Drew and the Floating Labyrinth has its faults, but overall I think it is a lovely little game. The story is melancholy, so you have to be in a contemplative mood to fully enjoy it, but it is written surprisingly well for an indie game and is accompanied wonderfully by Incompetech's music that is used liberally throughout. The minimalist graphics are very well done and suit the story beautifully. The game is relatively short -- I finished it completely in less than two hours, with the rest of my playtime being a wait for the trading cards to drop -- but I found it pleasant and enjoyable throughout that time, with only a couple of minor greivances: a single 'freeze' that required a visit to Task Manager, and the very slow transitions between levels and the menu system. I wouldn't recommend buying this game at full price, but I would certaily recommend picking it up on sale or, as I did, as part of a bundle.
Tags: Casual - Object Routes & Flinger Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Bland, unimaginative, and vaguely unfinished looking. Walk on invisible floors to spawn cubes that then point you to the location of the next cube to walk on. Bland slow piano tracks. Bland infiniwhite backgrounds. Untextured and colored 3D cubes floating in space. Cubes actually point the direction you must walk as they spawn so the game mechanics are all about camera rotation to spot that hint and dealing with the vaguely unpleasant controls. Game sometimes drop a tiny hint of voice acting but not enough to hook the player or really provide a good narrative plot. I liked how the engine keeps track of the relative angle to the protag and how they put in more assets to reflect how your character should appear at said angles. Adds a really nice touch of 3Dish to the 2Dsprite. The sprite itself is however, bland. Eventually there are multiple pathways, and the hints are hard to spot so you often have to tunnel through to get different vantage points to see more hints and puzzle out how to reach the level exit. Gameplay is slow and repetitive and monotone.
This game has some interesting ideas, and it's not totally bad, but I can't recommend it, especially at full price. My biggest complaint is the constant spinning of the screen that you need to do in order to figure out where to go next. You're constantly changing your viewpoint and, thus, the directions you have to go for Drew to do your bidding. While not terribly difficult, some of the puzzles seem to have multiple things that might work, and falling and having to start over gets old quickly. If you really like casual puzzle games, then this might be worth it at 75% off or more, but for most people, I'd suggest moving on to a different game.
Fun little Puzzle game
Short game (around 2 hours) that iterates around the simple base concept of a labyrinth made up of platforms that you have to traverse for each level. The different puzzle mechanic are introduced quickly and culminate in the last handful of puzzles. Nothing crazy but a good way to spend 10-20 minutes between other things. The story is pointless and barely there but carries a nice mood. Worth when on sale or when you in the mood for something a bit different.
gg very hard game
