About
El Hijo - A Wild West Tale is an exciting spaghetti-western stealth game, in which you guide a 6-year-old boy on his quest to find his mother.
As a six-year-old, "El Hijo" must always sneak past the dangers of his world. As he overcomes his challenges, he gains self-confidence and cunning and with it more schemes to get past his foes. On his journey, he will find himself in a remote monastery, a harsh and unforgiving stretch of desert and a frontier town rife with crime and villainy.
The journey begins when a farmer and her son El Hijo are attacked by bandits who raze their farm to the ground. The mother decides to leave "El Hijo" at a secluded monastery in order to protect him. However, El Hijo decides that the monastic life is not for him and decides to escape. "El Hijo - A Wild West Tale" is a non-violent stealth game. Violence is instead exchanged with the mischievous, playfulness of a young child. Shadowplay is in the core of the game and "El Hijo" will often have to hide. Without needlessly adding new mechanics, the gameplay is extended naturally, as variations of existing mechanics are gradually introduced and then combined with each other to increase the challenge. These twists on familiar mechanics are often a product of the varied, increasingly dangerous environments that "El Hijo" must traverse to reach his ultimate goal.

The artwork and direction have a gentle charm that leaves a strong impression. Paired with well-crafted, non-violent stealth gameplay, the Western setting unfolds as a quiet story of growth.
El Hijo is a top-down stealth game that sees you playing as a young boy set upon reuniting with his mother. Taking place in the wild west, you must sneak your way past bandits and survive the harshness of your environment. That, and tackle with the game's many technical issues. The biggest problem with El Hijo is that it feels like a constant battle to play. Its controls are wonky and unresponsive, which is not exactly good when you need to react to situations quickly. Its stealth mechanics are poorly refined, coupled with AI that is just downright unfair. It gets to a point where playing it feels like a chore, and it doesn't take long for this to set in. The game does have merit, though. A good story married with stunning presentation and a charming visual style give it a definitive edge. The level design is expansive, with each one feeling alive. There's always lots of things going on, and some set pieces really do catch the eye. Unfortunately, I don't think all of that is enough for me to be able to recommend El Hijo, simply because it fails at what it sets out to be: a stealth game. If your a die hard fan of stealth games, or wild west settings, maybe get this on a heavy discount. Otherwise, I struggle to find reasons to purchase it. como pode um menino de 6 anos ter feito isso tudo..............

Stealth mechanics is simplistic, instructions are sometimes unclear. Considering the game’s price $19.99 for just 3.5-4 hours of gameplay with a handful of slide-show cutscenes, it feels expensive. I finished the Monastery area, about 1/3 of the full game before I stopped. Normally I prefer to complete a game, but here the sneaking methods are repetitive and limited. The boy can throw rocks to distract guards at first, later swapping to a noise-making toy, but it functions identically aside from the range. Hiding spots (vases, bookshelves, coffins) are just change of skins of the same mechanic. Puzzles often boil down to pulling or pushing boxes and ladders in various locations (library, garden, tomb), again with nothing but skin changes. Later levels just add enemies to slow you down, but don’t change the experience. The mother character uses a sling to break barrels and locks, but the game doesn’t explain this upfront. When I first encountered a glowing lock, I assumed I needed a key, only to discover later that the sling breaks it. Similarly, crucial objectives like activating bombs lack clear instructions. If you miss the one at the start, too bad you have to backtrack all the way across the map. Finding your way can also be frustrating. As the boy, I often wandered back to places I’d already visited. When playing as the mother, the map felt larger with little clarity on where to go. Maybe the Devs want you to fully explore to find extra rewards like cheering up children, but this doesn’t feel like a meaningful reward. If I knew certain paths were pointless I would have skipped them. As a stealth game, I expect responsive controls. Most actions are fine, but interactions with boxes and ladders are awkward, you must stand at just the right angle to interact, which can be frustrating when guards are nearby. The gameplay is too repetitive, though perhaps the experience would be shorter than 2 hours without this padding. Overall, I rate the game negatively: it feels overpriced for its lack of creativity and repetitive mechanics. At $9.99, I might give it a positive, but $19.99 is too much for what’s offered. 3/10 mom leaves you in a church cult so she can go kill people with TNT. thats as far a i made into into the story just kept waiting for game play to evolve and become fun. it didnt! just kept getting harder with less and less checkpoints - get stuck the edges of stuff all the time. need to move away from the object and around the tiny micro bump. this will get you caught. - part where you needed to sneak on the other side of an ox - crouch on edge is janky and doesn't always work.... i got caught a lot + art + works just fine on windows 7
Genre
Ein Isometrisches Schleich/Rätsel Adventure
Story
A simple and fairly easy stealth game. Most areas (puzzles) are not too hard and I could see this is geared towards a younger player. A very kid/family orientated game. Not really any violence but there are places where children are shown in a unpleasant environment. In the end, you are inspiring these kids and freeing them from said hardships. Graphics are cute and pleasant. Game play is straight-forward. Controls are basic and easy to learn/use. Music is very nice and fits well with the game. About 10 hours of play for me across 30 levels. Well worth the on sale price I got.
