As a huge Suikoden fan, of course I had been waiting for its spiritual successor, so naturally I got into Eiyuden Chronicle. The funny thing is… I actually started this game thinking this was the main game. I played for a while and kept thinking… this feels strangely small for the whole “Hundred Heroes” game. Then I finally realized that no, this is basically a smaller prequel/spin-off leading into the actual main game. So first of all, don’t get them mixed up like I did. This is definitely a much smaller and more linear experience. You go through areas that feel almost like dungeon runs, fight enemies, gather materials, complete quests for townspeople and slowly help build up the town. And honestly? I enjoyed it. The town-building side was fun, and I really liked the three main characters together. Especially the kangaroo man, He was hilarious. Some of the comedy felt so unfiltered and random. Gameplay-wise, it also gave me this old-school feeling with the platform-style movement and battles. There was something nostalgic about it. The story was interesting enough, but again, this is not the main event. It clearly feels like a smaller introduction to the world before Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. I’ll be honest, I probably continued all the way to the end mainly because I knew I wanted to play the main game afterwards, and there are some little references and connections here and there. So no, I wouldn’t call it amazing or one of the best RPGs I’ve played. But I enjoyed it for what it was.
wonderful
Pretty good. A little easy on the 1st playthrough. Hard mode should just be a setting instead of a NG+ option. The characters and plot are ok. The dialogue is coherent. Some of the stories and interactions were humorous. It's definitely a charming game. The combat is fun and full of bursts. They could have tightened it up a teency bit by getting rid of combo delays. Progression is a bit underwhelming, with abilities that get better but stay teetering on the edge of being truly useful for the level design. 8/10
love it. wanna try another ver after finishing this game
