A girl leads a boy on an allegoric fantasy journey outside the walls of his village in this point & click adventure game with the charm & gorgeous art of rpg’s like Trine.
The game is actually chapter one of a set, and after the ending, the groundwork is laid for chapter two. I’m sure it will be as charming as this initial installment has proved to be. Gameplay: The music puzzles are what really stands apart in Song of Seven. Gameplay consists of the typical for adventure games like Deponia, but with less pointing, less clicking, & less chores. This creates an easy moving adventure game that leaves room for more of the things we like in a good p&c adventure: music, cut scenes & dialog. The dialog options alternate between listening & choice-based answers. The choice based dialog is rather simplified, and can end the game suddenly if you make the obvious wrong choices within the framework of the allegory, because our character is supposed to be learning something from this narrative. Wrong answers would be the equivalent of failing the mission. I finished the whole game in 5 hours, even after having to restart it after a big delay, because I got a new computer. I’d missed one of the achievies in that play through, so it only took 20 minutes to run back through the first chapter to catch that. Narrative: Humor and nostalgia-filled moments lead you through a lovely mythological tale of a lost hunter goddess. The boy lives in a village that has been overtaken by fear to the point that they live locked in their own city walls. Then a girl shows up outside the gate to draw the boy away into the forest around his city. Graphics/Art: Camera controls allow you to fully appreciate the art that illustrates the story. It is illustrated with deep hues of earth-tones, that bring out panoramas & sunsets in full color splendor. The graphics perform well with a good framerate. I experienced no drops or lags at all. Just a smooth, pleasant play-through without any difficulties. Certainly a game that is family friendly in every aspect. I saw no bugs or graphical errors either. Pros: *Socially/ psychologically oriented narrative *Simple mechanics *Musical immersion *Good soundtrack Cons: *Not as challenging as many p&c adventures. *Probably quick gameplay for faster gamers (maybe 3 hours for some)
The Overture is the 1st of five planned episodes in The Song of Seven; a myth-based allegory of overcoming crippling fears. I highly recommend this musical adventure for gamers of all ages.
TL;DR - 9/10 "A charmingly picturesque and tranquil adventure filled with spontaneous characters and gorgeuous music." Ah! You want to know more? Good choice. Okay, so The Song of Seven: Chapter One holds a beauty I wish I could share with the whole world. Everything from the quirky and unusual characters, to the enigmatic adventure which unfolds seamlessly before your very eyes. Simply put, I love it. To an extent where I can fully immerse myself into this game and take on the role of young Kiba as he explores the vast world around him. He is a solitary boy, who only knows the fences of the village he was brought up in. But one day a storm has struck the peaceful village, and an opportunity of a lifetime strikes Kiba. Will he take it? That, my friend... is up to you! *cough* Ahem! In all seriousness, if you want an alluring adventure filled with fun, fantasy and mystery then The Song of Seven might be just right for you. These loveable characters will create an uplifting journey for you which is sure to be taken in a heartbeat. This comedic tale is certainly one to take part in and I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do. So what are you waiting for, go and start your adventure in this world of mystery and find the purpose of the lands around you! I hope you enjoy the game as much as I have and I cannot wait for the second chapter. Best of luck! Footnote - My new favourite instrument is the lyre... I want one! Footnote #2 - Luna will keep you hooked on this game, she at least did for me...
Analise de The Song of Seven: Chapter One. (Brazilian Portuguese) Review of The Song of Seven: Chapter One.(English one - A bit below)
Resumo
The song of seven é um incrivel jogo criado pela Enlightened Games.
O unico jogo que me surpreendeu nesse aspecto tanto quanto "The song of Seven" foi "Ori and the blind forest" então da pra imaginar quão bom ela e ^^.
Gameplay:
English Version

Sumarry
The song of seven is an incredible game created by Enlightened Games. The game tells the story of a boy called Kiba, that has passed his whole life "traped" on his little village(kami),intimidated by the rumors, beliefs and taughts of his parents and the whole village , that outside the village's bounds/fence exist a great evil growing to destroy their world(Pria). But everything changes when part of the fence gets broken, and kiba is sent to fix it, there his curiosity takes the place of his fear and he starts his adventure on this beautiful world full of mysteries.
Graphics:
The graphics of this game are SPECTACULAR(belive me, i'm not exagerating using caps^^), the art, the style, the colors and graphic effects are a huge delight to the eyes, part of the style reminds me of "Brothers: tale of two sons", but more beautiful and detailed. Below some pictures taken by me.
