Moonpod's Starscape mixes old school arcade game play values with characterization and an involving plot to deepen the whole experience. With most of its crew missing and its weapons systems ruined, the space research station Aegis is all but lost.

Played this one before the days of Steam, back when the game was advertised on websites as a banner ad. A classic indie game that deserves a whole lot more attention and love than it got. Starts off a bit slow with a bit too much dialog I'll admit, but give it time and be patient, and after a while it becomes a really addictive and fast paced action/strategy game. It's like, if Asteroids had an open-ish map where while you're fighting stuff and mining resources in one location, the enemies are doing the same in other locations and taking away your potential resources to build better ships and guns and stuff. Also, the character art looks like something from deviantART. However, the ships and gameplay graphics look great! It has aged fairly well (but be warned that the max resolution is 800x600 with no widescreen modes!!) More people need to know about this game. So... go play it or somethin'!
Awesome game. Makes for a decent 4X style game. Can't really expand your ownings, but can research and ugprade equipment, explore the place, mine materials to improve your odds. Very very fun, got 21 hours into it and a year later I'm coming back to play some more!
I have seen this game ten years ago. I bought it about five years ago from a non-Steam service and promptly lost the ability to play it. I saw it up on a flash sale and promptly bought it. It is a testament to the game that it's imagery stayed prominent for so long with me. Either way, the game is SPAZ before SPAZ existed. Do not buy it expecting the same polish from a game with a decade of tech advancement inbetween. That said, it's a fun romp through space mining resoruces, builing tech and blasting aliens. Story is shaping up decent for the first hour of game too. We'll see where it goes.
This is actually a really fun game at first, when you are first upgrading and manipulating your ship. You can make missile boats, blaster-based ships, you get option drones to fire when you shoot, and so on. Mining is actually somewhat interesting to fool around with early on. It, however, gets repetitive, starting with mining, and then upgrading, and finally the combat. The final ship components cause all end-game ships to look the same, and the final boss has a stupid mechanic which requires you to either have a way more responsive ship than the game gives you, or to angle a shot in a way that gives you a generally unsatisfying win because you didn't do the high-agility maneuvers that it feels like you should do. It caps the game off with not even allowing you to have a solid victory in the final "cutscene." Overall, a good 75% of a game marred by an overly repetitive final zone. If you don't mind this, and the late 90s graphics, go ahead and get it! It's actually pretty fun, reminiscent of Asteroids with an upgradeable ship and uh, better graphics, though still a far cry from anything you'd call "modern."
I think this was my very first purchase on steam that wasn't immediately related to OG steam like counterstrike or something. Anyways this is the canonical precursor to space pirates and zombies, which is the precursor to starsector and starsector is magical. This game is magical too but it's showing. It's still arcade fun and the music still holds up. It's good albeit old as ♥♥♥♥, but so am i, and i'm amazing. honest 8/10 for the time it came out.
So I played this game and get all the achievement. This game and me have a long history. I got this game about 15 years ago when it wasn't on Steam. It was one of my favorite game back then. Once every 1-3 years, I revisit it again and again. The game is pretty simple, and short. It's make sense for a <10$ price tag. But the pacing and progression is quite decent. I find myself enjoy playing it from start to finish without feeling burn out. And the game end just when I needed. I will know that I don't have to touch it until months later when I starting to miss it again. With different run, I try different way. There aren't many weapons, but each of them can hold their own against all enemies. I find myself trying a missile only run on one run, blaster only run on another run. The graphic is quite dated, with maximum resolution of 800x600 pixels so it's better for me to play it on windowed. I don't mind since I'm quite a retro player. Story wise, I have no complain. Overall, it a decent casual top down shooter. I hope you will enjoy.
Its a great old game and I usually don't play games like this. I like the grind on it for metals and equipment. I found this game looking for something like Armada on the Dreamcast and i'm happy I found this!
A great top-down space shooter with a plot. Spiritually it would be a prequel to Space Pirates and Zombies. Graphics are exactly what they should be, art in the cutscenes is a little wonky. Wish it had even more plot and more choices. Game is a bit too big for how interesting it is. Interface is a tiny bit clumsy. A few things like some items aren't even capitalized. Weapons aren't sorted 1-4, it might go 3-1-2-4. Could have used a little more polish before release but nothing glitchy. Wish they'd made a sequel.
I Initially picked this up when it first came out. It's still fun once you get past the secondary characters and get to the core of the game. It's sad that the resolution is still stuck at 800x600, small even for the time it was made. Still it's fun to play.
