Unfinished game, odd and mostly unhelpful UI. Dishonest dev who has been promising a finished game for years. Avoid this one unless you're a masochist and/or really like having to use a walkthrough to finish an incomplete, odd game.
Leaving a review as a warning to potential buyers. This is yet another early access title that the developer has made promise after promise of a full release coming, and it never happens. I bought it during the 2022 Winter sale because the dev said it would be done soon. Here we are October 2023 and the game hasn't been updated in 10 months. Until recently the dev hadn't made a post on the forums in 4 months. While the dev responded to a few threads this week, he pretended to ignore the 2 recent threads asking about an update. Unprofessional to say the least, when someone has your money and doesn't even have the courtesy to give their customers an update on their broken promises. In November of 2022 the dev said "The content is fully here, only a bit of polishing and balancing is still to finish.". Almost a year later and "a bit" still isn't done and no patches since January of 2023, and the patch before that was in July 2021. Meanwhile, the dev continues to gladly accept your money for an unfinished game that first released in 2015.
Stuck in Early Access forever.
played for 10 hours and that is enough, just about 8 years in EA...damn. Will not go back to this. will go back to grimrock,, fall of the dungeon guardians or wizardry proving grounds. Being in EA for so long should get Devs banned from doing EA again.
I am a big fan of dungeon crawling games like this one. I have been waiting for this game to leave early access for many years because I like to play games that are finished (don't care if they are fully polished or not). I read that this game was basically complete, so I decided to break my own rule and buy an early access game. The game certainly has some issues, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. For me it scratched that itch of playing old school games like Dungeon Master, Black Crypt, Eye of the Beholder series, etc. Since I had a bunch of questions going into this game, I will try to answer those same questions since I have now finished the game (WARNING: some Spoilers revealed beyond this point!!) 1. Is the game complete? Yes, I was able to get to an ending. Don't know if there are multiple endings (other than a death scene), but the ending I got to was good and added to the story and the characters. 2. Are the achievements working? Yes, I got most of them. I couldn't complete the achievements regarding collecting a certain number of gold coins. You start the game with just a few and I didn't see a way to get more. I didn't find any in the game. I read where there was going to be a shop to sell items to in the town, but I didn't see that when I played the game. 3. Is the game more combat focused or puzzle focused? I found the game to be heavily puzzle focused. For me the puzzles were the hardest part of the game. I played on hard difficulty and found the combat to be fairly easy. In particular the puzzles in the Black Mage part of the game were not obvious to me and I needed to use a guide or I would have never made it through that part. I would have preferred less puzzles and more monsters to fight. 4. How does the game look graphically? I thought the game looked very nice. The different areas had their own unique feel. I also liked the music. I had no trouble getting into the game and losing several hours before i realized it. 5. How does the leveling system work? You get experience for using your skills: fighter, ninja, priest and wizard. Everyone can use all skills and can be developed into what you want. Your main fighter can cast spells, your mage can swing a sword, etc. As skill levels increase, you get to add attribute points to your character (strength, dexterity, constitution, wisdom, intelligence), which then increases your character's hit points, magic points and/or stamina. The progression system is simple, but it worked well enough for me. 6. How about bugs/other issues? I ran into a few issues with losing important items. I was trying to place a gem stone on the screen and threw it by accident and it disappeared (not good). I had to reload a previous save. Also had a situation where you had to stay walking on a carpet for a puzzle, but I couldn't as a burned up the carpet looking for secrets. I didn't realize that would prevent me from completing the puzzle and advancing. My advice is that you need to save often, but that is my advice with most games. In terms of stability, I didn't experience any crashes or freezes in the game. 7. Is the game very big? Lots of secrets? There were many sections, some larger than others, but all put together the game is good sized. I spent extra time in most sections looking for secrets, so my play time is much longer than what would be needed to finish the game. I probably found about 75-80% of the secrets, so will likely try another play through in a few months from now. The secrets are shown for each section (example: 5 out of 15 found). I don't think there is a total of all secrets listed anywhere, but I am guessing it must be close to a hundred. In conclusion, I have no regrets for buying this game. It was obvious to me that the development team put a lot of effort and care into making the game. I had fun playing the game. I only wish there were more Dungeon Crawling games like this being made today.
I bought this game when it was first released, It's been in early access for so long I've lost interest. If there were a money back option I'd take it. Not recommended at all.
Another abandon EA game. It seems to be the norm these days.
