot. Once I figured the issue out though its easy to work around. The game is literally only 10 dollars. Its a fun creature collector similar to old school pokemon. So if you like Catching Creatures, Battling Trainers, Fighting an Evil Organization then I say buy the game!
I have always loved the game on mobile since back to when it came out so i was very very excited to see the game (and the sequel) come to steam. While there were a lot of bugs on release date, the developer has been very receptive on replying to reports in the discussion and rolling out fixes and bugs. If you're a fan of the "pokemon-like" (i.e) monster collecting games i do very much believe this will be a title that is worth picking up, as it introduces fun mechanics that i haven't really seen elsewhere. Short tldr of the positives and negatives under here as to not write a whole wall of text. + positives: unique and fun creature designs animations for each move interesting evolution mechanique (as like in the eevee type of method but achieved by using a particular type of move typ enough) carefully and fun designed abilities and how they are of use in the overworld you're always able to change out your creo's move and abilities pool at any times has that pokemon like feel you always chase to have in these games - negatives: can get grindy at times (be it for exp or money but that can be negated once you get enough skill tree points) you still have to manually do a swiping motion in the creo profiles (not that annoying but it might be) lower star creos and the disadvantage they give you (stars affect how much it's worth it to level up a creo, at minimum you'd want to aim for 5stars. This annoyance is especially prevalent with searching for an already rare creo in the wild.)
Seems enjoyable with a lot of content for $10. I'm already about 20 hours in and haven't even touched over half the game, and there's likely more stuff to do after that as well. To be honest I was initially a little on the fence for this review, but overall my impression is this game is good. They give the player a ton of choices in what to do. The reason I was on the fence was the start of the game seemed obnoxiously hard. Like I had my level 5 deer thing while random level 3-4 critters were outpacing my damage. The start is made especially rough as you won't have the perk that reduces item prices, so you're paying high prices for healing items with low amounts of money from trainers. After I caught a couple more creos and leveling them a bit I was off to the races and having fun, but I could see it being a quit moment for a lot of people. I've also experienced some minor bugs and glitches but nothing too crazy, by and large I'm impressed and plan on finishing this at a leisurely pace.
It's a great game. Nice art, smooth gameplay, I like it a lot. Played it when I was young for the first time on mobile. Love to see it on Steam.