Soundtrack:
Another aspect where this games surprised me, the soundtrack of this game is completly original, beautiful, soft and harmonious, like the graphics are a delight to the eyes so is the soundtrack to the ears. The only game that surprised me on this aspect as much as "the song of seven" was "Ori and the Blind forest", so you can imagine how good it is ^^.
Gameplay:
The gamestyle It's surely a combination I never have seen: a gameplay that hearkens back to old school point and click, inventory-based adventure/puzzle games but uses third person analog controls for a more updated, immersive feeling. The song of seven is a magnificent game, it's one of those games good to be played in any situation, mainly after a tiring and stressing day at work when you need to relax.Either the graphics and soundtrack are are pleasant, I confess that I am happy that it's the chapter 1, because can't wait for the next chapter. Let's help the developers with this game , that in my opinion should be on the 1st page of steam. И The Song of Seven: Chapter One
The Song of Seven hineinziehen. The Song of Seven abrunden. +++
This game charmed my pants off. It's beautiful, to start, and I don't think that's arguable. Try arguing, because you can't. The color choices, the lines, the shadows, the textures, the character models...! Okay, it looks good. But how is it under the hood? The tone means a lot. The musician is talented, and who knows whether the music complements the art or vice versa, but they are great. I might prefer a few more melodic hooks, but everything meshes so well there's no complaint. The writing and the plot are a little thin for my story-driven mind, but this isn't a bad implementation so much as a personal preference. I like to read a lot, even in games, and the lack of deep conversations or voice work makes it a little less than my tea cup desires. It's tame. That said, it's not a fault so much as an aspect you should consider before you definitely buy this! You have moderate text to read, and it's to-the-point. This can be a huge benefit for a lot of gamers. The world map is a beautiful touch for a point-and-click style game, making the whole experience almost feel JRPG-esque. The scope of the in-game universe becomes a true reality for the main character, and this feeling bleeds into the player's hands the moment she/he leaves that claustrophobic village and enters a peaceful, 360 degree environment of shrunken ruins and villages and hillsides and rivers and broken aeroplane-things. I tend to nitpick, and I want to drop my (useless) advice all day on what could be improved, but the fact remains that The Song of Seven leaves a wonderful impact. It's a great game. It's easy to recommend and easier to talk about. You can feel subtle influences from Ico and Final Fantasy IX here and there as well, and in the best of ways: that is, there's creative inspiration rather than imitation. If you don't buy Chapter 01 then I definitely recommend you add the series to your wishlist, because if this is what the first episode can offer you'll want to be there for the next ones.
The game is silent - no music, and most importantly - no voices. That makes the game blunt. It also runs awfully, controlls are terrible, confusing and a nightmare for point&click adventure gamer (tried to play w/ keyboard). Can't say anything about the story and characters because couldn't endure more than 20 min. I never write reviews but this game was such a dissapointment!
Let me begin by saying the game is beautiful. Really, the aestetics of the game are top notch, unfortunately that is all there is to it. This is nothing more than a early access game in disguise. The first chapter gives 1-2 hours of uninteresting play, supposedly the following chapters will improve the over' all experience bbut I'm not convinced.
Explore a world
Chapter one did not connect with me. The surrounding area looks inviting and you really want to explore all the nooks and crannys. Well, problem is you are unable to explore it, any deviation from the very linear story is blocked by invisible walls.
Solve puzzles
The puzzles are, well, no good. The most difficult puzzle involves playing notes on the lyre. Unfortunately it is not very well executed and the difficulty lies in playing on the lyre which is a pita. As if this wasn't enough they make you
perform this puzzle three times
! The best puzzle involves a dream and while interesting I never got the feeling of accomplishment. Actually, none of the puzzles made you feel anything good.
Whimsical characters
I felt nothing while playing and the characters are uninteresting. In general the dialogue is uninteresting and there is no real sense of actually being able to influence. It is all scripted from start to finish.
Adventure awaits
Yeah, about that. I'm still waiting. I was hoping, and expecting, the game to "begin" and sort of unlock all the areas but that never happened, instead the game suddenly ended .. my jaw dropped.
Controls
I completed the game via Steam Link using Steam Controller. The controls are confusing and do not help the overall experience, especially when doing anything involving the inventory.
Conclusion
I'd stay away from this title until atleast chapter 3-4 is out to get a feel of where the developers are taking this.
An absolutely lovely game, really like the story and it's got some interesting puzzles. The underlaying message is great as well. Really love the style and the way the game is made.
