Played On: HTC Vive
Roller coaster games were one of the earliest concepts when virtual reality started to trickle onto the mainstream market. Now that we're entering a more advanced era of the technology, these coaster games are becoming more obsolete and much less impressive over time. Most of them only cost a couple of dollars, or about $0.60 CAD on sale, and they generally only last 3-5 minutes tops. Dream Coaster VR happened to come in to existence during the "obsolete" and "less impressive over time" era of VR gaming. With that said, you would think that it would've tried harder to introduce a more outstanding environment to take place in. The coaster goes through all sorts of fantasy lands, which in themselves aren't too bad but we've already seen most of this in the Rift Coaster title; both of which were developed by VR Visio. However, this is the blurriest roller coaster ride that I've ever taken. If you look anywhere but straight ahead, you'll see nothing but a blurry mess rushing by you. Despite optimization fixes, on a GTX 1080 the game still manages to stutter in areas, and for some reason the game casts a horrible glare on the lenses. I'm not one to bash coaster games in general, but there are far better ones out there; ones that display much higher innovation, rather than leeching off of their own predecessor. It's true that you get what you pay for, but you might as well pass on this one. Sound effects of the cart on the rail is bad, a lot of stuttering (even with the minimum graphics) with the 1080Ti and Htc Vive. My system: Vr: HTC Vive Processor: 3930k, 32G Gpu: 1080Ti, Driver:382.33 Win: 10
Valve Index
Got it very cheap in a bundle. I pretty much enjoyed the short 5 minutes run with the rollercoaster. Great music and nice graphics. Try it out. Recommended if you get it in a bundle.
Arcade owner here. Running on GTX1080. I got a bit motion sick. Felt like the frame rates are low. It does seem to pause for fraction of a second sometimes too. Has potential but these issues need to be addressed. On the upside though... when looking around it seems the issues from previous comments have been fixed with the updates.
This is one of my favorite VR roller coasters. The fantasy surroundings are neat, and makes it stand apart from more realistic (less imaginative) VR coasters. I’m also generally a fan of fantasy like this, so maybe it just fits my interests really well. It’s a short experience, but long enough for being a coaster. Good for demoing VR, and kids seem to really enjoy it too. Thumbs: UP!
I'd like to start off saying it's absolutely PATHETIC that the dev doesn't have a simple "recenter button" on the controller (used with Vive Pro and Vive wands). Unlike the devs other coaster game, Rift Coaster HD (DO NOT BUY RIFT COASTER, IT DOES NOT WORK), this game at least mostly works. It also is one of the few VR experiences I've ever had that I feel nauseated after. And to be honest, it's not even that great of an experience. There aren't any settings. Just sit and stare at the screen until it starts moving. Absolutely the bare-bones minimum VR experience. I recommend avoiding this. I got this for $0.50 USD in a bundle and STILL don't recommend it at THAT price. Also want to point out it did have some hiccups performance-wise on a 1080ti | 7700k | 32GB system with a Vive Pro. It wasn't CONSTANT stuttering, but it did happen in a few places.
