About
It’s been 20 years since the events of the original game. The virus won, and humanity is slowly dying. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim who delivers goods, brings news, and connects the few remaining survivor settlements in barren lands devastated by the zombie virus. However, your true goal is to find your little sister Mia, who you left behind as a kid to escape Dr. Waltz's torturous experiments. Haunted by the past, you eventually make the decision to confront it when you learn that Mia may still be alive in Villedor — the last city standing on Earth.
You quickly find yourself in a settlement torn by conflict. You’ll need to engage in creative and gory combat, so hone your skills to defeat hordes of zombies and make allies. Roam the city, free run across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot in remote areas, and be wary of the night. With every sunset, monsters take control of the streets.

Fifteen years ago, humanity was devastated by the Fall — a catastrophic event that would change the world forever. With the Harran virus spreading around the globe, people quickly found out that all hope for tomorrow is lost. By 2036, only a few settlements remain, and humanity is slowly dying, making way for the new species out there — a horde of relentless zombies.

Welcome to Villedor, one of the last bastions of humanity. During the day, survivors still try to have a life here and find a false sense of normalcy. Relationships are formed, dreams are dreamed, and life carries on. On the surface, everything seems… fine. Until sunset, that is. With the last ray of light dying out, other, more dreadful, dwellers of The City crawl out of their gloomy interiors, taking over the streets. If you are not vigilant and stay out too long in the dark, you may never return.

Not all fights can be won. Sometimes it’s best to run and, thankfully, you have the skills for it. Parkour lets you escape when odds are not in your favor. Jump from rooftop to rooftop, swing across the cityscape, ride ziplines, and much more. Whatever you do, experience a unique sense of freedom as you freerun across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot or while running away from the dangers of the night.

In a world as dangerous as this one, only the strongest survive. Whether you prefer to smash, slice or dismember those who stand in your way, you have to be creative about it to make it through. And who says you need weapons? Utilize the entirety of your parkour moveset to get the jump on your enemies. Learn the ways of combat and parkour to feel the crunch of skulls and slices of flesh as you swing weapons or use your moves to fend off any forms of danger. And let’s not forget that Villedor has weapons that put the most advanced post-apocalyptic armories to shame.

Surviving in Villedor is easier with friends. Team up with up to 3 other players and increase your chances out there. Unravel the story together, take on Pilgrim Outpost challenges, or simply wreak havoc on the city streets.

TLDR: A downgrade from the first Dying Light in all aspects. Don't bother with this one. Go (re)play the first. (Played on Hard difficulty) The story: it was never a strong point in the first game either, but the story and overall writing in DL2 is just laughably bad. Very predictable story beats, and the things you predict happening somehow turn out to be more ridiculous than you thought. As an example, the "unclimbable" VNC tower that is easier to climb than most of the things in the game has a very funny section where they are supposed to present this never seen before super dangerous zombie: the bomber. Except you see it fairly often in the open world, making the reveal a joke, trivialized by the fact that you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GUN. Probably an artifact of the game being updated over time, still very ridicolous. The environment: it feels like it was born out of a parkour tech demo rather than a city. It doesn't feel organic, it feels like it was made for parkouring rather than living. The biggest problem is that the environment is very, very repetitive. Safe houses are the same everywhere, be it on rooftops or underground in metro stations. Interiors of buildings also suffer from the same problem, there is very little variety overall, especially noticeable with special facilities like GRE buildings, they are copy pasted with minor variations, and power stations, dark hollows, windmills are not different. The atmosphere is not there either, be it at day or night, it just feels... cheap. Nights are nowhere as dangerous as the first game, you can literally run in front of volatiles and not alert them. When you end up getting chased, magically 5-6 volatiles appear out of thin air and start following you. It feels cheap, more of a nuisance than the intense chases you could end up in in DL1. You can just run around as if it was day, with the added nuisance (not danger) of volatiles just appearing out of nowhere. Music is mostly filler and doesn't really add or detract anything from the experience. The gameplay: I will get the biggest thing out first. Why is every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ single dialog a cutscene, and why is it cut up in multiple parts? There are main story missions where you have to talk to 6-7 people in a row all scattered a very short distance away, all cutscenes. People made fun of Starfield for the constant loading screens but this game is no better. Parkour feels like a downgrade. The very fun grapple hook from the first game was replaced by a swinging rope instead. Way slower and it feels like it interrupts or slows down the pacing of doing parkour. It is not helped by the sub par level design, it feels repetitive. The paraglider is ass to use. It works most of the time, and you really really notice when it doesn't (you die). Combat is roughly the same, with the addition of item statistics it can make for fun combinations, such as stamina regain on quick attack per target hit, you become a lawnmower. Other than that, nothing really shines. Item statistics seem like a tacked on thing "just because", they are ignorable for the most part and you cannot really tell they do anything with the exception of some (like the stamina regain on quick attack mentioned above) Plus they decided to have an upgrade system to usable items. You can upgrade your medkits to heal more and take less time to use, molotovs for more damage, things like that. It's not a good system as this pushes you to conserve items to craft these things when they are upgraded, leading you to never using them. Not that it matters anyway, because throwables are inconsequential. Be it molotovs, grenades, UV lights (that barely do anything) or firecrackers (useless), they don't do much overall. So the system, in my eyes, exists only for you to upgrade medkits and other healing items. Skills will unlock special moves such as a higher jump after jumping from a small obstacle, a longer jump, combat skills will give you the loved dropckick, grappling zombies, heavy attacks. which brings me to the next point: Controls: it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dire that this needs it's own paragraph. First off, the controls aren't always responsive or recognized at all. I am not sure what's up with that but it's especially noticeable when doing parkour. They decided to go with a quickslot system where you can change with 1,2,3,4. And then they put into these quickslots tools like the grapple hook and the UV light. No dedicated healing button, you gotta select your bandages and then hold for a bit and then you heal up. If you don't have your medkits selected then you have to cycle in the middle of combat. Not great. Combat and parkour skills have their own keybinds instead of being seamlessly integrated which are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awkward to use and to remember, so for me those skills are just filler in the skill tree never to be used. Coop experience: not great. Plentiful of bugs and jank. Elevators are the bane of any coop player's existence, as you WILL fall through them every time, usually softlocking. Every single stupid action requires all players to be present. Want to flip a switch or open a door? All players must be present. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridicolous. There has been a bug since launch where the host cannot respawn and has to wait 40s for the bleedout to end before respawning. Still not fixed to this day. Coop progress does not carry over in your own save, only your character stats do. Playing this game made me want to play DL1 instead. It feels like a downgrade in all regards. And why is there live service in this game? What the ♥♥♥♥ is up with daily and weekly quests for some currency ♥♥♥♥?
